Great Basic PDA   03/26/2008
By SLS08

What's great about it: Small, sturdy, easy to use, long lasting

"I've had this PDA for about 2 years now and it's still going strong. I use it to book appointments and keep contacts handy. The only accessory I've ever used are the screen protectors. Lasts many days on a single charge. I'm very happy with this device!"

Value for money.   03/03/2008
By Dexter999

What's great about it: Everything
What's not so great: Shelf life

"I have been a gadget freak all my life. I have owned number of gadgets ranging from cellphones, pda's to mp3 players. I've been using the z22 for a few days and have found it to be a great product for anyone not concerned with wireless, a large handheld display screen or extended memory.
The install for the z22 was easy and worked flawlessly. I tried the install via the usb port on Macintosh System X and Windows XP formats. The installation program pulled all my old palm info into the Z22; memos, contacts, calendar and task functions were all maintained in the upgrade. Some of the older applications were not compatible with the Palm 5 OS on the z22. Most of the problems apps were old games that I was not that concerned about.
Colors are bright and reading the screen is easy in light or dark settings.
The battery lasts a long time. I once used a Palm M515 color palm and it needed recharged a lot more than the Z22 does. The advertised time of 8 hours between charges is probably accurate.
The size and weight of this device is very light - it is not much bigger than my pager and fits very comfortably in a pocket.

Not for Vista   02/28/2008
By Brado

What's great about it: Good size & potential
What's not so great: Does not work on MS Vista OS

"A very handy item which I have enjoyed using in the past. Not fancy but does all the basics. Lean and mean without all the extra clutter.
Current versikon does not seem to work with MS Vista OS. Even after downloading Vista conduits from Palm, still does not sync data.

Good entry level Palm   02/18/2008
By FrugalJ from Massachusetts

What's great about it: Easy to use, has all the important features
What's not so great: Wish you could buy a new battery, different colors, etc.

"This does everything I need it to do and more. One draw back: I think the alerts drain the battery. They turn the Palm on any time of day or night, and I think I might stop using them.
I'm on my second Z22 after water got into the case I was using around my first one. Even so, the Palm worked pretty well after being blow-dried; I think it just didn't hold a charge.
One beef: How come I had to pay as much for my second one as for my first even though a couple years had passed? Shouldn't this have come down a bit by now?

Very Great little organizer   02/13/2008
By madness1012

"I really like this product. I bought it to keep track of bills and assigments due, but once I got it it opened up a whole new world. I particulary love the checkbook application which allows you to enter your account balance and keep a check register right in your pocket all of the time...you can sync it with your computer and right onto your desktop it goes. It even calculates the balance for you. I have seen many people comment that they have to tap the touchscreen repeatedly to get an application to open up, I noticed the problem at first too, but there is a simple fix. If you go into preferences you can re-do your touchscreen alignment, which makes all the difference in how the touchscreen responds. I have no problems with it now at all.. I would certainly recommend this product to someone who would not need all the bells and whistles and is just looking for an organizer. It is absolutely wonderful"

Good little PDA   02/12/2008
By jmain from Ohio

What's great about it: Price, functionality
What's not so great: No memory expansion

"This is a great little PDA for getting organized and storing your contacts. I bought it for my wife, and she loves it. She just needed a basic organizer (without the bells and whistles), and the Z-22 fits the bill. I do wish it had a memory expansion slot."

Good for the money   02/11/2008
By Steph10323

What's great about it: Small, easy to navigate
What's not so great: Unable to add memory

"This is a good PDA for everyday needs such as keeping a schedule on you, to-do lists etc.. However, I purchased it for nursing school and had to return it as you can not add memory to it which limits it's use. But again, if you are just wanting the basic functions its a good item for the money."

Reliable entry level device   02/10/2008
By Wesdoc from Portland, OR

What's great about it: Simple to use, rugged construction, syncs well
What's not so great: Limited add-ons, no external memory

"When my $300 PDA went belly up, I needed a device mainly to keep a calendar, a list of contacts and memos with a sync program. Since I have access to the same type of information on work and home computers, I wanted portability without all the bells and whistles. The Palm Z22 answers that need. The Graffiti and on-screen keyboard allow quick entry of data. For its size, 3 x 4", it has an adequate color screen. The Hot-Sync function works well. All in all, a reliable device for about half the price of the next tier of PDA's"

Just what this mother of Teenagers needed   02/10/2008
By GadzookMom from Madison, Ohio

What's great about it: reminder notices, handwriting recognition
What's not so great: reccomend a case, like to see some personal options

"I bought this PDA to keep up with my two teenagers conflicting practice and rehearsal scheduals, not to mention my own. So keep in mind my opinions are for strickly home based use.
One of the major reasons I purchased a PDA was to set reminders for myself. I needed a little bell to tell me who needed to be picked up or dropped off where and when. This little unit meets and exceeds this need. I love that I can set what date reminders are to start and what date they end as well as how often they reminde me inbetween. With this software not only does my PALM reminde me when I'm out, but, when I sync the information to my dasktop, my computer remindes me when I'm working at home. I can set it to reminde me of birthdays every year. I enter the date once and it remindes me ahead of time every year.
Battery life is awsome and it charges fast when nedded.
My palm is suprisingly durable. It fell out of my purse, landed on the pavement and slid across the sidewalk. I was shocked to see it didn't even scatch the screen. Although I have no plans to repeate this test of endurance, I was very happy to see the little unit was not as fragile as I would have thought. That said, I will insest in a case soon.
It's also small enough to replace my purse size calendar in my purse and actually take up less space than the calendar.
It's very easy to use. The only problem I had was figuring out the hadnwriting recognition. Here's a big hint, the screen you need to write on is actually at the bottom of the screen where the short cut buttons are. Once I figured that out, it was only a matter of practice.
I easiliy typed in all the phone numbers and addresses I had in my rolodex at home into the Palm program on my computer, and now I have them at my finger tips and on my computer.
I like that the software is smart enough to default to the latest entry when I sync the handhelp unit to my desktop. When I update something on either, the latest update is what in saved on both when I sync.
If I were to design one specificly for my own use, I would add a few options to the software, such as expanded filing options for both the contacts and expenses. I like the expenses idea, but I need catagories for expenses that are more personal and not strickly something you would use as a business expense.
Overall, I understand these things are used for business and I am something like a square peg. Still, I would (and do) reccomend this to all the soccer mom's out there. I've instructed my daughters that they are to enter every activity I am expected to attend, drop them off at or pick them up from. It has also been a great help at preventing double bookings. Now, instead of trying to remember what the family has written on the calendar at home, I have it at my fingertips!

