What a Great Washer!   08/19/2007
By SMCMS from Maynard, Mass

"What a great washer! I purchased this washer because I didn't need a stacking set and LG brand was the only way to go. After reading the consistently really good and really bad reviews on all of the other major front-load brands, LG only ever had really great reviews. I love the large capacity (23 Lbs dry) and how quiet it is. My cat even sits on top and leans over the edge to watch it wash when it's on and he's scared of every noise! The sanitize cycle is great that heats the water to 165 degrees and the control panel is very easy to use to select what temperature, wash cycle and options you want. LG thought of everything with this washer, even the beep to signal the end is nice and not annoying. We did spend about 30 min leveling the washer when we first installed it and I think this is important; we don’t get any vibration when it’s on, even during the spin cycle. I would definitely purchase this washer again."

What's great about it: It looks very nice
What's not so great: less than great performance.

"The fun thing is reading the reviews from people who just got delivered and completed maybe 1 or 2 load. We've had ours for a year and today I went an bought a top loader as a replacement. It works fine, but I am fed up with it. When you put performance last and water saving and energy saving first, you end up with clothes that could be a lot cleaner and a washer that doesn't live up to the hype. To watch it work is almost laughable, except you own it, so it's not so funny. It turns slowly and these "powerful" jets we were to believe wash the clothes really just a light spray and it most of the time it is just turning slowly. No agitator, just clothes rolling around wet at a slow turning pace. It's basically like putting your clothes in a barrel and adding the special little soap, then mist them with your garden hose off and on while you friend rolls the barrrel down the drive way. That's how these clean. Impressed? We weren't and we had to buy a new washer and moth ball our $900 washer perfectly good working 1 yr old LG Front loader. It does dry the clothes amazingly well with the spin cycle and that is of course to save energy with the matching dryer that I could tell you doesn't impress us, too. If you want to save water and energy, get this washer. If you want clean clothes, then pass on this washer."

What's great about it: It washes
What's not so great: read below

"I bought this washing machine about 3 years ago....it has been great. Well lately I have noticed the mold/mildew smell...i have always left the door open after every wash...still stinks!! I have washed the inside of the machine itself, using cleaners, but still smells. Now...maybe about 2 weeks ago...the washing machine won't power on...I have to unplug it then plug it back in and it will work....i am trying to find out what the problem is, but haven't yet."

What's great about it: Ease of installation; excellent wash results; uses almost no water.
What's not so great: Nothing.

"I'd read horror stories on the installation process, but it was the same as any washer, top-load or front-load. The cycles seemed long at first, until I discovered the "Quick Wash" button. Our clothes are seldom really dirty so the need for a full-length cycle is rare. And everything feels so much cleaner than with the old top-loader from Sears... not to mention the towels and jeans are no longer "drippy" when taken out. And I've never heard a more quiet machine. And being that I'm on a private septic system, the reduction in water use has huge positive implications."

overall dissapointing   12/29/2009
By sarahbeansmommy from Nc, PA

What's great about it: Sanitary cycle, less water used
What's not so great: 1yr warranty, leaky, smelly, uses more electric, takes forever to wash

"We purched this washer and the matching dryer almost three years ago when bought a new house. At first it was great, we had a new born and the sanitary cycle worked wonders on that spit up smell. But in the last few months we've noticed the drum filling with water when the washer wasnt used for a day or so. This causes a musty, mold smell if you leave clothes in there over night or even if you put them in in the morning and take them out after work. We called customer service and basically they said that they couldnt help us because the warranty was waaay up. It was only a 1yr warranty. It still runs and washes the clothes but for what we paid we could have had something that would last longer and be of better quality than this. Its advertised as being energy efficient but what you "might" save in water your making up for in electricity. A load that would take 35 mins in my moms kenmore takes 56 in ours. Overall it was very dissapointing. Just a side note. When we bought this and the dryer we also bought our kitchen appliances. None of which we would puchase again. Except maybe the Fridge."

