What's great about it: bright clear screen; internet and e-mail via wi-fi, reasonable cost What's not so great: occasionally freezes up and needs to be reset (happened twice in 3 months and did not lose any data)
"I purchased the Palm T/X Handheld about 3 months ago. It was very easy to install the Palm software on my computer, and HotSync works fine. The screen is large and bright, and the menus are easy to navigate. I previously owned a Palm Zire and a IIIc. I use my Palm T/X at home and at work. I'm a physician and this device holds multiple textbooks as well as online programs that I use every day. Adding Pocket Tunes for about $20 turns the T/X into an MP3 player and a fair internet radio. All in all, you get a lot of bang for your buck with this device."

Problems with touch screen02/11/2008
By NursBeckfrom Kingston Springs, TN
What's great about it: Love the bright colors, and the amount of memory What's not so great: the touch screen is way too sensitive, and becomes misaligned many times
"All previous PDA's that I have had, I have used a screen protector for it, but this screen is too sensitive, and causes problems like being able to touch the right icon. Without the screen protector, it works much better but becomes misaligned easily, so you often have to push the reset button and realign the touchscreen. Too much trouble for $300, and makes it difficult to use the device to play games on."

Convenient, Complete Organizer Reasonably Priced01/07/2008

What's great about it: Internet / Email Through Wi-fi; Word, Ppt, Excel; Pocket Tunes; Big, Beautiful Screen; Organized Contacts / Schedule What's not so great: None with device!
"I purchased the Palm T/X Handheld about one month ago, on sale for only $200! (I got a great deal, to say the least.) Anyway, I have been very pleased with all of its features thus far. It was easy to install the Palm software on my HP computer, and HotSync (the program the syncs data on your computer and PDA--both ways!) works great! The screen is bright and pretty giant, and the menus are easy to navigate.
I use my Palm T/X multiple times daily, to make lists of work to do, Christmas shopping lists, to track expenses (and categorize 'em), plan my schedule, and store my contacts. One especially neat feature that I found you can set a reminder for the birthdays of your contacts--to be reminded X days or weeks in advance! The Blazer web browser has worked great for me. It's fast, displays completely and well, and truthfully has few limitations. I've had no trouble connecting to my home Wi-fi network nor restaurant / public hotspots (Starbucks! :) )
The one and only point I'd like to note is the PocketTunes MP3 player. I had trouble figuring out why I couldn't bring up that program on my computer. After hours of surfing the web, I found that it is ONLY programmed on the T/X device, and cannot be put on the computer. Evidently, all you've got to do is download your music directly to the device during HotSync (but know that a Palm expansion card may be necessary for this).
All in all, I've found this to be a great device. It makes me feel all organized and prepared! I would absolutely recommend this to anyone--a first-time PDA user, someone who's going to replace an old device, anyone in the workforce at any level, and students. Good luck!"

DO NOT PURCHASE!01/03/2008

What's great about it: Worked great for one year. What's not so great: Digitizer begins to stray after the one-year warranty expired
"I have owned Palm PDAs for the past six years, but I will NEVER purchase another Palm product again. My T/X is less than two years old and due to digitizer stray, it is completely useless and conveniently out of warranty. It would cost me at least $129 to have it repaired through Palm, so I'm simply going to throw it in the trash and purchase a higher quality device from a different manufacturer.
When I attempt to write a letter on the screen I will usually not get the letter I was trying to write. This is extremely frustrating and renders the product completely useless. This problem began to surface a few months ago, shortly after the one-year warranty expired. The same thing happens when I attempt to use the keyboard instead of the Graffiti and also when I attempt to tap on an icon. Like Forrest Gump said, "You just never know what you're going to get." I have tried resetting the device countless times to no avail. I also downloaded an application called DigiFix, which is supposed to correct the problem (which is also very common to most Palm products), also to no avail.
This device has turned into a $300 calculator which doesn't even retain the last value when it turns off. My advice to anyone considering purchasing one of these pieces of garbage: STAY AWAY!"

What's great about it: Slim, Has alot of features What's not so great: Ther really aren't any cons.
"I gave this orginizer to my mom fo her birthday and she love it. It really keeps you orginized on a tight schedule. She loves how she can connect it to her phone and how she can check the web when she is not home, if she has a wi-fi connection- like in Starbuck's. I would definetly recommend this to a friend."

What's great about it: Easy to use right out of the box. What's not so great: The cord for hot synching can be tricky to get in and out. However, you get used to it.
"This is an excellent product for the price. I happened to have bought it when it was on sale which made it an even greater value. I did have a little difficultity setting it up due to the fact that I am using windows vista. If you use vista don't load the software that comes with the TX. It is not compatable with vista. Instead just download the windows desktop beta 6.2. software at www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/windesk62.html. I was also getting an error msg. so I searched Palms help forum with the error # and found what I needed to do. Once I did this everything went smooth. You can find an answer for most problems on palms site. I also use office 2007 and had to purchase the newest version of Documents to go in order for it to be compatable. It works wonderful with windows. I have had no problem whatsoever. I use word and excel all the time and it is a breeze to carry my work with me. Overall it is quite easy to use. I have not tried the internet as yet but I have heard it works well. If you are looking for a good pda I would highly recommend the Tx. This is my first one and I'm glad I chose this one."

