What's great about it: easy to set up; vast improvement over native tv speakers on brand new samsung 46" lcd
What's not so great: not great bass but knew thst going in
I disagree with all of the horrible reviews the cinemate has gotten.
These are marketed as enhancement for native tv speakers and that's exactly what they do...put these in my bedroom with my b760 46" samsung lcd and the difference from the tv speakers is major...nice clean sound; wall mounted the speakers and had electrician run wires behind wall and system looks great...if you're looking for booming bass or 5.1 sound then avoid this at all costs, but if you're looking for a vast improvement over your tv's speakers and a nice clean looking system then i give this 2 thumbs up.....just my 2 cents.

What's great about it: ease to set up
What's not so great: The sound is not that great--mediocre at best
I too was taken by the Bose reputation, but this product does not deliver the quality sound you would expect from a Bose product. At first I thought the speakers outside color were faded at the store, but apparently that is the standard color.
As we speak I am wrapping the unit up for a full refund.

What's great about it: Easy to Set Up
What's not so great: lack of controls for sound quality
Basically this system is just to make your TV sound better. Good for watching DVDs or to make TV sound better. Not good for listening to music CDs on. You can not adjust the sound settings it is preset by factory. For the price you can get a better system. WAY OVERPRICED FOR WHAT IT DELIVERS. WOULD BE OK IF THE PRICE WAS $249 MAX!!!

For the price I could get a better deal, other brands offer the same or better sound quality for a cheaper or fair price,I tried it and is good for watching movies, but when I played music, I could tell it just was not what I had expected, otherwise is OK.

What's great about it: easy set up and clarity
What's not so great: no on screen menu, too basic, bass is very weak
My wife bought me this for my birthday. I was so excited! BOSE IS THE BEST! Unfortunately Cinemate isnt. The only way to hear the bass is to have it cranked so loud you cant even think. I watched 2 movies with it. Everything but the bass was awesome. Hook up was a breeze and its VERY VERY clear and loud. If it wasnt for bass problem I would keep it. I also dont like not having a visual on the volume level and no adjustments. The universal remote only worked with my TV. I guess I will go with another Yamaha or something similar.

What's great about it: You get the best sound you can imagine from 3 speakers. (2 speakers, 1 sub) Watching movies, and sports is great.
What's not so great: No audio controls, I can't turn the bass up or down if I want to.
Overall this item is great. Only one bad thing to me and that is the bass controls. The reciever is perfect though and takes up no space at all. Love it, and recomend it to anyone that doesn't have a huge living room or whatever room. The sound bounces of the walls so great its like more speakers are behind you.

