What's great about it: Looks good and has a traditional shape, which is great for the "little fingers" that like to push buttons.
What's not so great: Breaks down easy, not worth the money to buy and repair
"After about 4 months it broke down 2 different times. It cost us $300 to get it fixed, but the part only cost us $20. There is only one place in our town authorized to work on LG appliances. He came and looked at it for about 10 minutes and told me he didn't know how to fix it..."That will be $80.00". Make sure there is a few places in your town that are authorized to work on LG appliances. Also didn't know that when you start the cycle and realize that you forgot a sock it's too late. You have to wait for another load because it locks so the water won't spill out."

Best Brand Washer

What's great about it: A high quality washer that gives you everything and more. Easy to set up & use. Is very quiet when leveled properly.
What's not so great: A few of the wash cycles are long, but you can choose different cycles or program your own.
"This washer is a replacement for our Neptune Maytag washer that we purchased in 2001. When the repair man told us it was going to cost over $800 to repl. the tub bearing, we decided to purchase the lg washer to match our dryer. I was concerned about some of the reviews I read, but still decided to take a chance. I am so happy I did. This washer is much quieter than the Neptune was and the clothes come out really clean. I like the custom programming feature and the delay feature. The spin cycle is excellent. The clothes are almost dry when they come out of the washer. Also, LG has an excellent customer service avail. 24-7. I had inquiries and was able to get the information I needed. I am very happy with LG."

What's great about it: large tub
What's not so great: noisy pump, no memory
"nice large tub, spin quietly. but noisy pump when drains, and it goes on a lot. unlike the old American made push button models, has to click a few times to get it ready to use every time."

What's great about it: controls are out of my 2 year old's reach!
What's not so great: nothing--but always leave the door open to dry it out after using it--like any front loader
"I love this washer! I really wanted a front-loader, but was concerned that my pre-schooler would be "washing" everything. Having the control panel at the back like a traditional washer sold me on this model. Wash cycles are long, but my clothes are half dry when they come out."

Great Washer!

What's great about it: Sooo much room inside, great sanitary cycle
What's not so great: end of cycle signal is hard to hear from a floor away
"Got this unit 2 years ago after the last top loader died. So far the only thing that I would say is bad might have been my fault, machine wouldn't drain and I found a wood chip clogged it. Since LG has a service panel in the front, I was able to easily drain out the bowl and fix it without a call to Best Buy Service. I've purposely overloaded the machine to see what its capable of - can't seem to even throw this thing off. I can do a whole waist height hamper of towels in one shot. The sanitary cycle removes that moldy smell from towels and deodorant stains from shirts. Very, Very happy!!!"

What's great about it: You can decide how long the load will wash.
What's not so great: None
"I read some of the reviews on here and I wanted to tell the people who said the wash cycles were to long that you can do a "quick cycle" or a speed wash and you can adjust the time by choosing the soil level. If you think 50 min is to long for a wash - just do the above. Read the directions that came with the machine. Also you can delay wash up to 12 hours - again you have to read how to do it in the manual. I use the shorter cycles and my clothes come out clean and ready for a short spin in my matching dryer. I love this machine - I hope the others read my input on how to set a shorter wash time."

I love doing laundry now

What's great about it: Saves electricity/water, decreases drying time, gets clothes CLEAN, HUGE capacity
What's not so great: Inexpensive faulty part, long washing cycles
"I love my LG! It's amazing. I've had it for over 2 years now and it's my favorite appliance. I immediately noticed my water bill was cut almost in half and drying time is almost nothing. Wrinkling isn't much of a problem eitehr. I did recently have to replace a part but it only cost $28 w/ shipping and I replaced it myself in about 30 minutes (a small plastic panel that sits on the motor.) From what I have read this isn't uncommon for this brand, but it was really a breeze to replace, and I'm a petite lady, so I don't mind so much! I've never had any issues with odor as I keep the door ajar between washings. You can NOT keep the door shut between loads as a vaccuum seal is maintained and mildew will form since the moisture can not evaporate. If you don't like this aspect then stick with a top loader because this is inherent in any front loading washer. You will also want to drain the filter once a month or so to make sure there is nothing holding moisture in the lower part of the machine as well. Finally, the capacity is awesome! We are a family of 5 (3 of which are teenagers) so when I do laundry on Thursdays, I have to stuff it FULL! It gets everything clean and there is no issues with excessive wrinkling as I've read about with some other brands because after the final spin cycle it 'fluffs' the clothes up a bit before you put them in the dryer which pulls a lot of the wrinkles out. LG is the Lexus of washing machines! I love it."