WARNING: Waste of Money   01/31/2008
By jwalk

What's great about it: Price $99.99
What's not so great: Unreliable

"I'm sorry I read the reviews too late. Purchased the item in 4/2007. It is now 1/08 and it no longer works. The home screen/menu no longer displays and the only screens that appear are the Preference and HotSync screens. I am unable to access any of the applications or data I have on it. I have read and performed all the trouble shooting procedures on the website but still no results. $99.00+ tax down the drain, not sure if this is a lesson in, getting what you paid for."

It's OK   01/26/2008
By Raydias

"I bought this originally to help keep me organized and it did it's job well. It was small enough that I could carry it around with me. BUT, after several months, the screen stopped working. My younger brother was able to open it up and fix it...until it stopped working again. So now I have to go out and buy something else.
It worked for what I needed it to do it didn't last as long as I thought it should have.

Great to start off with   01/22/2008
By luckybrooke from Asheville, NC

What's great about it: Love the programs you can download from Palm
What's not so great: Too many places to put memos/notes

"I had read all the reviews, visited the web site, and finally decided on the Z22. It's small enough to put in my purse, or carry on my belt when I need to. The battery lasts a super long time, which is helpful if you're like me and forget to turn it off! I especially like using the SplashShopper, which I was able to download free from Palm, but it isn't the full desktop version. It helps me to organize my work and school schedule, not to mention any appointments that come up.
I don't use it as much for names, numbers, or addresses. There aren't very many accessories for it, but I bought a small digital camera case, and it works perfectly. I would rather have an mP3 player with it, but I don't want to have every other function that the bigger ones come with. I would like to see an expandable memory slot so that I could keep more photos with me.
Other than that, the Palm is very easy to navigate and figure out if you're like me and don't read the directions until there's a problem!
I definitely recommend the service plan, just in case.

Solid and Useful   12/13/2007
By karenbthatsme from Saint Charles, MO

What's great about it: Small, sturdy, long battery life
What's not so great: Graffiti doesn't easily recognize the lowercase "r"

"A class of mine required us to research PDAs and find one that would suit our needs without costing an arm and a leg. Well, here it is. I don't personally need internet connectivity, which was really the biggest difference between the z22 and its competitors. Most of the reviews I read considered the z22 to be the perfect starter PDA and they were absolutely right. I have owned it for a month now and carry it everywhere with me. I installed Pocket Quicken to track my spending, and I use the Contacts and Calendar features every day. The battery life is outstanding - I charge about once a week, and I really do use it several times every day. Very convenient to take out and about. I generally use the Graffiti feature for all my data entry and it is almost perfect - the lowercase r is rarely recognized. Guess I just need to get used to writing it REALLY BIG!"

Great until it dies prematurely   12/10/2007
By Micklest from New York

What's great about it: great, low-frills organizer
What's not so great: It will probably stop working in less than a year.

"The software is easy to use and set up. Has all I need in an organizer, all in one place. Has plenty of great extras available, including e-books, games, etc. It is not a computer or a phone. If you want that, get something else.
Unfortunately, even though I loved it and it made my life easier, it didn't love me back. The touch screen got buggy within about eight months and despite doing everything Palm recommended several times over, it never fully recovered and became unreliable. Sorry, but that's not right in today's market. No wonder they have lost so much ground to Blackberry.
SO, BEWARE.
Palm only warranties for 90 DAYS! There's a reason:
THIS PRODUCT IS UNRELIABLE BEYOND 90 DAYS!!

Great basic organizer   11/23/2007
By Anonymous from New Jersey

What's great about it: Small, easy to use
What's not so great: Screen resolution

"This
is a great little organizer for basic tasks. If you're looking to store
a do-to-list and a couple of phone numbers it's great. The schedule is
great for tracking the kids baseball and hockey games. Buy the 2 year
replacement for 13 bucks. Get the air case and the screen protector and
you'll be set. Good luck.

Great Simple PDA   11/20/2007
By DebiLee from Henderson, NV

What's great about it: Easy to use, colorful, sync with Outlook
What's not so great: No memory expansion availability

"I bought this PDA because I needed mainly a calendar and contact list that I could carry with me away from home. I love it. It is simple to use and stores the information I need perfectly. I can even keep track of my grocery list using the Memo feature. I love that I can download additional software to my Palm, like games or even document programs or Quicken. My only disappointment was that I had been using Windows Calendar on my new laptop (with Windows Vista) as I do not have Outlook. The Palm calendar syncs only with Outlook and not with Windows Calendar. But this is not a big deal, I just use my Palm as my main calendar anyway. I would purchase it again and recommend it to anyone looking for a simple PDA to track memos, dates, contacts, or even expenses and play games. Great product!"

What's great about it: Good price, fully-loaded with good PDA applications
What's not so great: No expandable memory, bluetooth, Wi-Fi or videos or music.
