Another Elder Scrolls hit10/07/2007
By DurktheTurkfrom San Diego, CA
What's great about it: Combat game play is smooth and intuitive What's not so great: Dungeon crawling becomes tiresome because they are all alike.
"This game takes all the best elements from Morrowind and makes them better. Players should find it easy to integrate magic and weaponry while fighting. The world of Cyrodil itself is grand and picturesque. I would recommend this game to both Elder Scrolls fans and newcomers."

Best RPG, Bar None10/07/2007
By paradsecarfrom St. Louis, MO
What's great about it: Length/depth of game play, graphics, sound What's not so great: Almost too long, some technical issues can cause it to be very tricky to complete certain quests
"Very rarely does a RPG match ES4:Oblvion's depth, length of play, graphics, or sound. I have been playing the game for months and I'm still only about half through it. This is the game's blessing and curse; at times it almost feels too long. The graphics are top notch (although longer load times and minor frame rate drops are some of the sacrifices you make) and the sound is fantastic (ambient sounds, especially in the wilderness, such as bird and cricket chips, immerse you into the world of Oblivion). A few minor technical glitches can make certain quests frustrating and force you to figure out how to complete a quest in a way other than the game designers intended. Other than those minor issues, this is by far the best RPG I have ever played on any system and is a staple game to any Xbox 360 owner's game library."

One of the Best RPGs available09/24/2007
By supahgrandpoobahnatorfrom California
"Oblivion is the latest chapter in the Elder Scrolls series, and I would say it is the best by far. The graphics are fantastic, especially outside of the cities in the forests. There are tons of quests to do, and many paths for your character to take (good, evil, etc), and what lifestyle you choose has a bearing on what quests you have the chance to attempt. There's SO much to do, I know that some people can get overwhelmed because it's not obvious in the very beginning what to do. I just recommend talking to a few people and you'll find your first quest. Because of the branching nature of the game, you can play it four-five-even six times and still not see everything. There are even two expansions, Knights of the Nine, and Shivering Isles to do when you're finished!"

"This game is incredible! The Main character and the story is completely customizable! You can do it all this game. The 3-D environments and the graphics prove the XBOX 360 is an incredible machine. The world map is enormous and the game runs very smoothly, the loading time is very brief and the features are endless. A must have for any RPG player!"

Great Game09/18/2007
By emeraldgslfrom Santa Ana, CA
"This is a great game from start to finish and should be purchased by any RPG or Non-RPG fan. The story is amazing and will hook you from start to end. It is an open ended game, so technicaly there is no ending if you choose. There is some lag in ceratin parts, but nothing that will affect your enjoyment of the game. A must buy!"

A FPS/RPG game that gives that sense of freedom.09/17/2007
By Xiayohenfrom Bay Area, CA
"After finally letting myself to play their 4th installment, it was a choice that I would never regret. For playing over a 100 hours worth of side quests and main other things you can actually do, this is a definite game to buy for your 360 if you enjoy RPGs. In Oblivion, it's your choice to go through the main quest where Oblivion gates are opening up around the land and causing havoc among the citizens in the area.
Gameplay is like most of the Dungeons and Dragons (Or the same genre) games, acting it as a RPG, but in FPS mode. In the beginning you can immediately customize your character from every detail noticeable (Nose, neck, race, you name it.) There are many ways to deal with enemies, be it in stealth, or head-on attacks. These attacks can come in a range of sword/axe/mace fighting, or using bow and arrows from far away. What's also useful is to have a shield on your other hand to deflect arrows and blows as soon as they land them, giving you a chance to strike them in a counter-attack. Not only that, but there's even magic in this game to master as well! When you put your target on an enemy, you can also see their health to see if your weapons or magic are doing any good against them. In this RPG, the way how you level up your skills is to constantly use them whenever you can (I.E: Bow mastery is leveled up by hitting enemies with the bow and arrow. The more you level up the mastery, the more). However, this causes players to actually "farm" their skills to master it to 100. You can choose your main skills (up to 7) that will level up faster, and choose your class to get extra abilities, but it's still a long way to go for some players. With all that above, these many abilities and skills can be used any way you want to, literally. You can attack the guards if you want, and you actually get sent to jail! Or if you refuse to head in quietly with a fee, you will fight them to the death. Doing various acts can cause a rise or fall of your karma status, causing other NPCs to view if you're a bad or good person in general when you first meet them.
Graphics are amazing in this game. The way how Oblivion manages to fit an entire country in your screen is to pre-load one section at at time before you enter another one, so there will be slight pauses of loading textures if you rush to another place. Each time you go into a house, it will come to a load screen as well. Every detail on all potions, books, weapons, and fruits are detailed on the ground and on any object they may reside on. The effects of when you get knocked around during a fight are also realistic, staggering back and trying to get your footing once more. If you wanted to, you can also go in a 3rd person view of your character and walk around in that view. There are also amazing spell effects, but the more powerful versions of the other spells will just cast the same animation.
Sound is a high as well. Hearing the ambient music while looking over a mountain of the land you just climbed is just an astounding experience. All of the NPCs will also taunt or help you in various situations. There is a lack of voice actors, however, so you will hear the same voice over and over for some humans/non-human NPCs. Other various sound effects include running through water and hearing the deathly environment in the Oblivion lands.
With all that in mind, there a few gripes I had with this game. The way you level up is by first upgrading your primary skills, then taking a nap. What's annoying is that as soon as you pass a level cap, all the monsters (Anywhere) will level up with you with better equipment. Another problem was that no matter how much good karma you possess, their "attitude" won't improve at all. Just getting negative karma will lower that number all the time, causing you to tell "jokes" to them constantly until their mood is acceptable for them to talk to you. Still, this is a great game to buy. Various side quests and the main quest will draw you in to hours and hours of gameplay!"