What's great about it: Load many clothes, comforters
What's not so great: Spin is loud, water pump is loud, spin cycle gets errors when clothes are uneven

"This was the bomb washer for some years. Then we started noticing the uneven leveling due to the spin cycle. the washer spin cycle is loud but the speed of the spin, throws off the leveling and then you get errors. The front door is sometimes hard to open. After 6 years, washer totally shut down. No lights on the console, no reset. Stuck with getting a repair guy out. I guess all in all, it's not bad since I got 6 years out of it."

What's great about it: Performance, Durability and Quality

"I have had this set for a little over a year. They replaced a Kenmore set that took entirely too long to dry clothes and used way too much water. Laundry room is right off of my Family Room and is a lot quieter than the previous set. It's a washer and dryer, what do you expect. No, you can't put in your bedroom and go to sleep, that is not the intent of doing laundry. If you want quiet. Than don't run it, any of them. period.

Great features, the best is the sanitize cycle and the delay start. I will often set the washer before bed and have it run it complete it's cycle before I wake up in the morning so that the clothes are not sitting in the washer wet, therefore, all I have to do it put them in the dryer.

Hardest part is getting used to the small amount of detergent to use ( Tide HE works best ) and the little amount of water it consumes. I have recommended this product to friends of mine who have actually purchased the same. Friends were impressed by the performance and how fast it spins to remove most of the water from clothes to have less drying time.

I have had friends ask me if they can bring over their King Size down comforters to wash because this machines does such a great job on large items.

What's great about it: Energy efficient, easy control panel, big capacity and contemporary design
What's not so great: Noise, noise and more noise.

"Bought new 4 months ago. The washer handles large loads with ease. Control panel is user friendly. You can customize a cycle that's not on the control panel. If your laundry area is where others will see, the contemporary design is appealing.
NOISE is my big complaint. 'Quiet Operation', not so much. You hear every snap, button, rivet and zipper bang on the stainless steel drum. Turning jeans, pants inside out, buttoned and zipped does help, but not much. A load of towels once wet you can hear flopping and churning many rooms away. The water pump is also very loud while draining at the beginning of the spin cycle. There's nothing quiet about this washer. Except it's somewhat quiet once the washer is only spinning.

What's great about it: appearance
What's not so great: Does not clean clothes

"This product does not deserve one star!

I purchased this model LG washer just over a year ago. Because of an illness in the family I left home 1 month following the purchase of this machine and retuned home 7 months later. After returning home, I noticed the clothes were not getting clean. I asked for repair and was referred to a service technician who referred me to LG as the machine was still under manufacturer’s warranty.

The LG authorized service technician, who came to my home, advised me that I was using too much laundry detergent. I was using the amount recommended by the HE laundry detergent package. I have felt the problem is that not enough water is dispensed into the machine and set about trying to prove this. Since I have a laundry sink right next to the machine. I collected water at precisely the same time water was being dispensed into the machine. After the entire load had run its course, the amount of water was just over 5 gallons. Even the LG help line advised me that the amount should be 12 to 15 gallons for the complete cycle.

Nevertheless, I have not been able to have the machine repaired to even to get anyone at LG to admit there is a problem. I have written to LG corporate Headquarters and not had a response.

If I had it to do over again, I would not buy this machine. After the lack of service on this machine, I will not buy any LG product.

What's not so great: mildew problem ruining towels

"I love how this front load washer spins so fast and gets the majority of the water out of the clothes, yet we are extremely disappointed with this unit and about to replace it after only 2 1/2 years. There is a terrible mildew odor that I cannot get out of the machine even after cleaning the rubber gasket around the door, cleaning with affresh tablets and draining water regularly from the drainage tube through the front access panel. I even try to leave the door open as much as possible to avoid trapping water in the machine but that is hard to do with a front load as an open door gets in the way when you walk by. Also, there is a random, small leak in the front center of the machine that our servicemen could not fix."