What's great about it: Simple Set Up & Bose Quality
What's not so great: Lack of Volume Display
After becomming obsessed with Pandora and deciding that I needed some sort of home theatre setup anyway, I decided to purchase Samsung's BD-2550P Blue Ray player, which includes Pandora and Netflix. But, apart from the speakers on my Samsung TV, I didn't have any sort of sound system. This set me looking for audio stuff. Wow. A plethora of options, many quite expensive. And, complicated setup and wiring, speakers all over the place. Yikes!
So, I was thrilled when I ran across this CineMate option. No need for a receiver or figuring out which thing connects through and to whatever else, a clean and uncomplicated look. And, I'm already used to Bose sound from using a Sound dock for my iPod, so I'd already stepped away from the very bass-heavy sound that I used to prefer! I wasn't thrilled to have to spend $ 500 for a speaker system, but didn't really want to give up the clarity and quality that I was used to either. Plus, I live in a smallish apartment and wouldn't be able to really utilize all of the features of a high powered sound system anyway. My neighbors might just take exception with a plaster blaster!
Connecting the CineMate was beyond easy. Pretty much, I was able to use the visual references provided by the quick start guide and had everything connected in short order. A bonus was not having to route the speaker cables through the tight confines of the entertainment armoire that houses the TV and Blue Ray. The only think that I needed to route through was the cord for the little interface unit for the remote control. Connecting sound cables from the interface unit to the back of the TV was easy. Sweet.
One glitch was when I first fired up the system and there was no sound. I checked all of the connections. Twice. Consulted the manual. Puzzled over what I might have done wrong. Then, it dawned on me. Turn... up... the... volume. Duh! How embarassing!
Placement of the components is something that I'm still playing around with a bit, as I'm definitely trying to avoid the cost of the $ 100 speaker stands. At one point, I'd located the Acoustimass Module around the other side of a large armchair, which sort of isolated the sound of the bass from that of the speakers. Not good. There was a distant bass rumble that didn't really go with the sound coming from the speakers, sort of as if a neighbor had cranked up their plaster blaster. Moving it closer to the speakers provided a much more integrated sound. Please note that moving the AM around can be rather daunting; that bad boy weighs a ton!
I've watched a couple of movies, including "The Dark Knight", and am really blown away with the sound. Amazing how Bose manages to simulate surround sound via two neat little unobtrusive speakers! Very realistic. The sound of barking dogs in the movie sent my dog into insantity zone looking for the other dogs.
Pandora sounds absolutely fabulous and definitely justifies this addition. I'm in heaven.
Lack of the ability to hook up other components, such as a CD player isn't an issue for me. Since getting the iPod, I haven't listened to a CD (except in the car) for years. I'm thinking that there is probably a way to connect the iPod via the Blue Ray player. Or, just access my iTunes via an HDMI connection between the laptop PC and iTunes. I need to explore this a bit more when (and if) I can tear myself away from Pandora.
I've yet to discover the upper ends of volume on this thing, as it is still Sunday morning and I'm trying not to bug my neighbors! This brings me to my one complaint about Cinemate. No volume display. This isn't a deal breaker, but it sure would be nice to have (I have the same complaint about the Sound dock also.)
Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase and would enthusiastically reommend it to others.

What's great about it: easy to set up..sounds not bad
What's not so great: No bass or treble controls...Needs an on/off switch kind of pricey for what u get
I think a remote control is not enough for this system to operate. Needs more bass but I live in an apartment so thats ok....just would PO the neighbors I guess. 500 is a bit steep but I have to say I am happy enough with the system. Buy a TV and get the 10% discount that u get with it.

What's great about it: Sounds crisp, gives you a little extra kick with decent bass.
What's not so great: Not a full blown home theater system, but its not suppose to be either!
Very good product for the price. If you have a small living room this should do the trick. I own a town house and cant go all out with a full system due to my neighbor being right next to me. I would recommend this to anyone in similar situations as it does provide a large improvement over your average TV speakers.

What's great about it: simplicity, crispness of sound
What's not so great: Lack of aux. connection,
I got these speakers to have good sound in my living room for TV and MP3. I tried sound bars, other 5.1 systems and was not satisfied with the quality of sound. Nevertheless, I always walked by the Bose stand and listened and was not fully persuaded because of the price. The price is completely worth it. I like to hear sound not blaring but enough to enjoy it. These speakers can play at low volumes and still perform great. Bass is just right not too much, and the remainder of the spectrum works just as well. I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for simplicity, and quality. The acustimass even has a pleasant smell to it.

What's great about it: Easy to set up with great sound clarity.
If you're looking for sound clarity this is a great system. The bass will not rock you out of a room (or get you kicked out of your apartment) but it is there. The sound not only fills the room that it's in but is also clear and full from a room away.
I was able to get the system to work with my HD DVR remote without issue.
If you're looking for the super low rumbling bass sounds this system is not for you. If you want a clear crisp sound that fills the entire room then this is worth the price!

What's great about it: Very good sound...great value
What's not so great: No complaints at all
I did not understand this system plugged into the TV audio out and that no receiver is needed. This is a great feature. Once I saw that, ... I bought the system to add "movie" sound to our new living room tv at a minimal cost. The set up is easy and painless. I was really happy from the moment I turned the system on. It is very good. Watching movies you get the sense of movement and rumble which is very much like our Bose 5.1 system in our large family room. It gets even better when you factor in the low cost and not having to run and hide wiring. The time most consuming thing is programing the Bose remote which was only a few minutes for the DVD player and TV.
After this purchase I would not consider the cheaper (sub $400) 5.1 systems. I like the Bose power and clarity.

