"I wanted to correct what others have written, The new ps3 do not play ps2 games--this is why the price on ps3 has come down so much from when it came out. The 1st ps3 did play ps2 games but the console that have came out in past 1 1/2 yrs do not. So you must have a ps2 to play ps2 games"

What's great about it: Lives for a long time
What's not so great: Not many new games
"This console has been loyal to my family for a long time. Not once has it ever let us down throughout these years. It has provided for us hours of laughter and family fun time. But sadly, there are not that many new PS2 games anymore. They only make PS3 games. I would not recommend this console to anyone because of the small number of games. If you want to play a PS2 game, buy the PS3. It lets you play PS2 and PS2 games, and it plays Blu-ray discs. Though we have had many great memories with the PS2, it is starting to become old."

Great Console

What's great about it: The new price $99
What's not so great: Good games are slowly coming to a hault
"5 or so years ago the system would of been the best system to buy. I love the playstation 2. Its easy to transport, I play it on the road with a portable tv and never skips when going down bummpy roads. The console looks really good when you hook it up to a HDTV with the high def cables. Movies and music work good on the console as the same with the games."

"I had my playstation for 9 years and i love it. You can watch movies thats really nice. Plus they keep on making games for it instead of the xbox and the gamecube they dont make games any more so its really nice to have newer games on it."

What's great about it: Small, easy to set up, tons and tons of games, good controller design
What's not so great: No wireless networking support
"The playstation2 is one of the better systems available today. the graphics are decent, the PlayStation itself is quite small so if you don't have much space left in you TV stand this is a big plus, there literally thousands of games out there for it, the controllers are nicely designed and comfortable, and the costumer service support is awesome! The only downside i can think of for the ps2 is that it doesn't support wireless networking. currently the ps2 has no built in wireless adapter and just pluging a usb wireless adapter in one of the usb ports will not work. So basically unless your very close to you cable or dsl modem you cannot play online games.but overall this is a solid enduring system that is perfect for the recreational gamer."

"I bought one of the old PS2 systems when it came out and it worked very well. It was my DVD player as well as my video game console. When I went on vacation I accidentally left it on and it fried. After five good years of service, it finally died.
I had to buy a replacement and so I bought the slimmer version. It works just as well as the other one did and takes up a lot less space on my TV stand. It plays all my games and my DVDs, so I am very satisfied with this Sony product.
I refuse to buy a PlayStation 3 just because I refuse to spend a great wad of cash for a video game console. And with the new Black and White PS3 systems that are being released in November which do not feature PlayStation 2 compatibility, I don't see why I should buy a PS3 right now when it means I'd have to keep my PlayStation 2 just to play my PS2 games is pointless.
If you're looking for a good game system for a low price, buy the PlayStation 2, it's very good for games and DVDs, especially since WII doesn't play DVDs."

What's great about it: Huge game catalog, Backwords compatable with PS1, New Slim Design
What's not so great: No on/off switch to remove from stand-by you must unplug system
"I am a huge Xbox Fan and have both the 360 and The original but i still truly prefer the Playstation 2 for all my single player games. The amount of quality games that came out for this system is staggering.
I just wish that they could have delivered more from the Playstation 3."

"The ps2 console is a great console which can play all the classic and new ps2 games that are out there. For $99.99 this system is definitely worth buying if you still want to play ps2 games. This system is the slimmer version of the original ps2, which I kind of prefer the original design over the new design but it will save a lot more space. The only downfall on the ps2 is that you still need to use memory cards to save the game data. But overall it is still a great system that can be used to play games at a good price."

What's not so great: buying seperate memory card is a bit annoying if you are used to hard drives now
"out of all the consoles i have had, the playstation 2 has the most games that i enjoy, and they are still making games for ps2. if you are big into rpg games the playstation 2 is the only way to go at this time until playstation 3 gets a more established base set on the market, and if xbox 360 follows in the origional xbox's steps it will be seriously lacking rpg games. i am a big RPG fan, and now that the ps2 has been out for a while all the games are cheap and some come in sets (like GTA and call of duty among others).
the system has always been reliable and i have had a ps2 for a long time. i have never had any problems that the newer consoles have had. great purchase, reliable hardware, alot of games to choose from and most are $20 or less. what more could you ask for from a system. great value at $99."

"The Sony PS2 is a classic gaming console. Although the graphics are dated when compared to a PS3 and Xbox 360, they are still good enough to enjoy playing. The price just dropped to $99, which makes it an even better value. You won't get the BlueRay or HDMI hookups, but for what its used for you can't go wrong."

"Before i purchased the PS2 I had the nintendo 64. It was definitely a leap in technology. I had anticipated purchasing this game after see one of the most famous games on the PS2 Grand Theft Auto III. There was many others that follow. Now still popular with a library of over a 1,000 games. The combo of have the dvd player and the game is awesome. It came out during the time of popularity of the dvd. The graphics was like no other system. The XBOX came out and failed in comparision and so did the Nintendo Gamecube. I can see ten years from now the PS2 will be a collector's item. The only problem i had was the disk read error. It use to drive me nuts. Besides that it was the best decision I made until the PS3."

"I got a PS2 a few years ago and I have never wanted an XBOX or a Nintendo because the PS2 has more game titles to choose from and PS2 games are still being made while production on XBOX and Nintendo games stopped about 2 years ago. The games have some really nice graphics and the PS2 doubles as a DVD player and a CD player. Worth the money."

"This is a great system for the time when the XBOX and this system came out, but now that the XBOX 360 & the PS3 are out this game doesn't have much to offer anymore. If you were looking to buy a new console I would either recommend this one or the XBOX 360... This console still has games coming out for it like Rock Band 1&2, Guitar Hero 3&4, but they're not all that great because the lack of online play and downloadable content. Again, great for its time, but that time is almost up."