What's great about it: Great price! Easy to use!
What's not so great: none that I can find

"I have been using this washer for 2 weeks now. I installed them myself. Make sure you place the unit on a hard floor. I installed mine on carpet, and while the unit was level, it would shake. I removed the carpet and placed it on the concrete, leveled and it works perfect. It has many settings to choose from and i like the sanitary cycle. I wash all my work clothes using that setting. This unit is very easy to use and our kids do their own laundry with it."

What's great about it: Very quiet.
What's not so great: Having to wipe dry the door seal.

"After tons of research and reading many reviews, LG always came up with the best washers. We've had our washer in use for about 2 months now and absolutely no problems. The washer is extremely quite and does a great job cleaning clothes. There are a tons of options from a quick wash to a long, deep clean wash. The controls on the top panel are the perfect height and eliminate the need for pedalstals. I installed the washer and had no problems leveling on a cement floor. The only annoyance (as with any front loader) is having to wipe the door seal dry after the last load of the day."

What's great about it: Tub size, ease of use, clean clothes
What's not so great: Doesn't remember previous cycle setting unless saved as custom

"Not only is this washer more energy and water efficient (tier 3 on the energy-star scale) than our old Neptune , the tub is much larger and has cut by 1/3 the number of loads we (my sons are all laundry trained!) have to wash. I also purchased the matching dryer and between the two (especially in drying) have cut our laundry time down from 3-4 hours a load start to finsh down to under 2. I highly recommend this washer (and dryer). Also, the little tunes they play at power on/off and cycle-end make me smile every time I hear them."

What's great about it: when it it works it works good
What's not so great: lousy service, kepps giving LE code

"had this machine for 2 years. LG replaced the first one free of charge due to LE code, was unrepairable. 11 months and 20 days into second machine and LE code again. Now LG says since they replaced the first one there is no warranty, and yes I bought the extended warranty but LG says read the fine print, the extended warranty is voided because they replaced the machine. Iwould never buy another LG again. If you are still considering this washer, just google it and read all the other horror stories."

What's great about it: Gobbles up huge amounts of clothes and gets them all clean. Easy to use.
What's not so great: No excuses not to do laundry anymore.

"If you have a lot of clothes every week to wash and just want to get them clean with a minimum of fuss, then this machine is for you. I've owned this washer for six months now and it still amazes me. I throw in huge amounts of dirty clothes, pour in some detergent and softener, and a little while later I have clean, nearly dry clothes. What more could you want from a washing machine?

One note though: You MUST use the HE detergent. That's not a option. Regular soap requires lots of water to wash, and especially rinse, your clothes. If you use regular detergent in this machine your clothes will not come out clean and will still have soap in them. People that have this problem always blame the machine when it is really their fault for using the wrong detergent.

What's great about it: Uses less water
What's not so great: Breaks Down, Smells

"We bought this LG washer in 2005. In fall of 2007, one of the electronic sensors broke and we had it repaired. In January 2009 the motor went. The motor is under warranty for seven years, but we still had to pay for the repair labor. It has been very disappointing to pay so much for a machine that has had to be repaired twice in three years! We have also had the bad odor issue mentioned by other reviewers. I run a sanitary wash w/bleach once a week and that helps --I will try leaving the door open as others have mentioned. I would not recommend this machine to anyone and I will never buy an LG product again!"

What's great about it: Frontloader, so uses less water, etc
What's not so great: Breaks down, smells

"The inside of this washer frequently smells.
I had this LG washer for 1 and 1/2 years before it broke down. I have had repairmen out 7 times and they have been unable to fix it. Because the parts have to be shipped, I have to wait a week or more between appointments. It has been 9 weeks now that they have been working on my machine. 9 weeks without a washing machine has caused havoc in a house with twin babies and a 3 year old. I called LG and there response was that they were sorry, but they only offer a 1 year warranty on their product. For a machine that cost me over $900 I expect it to work longer than a year and a half. We finally had enough and went out and bought a new washing machine. My 1 1/2 year old LG washer is going to the dump. Lesson learned...I will never buy any LG product.