A great assistant12/14/2007
By MikeOhfrom Ohio
What's great about it: clarity, size, ease of use What's not so great: web browser, battery
"A great little machine. Plenty of storage for business related items, expandable for music or photos. The software works well, the sync is easy to do and use. Sometimes the graffiti function doesn't recognize what I want to draw, the letter k comes up as Ld, t sometimes is l. q can be tricky, u is usually a v and x is a real challenge. The wifi is great, it connects quickly and easily. You can do some basic browsing, I was able to check bank account balances at the airport and of course emails. The size is great, easy to keep with you. All in all, a great machine, sorry to see that they are being phased out in favor of the phones."

Highly recommended12/10/2007
By kiyotchanfrom Portland, OR
What's great about it: Easy to read screen, huge memory, e-mail, wi-fi. What's not so great: Photo software freezes the system, poor web capability
"The reason for this purchase was mostly because of medical software (ePocrates) that I need to use at work. Used to have the original Palm III, and have been impressed how fast the machine works and how refined and clear the screen is. If you are a medical or nursing student, and Macintosh user, I would highly recommend this device. This would eliminate the need of many textbooks and references. The wi-fi connection is quite responsive, and I am impressed with the speed that I receive mails.
I have tried the photo software, and even though it works well, after turning off the PDA, it has to be reset every time. I suspect there is a problem with the software, but I have not been able to identify what it is yet. The web capability is limited probably due to the limited screen area.
Unfortunately, Palm has not improved this device lately, and I am not sure what the company has in mind for its future. The stock price has plummetted for the past few days, which tells me Wall Street is worried with Palm's leadership ability. For this reason, I think that Palm devices will be heavily discounted; so if you have been eyeing one, I would wait for a hugh reduction in price soon. $199.99 is a start, but I predict it will be in $150 range."

TX is not for Windows VISTA12/07/2007
By Frustratedalsofrom Denver, CO Dec 2007
What's great about it: WiFi and display are nice What's not so great: Doesn't work well with Windows Vista
"To get this to work with Windows Vista you have to download a Beta Version of the installation software from Palm, which they don't guarantee. It turned out that it worked, what they don't tell you is that DataViz Documents to Go which comes with the Palm TX will not sync with the Palm TX even after you download the Beta Installation Software and it won't support Microsoft Office 2007. However, for additional money DataViz will sell you a version that does work with Windows Vista. Bottom Line is that if you are not a computer geek don't buy this for use on a computer with Windows Vista unless you enjoy being frustrated and hit with additional cost."

What's great about it: Full screen for Docs to Go, works well with folding keyboard. WiFI works well What's not so great: Web Browser is terrible, digitizer's alignment drifts
"I've had it for about two years. I've used it with a folding keyboard instead of lugging a laptop around. Docs2Go works and works well in this situation. Also the run time is usually longer than you're typical laptop unplugged. Recently had to use WiFi with an add in terminal emulator (TuSSH) and easily connected back to computers I had to monitor. This unit is NOT 2 years old, Best Buy replaced the prior unit under extended Warranty because of excessive drift of the digitizer (the Geek Squad Guy really threw it out trying to fix it). <sigh> Its a perfect match of form and function, at least for me. People are quite impressed when I pull it out at meetings, connect the keyboard and start taking notes. The landscape mode really helps. If I lost it I'd get exactly the same unit again. (of course a longer battery life would be nice). Only real complaint is the cover which tears and dies in about six months. Bill"

What's great about it: Easy to use and set up What's not so great: None
"I am a nursing student and when a Doctor I work with recommended that I buy a Palm TX instead of investing in the 20 reference books that are required for clinicals, I was skeptical. The Palm TX is easy to use and set up. I am able to connect to the web using the wireless web feature and when I don't have wi-fi access I can switch over to using Blue Tooth technology to access the web. Also, the Palm TX is truly an all in one device, I keep track of all my classes, exams, phone numbers, etc. at the same time I can use my Palm TX as an MP3 player and able to listen to my favorite music and can even download e-books to listen to. All my clinical reference books are now in my Palm TX and I don't have to carry around all the books that my classmates have to. I would recommend the Palm TX for everyone especially Medical Professionals."

By palmbuddyfrom Westminister, California
What's great about it: geared towards the bussiness worker What's not so great: no phone
"The TX is geared towards the buissiness man/woman who likes organization. It has bluetooth and wifi capabilities to talk to your phone and to wirelessly connect to the internet. Of course this phone can play music and videos but the internal memory is only at 32MB which 28 is user available so getting an SD memory card would be the smartest meve to make when buying this product. The TX can manage and create Windows office with the up-dates coming out from the pam website. The Plam TX comes out with alot of new features that people enjoy but Palm may need something new and inovative to dazzle the competition in their next product."

Great Product09/18/2007
By Mellowflute
"I've owned the Palm TX for about 8 months. It has been a great tool. I only wish it had a phone built in. That would make it the Ultimate working tool.
The features are great on it. I use Wi-Fi capability a lot. You can switch the screen between portrait or widescreen view. It works great. The Palm TX is also great for video and pictures. I use a 2GB SD card and it holds a lot of information. A 40 min video (mp4) is about 249,000 KB. A 2 min music video is about 7,900 KB. So you see it can hold quite a few videos. I use it a lot to view “How To” Videos. It’s a great reference tool.
The MP3 player works good with headphones, however it does have an internal speaker but the quality isn’t very good."