Greatest RPG ever made09/17/2007
By MightyMugenfrom Houston, TX
"At first when I played Oblivion I did not get what was going on. There is so much in the game that you always lose the main plot of the game. I've seen people that put more than 700 hours of gameplay into Oblivion and still have plenty of time to put into the game. I started the game again and i cannot get enough of it. There is so much to do it seems like forever untill you beat everything there is to offer. I recommend this game because it will keep you entertained and also takes a very long time to beat...."

Truly on of the best RPGs09/16/2007
By PinoOhkifrom Central Florida
"This is truly an RPG where you get your money's worth. 200+ hours of gameplay, and that is if you try to blaze through the game. A multitude of quest in addition to the main one; also downloadable quests to expand on the storyline. There is no timetable or fixed path. You can do the main quest first then the rest afterwards, or vice-versa. Or if you want, just explore the world. I have done that, just walking around, sometimes getting lost, and yes, even watching the sun rise or set. Also characterization to fit the player's mind set. I am more of a stealth player, so the thief was more my style. And at this new price, even more of an incentive for the uninitiated to dive in; or course the only minus, if you can call it that, is the lack of multiplayer. But who knows, maybe that is what Betheseda is cooking up next!"

Awesome 360 Game09/14/2007
By Anonymousfrom Palmdale, CA
"This game plays well with alot of subquests and interesting characters. I particularly enjoyed the dark-brotherhood subquests because of their indepth story and plot twists. The only thing I don't like about this game is how long it takes to get from destination to destination on foot. Other than that though this is a must have for rpg fans. The only other thing that could've made this game better would be if it featured some online play."

Beautiful game09/13/2007
By patches
"Oblivion is still one of the best looking games out there on any platform. Gameplay can be hard if you end up messing up your character creation. Which is really easy to do. Leveling up your character requires planning ahead and only raising the attributes that play to your character's strengths to avoid having a weak character. Not doing so can make the game incredibly difficult because as you level up, so do the enemies you encounter. When that happens, you just end up quitting and start over creating your character again because there's really nothing you can do at that point. I think this is why some people find the game difficult and end up never completing it, including myself. Reminds me of Grand Theft Auto. Who's finished that game? seriously."

Not a fun game...Very Boring09/13/2007
By SteelBlueTJfrom Altoona, PA
"I bought this game and feel very misled. I was expecting a huge quest-like game kind of like Zelda but this was far from that. I'll take Zelda anyday over this. The game is so slow paced and boring. Its very difficult too and the gameplay is very awkward to get used to. The menus are confusing and tough to read and navigate. The only good thing I have to say about this game is the graphics, which are really good. Other than that its horrible in my opinion."