What's great about it: Very small speakers
What's not so great: Can't run your stereo receiver to the speakers
My goal when buying speakers for my new Samsung 32" and Samsung Blu Ray was to NOT get 5.1. I simply couldn't run wires in my apartment and 5.1 is too loud for an apartment with hard wood floors. I bought this today and am really happy with the sound and the super small speakers. Only downside is not being able to run my receiver thru it so I can use the speakers for the radio and ipod. I figured out though i can just unplug the tv cables and plug in the stereo and it works, but that's kind of a hassle. Still worth it overall since I didn't have room for several huge speakers, and I don't need them.

What's great about it: Sound Quality, range of sound
What's not so great: Quite specific speaker/AM module placement/orientation instructions
This is a great sound system for limited budgets. Additionally, my TV speakers are in the back causing us to constantly change the volume during any show or movie. We now don't have that problem. I easily coded my cable remote to adjust the volume for the Cinemate instead of the TV. Fortunately, I was able to talk to an actual Bose employee prior to purchase and knew this was the best system for just trying to add quality sound. I've heard complaints about having bose specific wiring (as opposed to general speaker wiring), however, the Bose wiring is part of the Bose experience. Some complain about advanced options like equalizers, but that is what Bose Acoustimass Speaker Systems and Lifestyle series are for. Besides, I wouldn't change anything about the sound, and thus I don't require an equalizer or decoder. The specific placement instructions are that the speakers are supposed to be pointed forward (not angled), at least 3 feet apart, but not farther than 3 feet from the TV, and the Acoustimass module is supposed to be at least 3 feet from either speaker.

What's great about it: Great sound you wouldn't expect from speakers of this size
What's not so great: no EQ adjust available
We got these speakers for our livingroom set with the only intention of giving our TV a slight upgrade. We were really pleased with our purchase when we heard the amount of power these small speakers had. Definitely a great buy, you get the best sound technology in BOSE , but you don't have to spend near 2000 dollars for it. Of course those systems are better than this one, but at 1/4 of that price, you can't go wrong. Definitely would purchase again if i needed another.

What's great about it: sounds great, easy setup, no hassle
What's not so great: no adjustment
We bought this system to enhance the sound of our Samsung LN52A750. We did a lot of research and decided on this system. We didn't want to spend a huge amount of money but also didn't want a cheap system that would be almost pointless. We wanted something to add a GREAT sound to our great picture on our HDTV.
We are soooo happy with this system after about 3 months! It sounds great and is exactly what we need. We were a little worried about having to use the RCA jacks on our tv (vs hdmi or digital audio). But the BB salesman promised that this system was so much better then the other around 400-500 that were 5-1 systems. He said we wouldn't be sorry. He was right! The setup took only about 15 mins (and another 15 for the stands). That's alot better then the ones i read from the other guys that say it took hours and a ton of wires. If you are kinda like us, do yourself a favor and don't get caught on the watts, 5-1 and digital sound. This is the best in the category (even though its 2-1 and RCA) believe me!
The only other thing i would have to say is that it became a pain to use the Bose remote (or TV and Bose remote) to control things. We eventually broke down and bought a Logitech Harmony One universal remote. Check out that remote!! Now we have it all and are soooo happy with our system.

What's great about it: Great front speakers, easy to set up, OK for small room
What's not so great: Giant proprietary connectors, no controls, fixed cable lengths
My dissapointment began when unpacking and I saw the giant Bose propietary connectors and fixed cable lengths which absolutely restrict where and how you can run the wires. The connectors required huge
1 3/8" holes in the cabinet. This is consumer abuse to not allow normal speaker wires. When I powered up, I realized no control, no on screen display, nothing. NO treble, bass, balance adjustments, not even volume display. The Cinemate is specifically designed for small rooms where full 5:1 surrond systems would be too much. By definition, in a small room we expect limited speaker placement opportuitites, now further restricted by Bose proprietary cables, and limited seating options. One would absolutely expect adjustment controls to make the most of the actual installation. I regret not doing my homework, and making an impulse buy based on Bose reputation.
Won't happen again.