What's great about it: Very easy to operate, cleans clothes perfectly!
What's not so great: None
"We bought this washer 6 months ago after the washer we had for 14 years finally gave out. I was very leary to buy a front loader as I have never owned one. I was told that once you start the cycle you cannot add more clothes. This is not true. This washer uses very little water and when you hit the pause button, it will unlock and you can easily add a missing sock or two. It spins the clothes almost dry making drying time quicker, a plus! It also holds a VERY large load of clothes. As the other review mentioned about the off balance problem...that has only happend once when I put a large load of towels and a bathroom rug in. It was an obvious overload on my part. Very nice job for a great price. High consumer report ratings as well!"

What's great about it: Saves Money Every Month
What's not so great: none
"We bought this washer and dryer set in April...and we saved $14 off the electric bill the first month...and $32 off the water bill in three months! This is the best purchase we have ever made. Being able to put so much more clothes in the washer is such a convience. This washer is so smart it decides how much water to use, how hard to spin it...and water temperature. All you have to do is tell it what you are washing. The first day we washed 36 t-shirts, 20 pairs of socks and 3 sweatshirts...all in one load!!! Best part has to be washing the blankets!! All the winter blankets and comforters done in an afternoon with the handy "comforter" setting! This washer spins the clothes so hard that they dry in half the time that they used to...not to mention they are so much cleaner than before! I absolutely recommend this washer.....you will not be sorry!! P.S....don't forget to get the matching dryer!!"

What's great about it: saves on water & Sanitary cycle
What's not so great: moldy smell on clothes & consistant inbalance problems
"I loved this washer at 1st! Great thing is we didn't have to stack the front loader washer & dryer (although an optionfor someone with small spaces). I love the sanitary option (great on towels, pillows, sheets and bleach white clothes-especially with kids). However, after a year; we started having inbalance/error message (on screen) problems with every load and it happens at the 32 minute mark and the 19 minute mark every time (change in wash cycle). The good thing is the washer has a specific sound when it stops due to an error-so you can go & check on it. However, when you restart it again & keep having to restart it and it's still on the 32 minute mark-it's frustrating! It will take 3-5 hours just to do 1 load. We have tried with all types of loads (small, medium and large) and it doesnt matter-it keeps happening with EVERY LOAD. Also, to wash clothes overnight, when you get the clothes out the next morning they smell mildewey. So then you need to rewash them again to get the smell out."

GREAT! Love My Washer

What's great about it: Large Loads of clothes, Less wear clothes
"I have bought my LG January of 2007. I LOVE IT!!!! Our old washer finally had all it could take. I shopped around and read all the reviews. The consumer magazine gave this washer great reviews. I am a mother with a very active family. So to say we have laundry is really a understatement to say the least. It is great with the amont I can wash at a time. I feel the clothes get clean and smell great. The way this LG washes the clothes I believe it has saved on wear and tear on the clothes. It washes King size blankets and comforter with no problem. It saves me time. I love the santization cycle for the winter flu months to make sure everything is extra clean. It does take a little longer but it is worth it. My water bill has gone done since I bought my washer. Just out of habit I never close the door on the washer. After I am done with the laundry I leave it open to dry out. I have never got a weird smell or anything. I could see if you don't you use it everyday and leave it closed up how you could get that. But that is with anything wet you leave closed up. So if you are on the fence about buying this washer I have nothing bad to say about it. I love it and use it everyday. It was well worth every penny I paid for it."

What's great about it: deep cleans and saves on laundry products
"We bought this washer after much research and decided this was the one for us and we are very happy with it. It does a great job getting clothes clean and it runs so quiet you hardly know it is on. I love the easy to use controls and the fact that I have it on the pedestal which makes so much easier to get the clothes out and into the dryer. I feel we made a very good decision to buy this one."

Great Machine
04/30/2008
By MiketheEngineer

What's great about it: Cleans well, quiet, solid machine, nice options
What's not so great: Price,
"I had this washer and matching Dryer for several months now and it has worked flawless load after load. I replaced an Sears Calypso that died after 7 years and all sear had to say was it was a junk from the start. (Along story which I'm sure you can all relate to) This is the first front loader I have owned as well as a LG model. I choose this model because it is the same depth as an top loader and tradition front loaders are deeper then normal. I had a depth issue in the laundry room that this fixed with room to spare. The washer cleans clothes better then the top loader I had. You can really see this in the white clothes in fact just washing the whites over from the old washer it was immediately noticable. Sears always blamed it on the well water I have but in this case I have the same water (which I think is good) different machine and the clothes are cleaner, whats that tell you? Some have complain of smells or odors but I have not had any issue. I leave the door open for a few hours after the last load and that seems to dry up any moisture in the washer. Also some reviews complain that the washer is noisy or shakes the house I have not seen this either the unit is well balance on a solid floor. On very large loads on the highest spin level I can feel a very slight vibration but nothing that rocks the house as others claim. I have also tried installing a thick stall mat under the unit which totally makes it eliminates any vibe even at the highest spin rate. But we have to remember these front loaders spin 2x the speed of older washers, so some noise should not be a suprize. The matching dryer works just as well and no complants. The price is high for these units but so is every thing else these days. If this washer and dryer last 10-15 years and works the way it is now it will be money well spent! Good Job LG!"

