One Mic to Rule Them All! 10/14/2008

What's great about it: Cannot be beat in this price range. Period.
What's not so great: Not the first choice for studio recording, but passable.

"SM58's are the best *dynamic* mics you can buy for performing in this price range. They will take a beating on the road, too. Great sound, live. If you are recording vocals in the studio or at home, you could move up to a condensor mic. Before the surge of lower-priced condensors and no-name import dynamic mics, the 58's ruled, bar-none. Solid mic. Shure builit it's empire on this line."

What's great about it: legendary name. solid, reliable mic.
What's not so great: cap isnt durable at all, volume is low.

"this is a good mic but i think a lot of why this mic is so popular is because of the name. dont get me wrong, its not bad at all but compared to newer, similarly priced mics, this isnt that great. it does have a nice warm tone to it, but not everyone wants that. i wanted a clearer sound. also, this mic seems to have a much lower volume than other mics which is weird. but overall you cant go wrong with this mic. im not mad that i bought it but its definetly not my favorite. all i can say is dont buy this for the name, do some research first, then if you still want a 58, go for it."