Moldy Smell
04/28/2008

What's great about it: Spins Clothes Nearly Dry, Uses Very Little Water
What's not so great: Clothes Smell Moldy!
"At first I LOVED this washer .... about the same capacity as our top loader, but it really washed well (even packed loads), washed quickly, and spun clothes so fast they were almost dry (so they always came out of the dryer dry on the first time in less than an hour). Despite the hi-spin cycle, it was also sooooo quiet ...... we couldn't wait to get one of these and it really did cut our loads down substantially each week (we have 3 kids). The honeymoon appears to be wearing off now though ..... you can NOT leave clothes in overnight or they smell moldy. This is well documented on the internet and for many, the problem occurs far more often (I always crack the door when it I am finished ... maybe that's why my problems have not been so severe). Go ahead and google it yourself (look for stuff like LG FRONT LOAD MOLD PROBLEMS MILDEW .....). This appears to be a common problem for LG Front Loaders, not just this model. Tonite, I just took a load out and there was a rubber dust all over the clothes .... something must have gotten wedged between the soft rubber that seals the door and the drum during the hi-spin and then friction must have created that mess ..... I am re-washing the stuff now and hope it comes out, but now I have to stay up and get the load to the dryer if it worked (remember, you can't throw something in before bed and then throw it in the dryer tomorrow morning). I hope I am wrong, but I am worried I just bought an $800 headache (that we can not afford to replace!). I will really be pi$$ed if my suspicions come true and LG and/or Best Buy does not stand behind this thing. In which case my 2-star rating would certainly be cut to far below 0. GOOGLE THESE PROBLEMS BEFORE YOU BUY AND BE PREPARED TO CLEAN YOUR WASHER WEEKLY TO TRY TO PREVENT THEM (although many say that it simply doesn't matter and even bleach does not help). If other washers do not have this scare, why would you even risk it."

What's not so great: does not clean great
"It takes pet hair and ROLLS it into little balls and STICKS it to everything else in the washer. where an agitator would remove the pet hair and spin it away in the water. LG was not helpful at all when I wrote to them they offered no solutution at all. I wonder if that is how they handle all problems. and it leaks."

What's not so great: Non so far
"As a family of 6, and not needing a stackable set, we bought this and it's WONDERFUL. Our clothes comes out smelling just as clean as it looks, no matter how dirty.
I ALWAYS use just cold water to save some cost and even with that, the clothes come out spotless.
It's a GREAT deal for everything, cost, size, effeciancy. You get all the features of a stackable plus more...#1 being the spin RPM...1300, WOW! Why pay over 1000 for less when you can pay well under for more. I HIGHLY recommend this washer to small and large families alike."

Best Washer I've ever used!!!

What's great about it: Quiet, lots of space, efficient, stylish
What's not so great: Some long wash cycles, MUST use HE detergent
"This washer is fantastic! It holds more laundry than any of the top loaders I have ever used, and gets the clothes cleaner. Less water is used, which helps the water bill every month... my only drawback is that you MUST use HE detergent. These are limited at this time, because of the relatively new nature of HE washers. I wanted to get the Arm and Hammer HE detergent, but I can't find it anywhere around San Antonio. I'm still looking, though. It's heavier than the top loaders, so you REALLY should have more than one person to move it, where I have moved top loading washers by myself before. I only got it a week or so ago, so I haven't really gotten to test all the pros of this washer. Of course the only con I can see is the HE detergents are not as available as regular detergents."

What's great about it: very good washing
What's not so great: extremly noisy, shakes the house
"This product although cleans garments well cannot be on a second floor laundry room. I have owned the washer and dryer for a couple of years now, and have tried everything I could think of to get the washer, while spinning, to not shake the house. I have leveled the unit every which way, tried rubber supports under the legs to help with the vibration. I have been told by a sales associate this isn't a good unit for a second floor laundry room. If your going to have it on the main floor of the house or in the basement then I hear it is much quieter. The unit itself has shaken so much that it makes rattling noises and sounds as though parts are loose."
