This is an amazing little gadget! We first tried another product that we got elsewhere and it lasted all of maybe 2 to 3 hours and wasn't nearly as helpful as this Garmin even when it was working...
Our kid travels all summer for sports, and our Garmin was the envy of all the other parents who, also traveling in strange cities, were so happy they could follow someone who "knew" where they were going. It gave us freedom to leave our hotel rooms and locate restaurants, shopping, entertainment, etc. and feel comfortable that we'd find our way back and in time to venture much further than we typically do when traveling in strange cities.
Our favorite features are: (1) the voice telling us to "turn right on such-and-such road" (keeps us from having to look while driving), (2) the clock that tells us our estimated arrival time (we used that feature to know what time we needed to leave to make sure we weren't late to any games, which also re-calculates itself the entire time so you can see if you're losing or gaining time), (3) and the fact that if you skip/miss a turn or have to go around an accident/construction, it recalculates and still gets you where you need to be without making you turn around. We also loved being able to locate favorite restaurants, stores, our tournament locations, etc. often by only typing in their names (WHICH saved us from driving nearly 17 miles out of our way when we realized there was a closer same chain restaurant near our hotel.)
Even my hubby, who is NOT a techie guy and thought he didn't "need" someone giving him directions, loves it! Our use of it this past summer alone makes it worth every penny we paid! :)

What's great about it: Solid design
What's not so great: Software updates
This has been a great GPS for me. It has taken me everywhere I need to go. The only downside I have is that you have to continually download updates off of their website to be up-to-date. I know other GPS do not require this and allow you download while you are connected to the satellites rather than a computer.

What's great about it: Faster start up
What's not so great: cannot save my preferred routes
This is my second garmin gps, the first one does not have a preloaded map and that can get annoying; with the nuvi 350, map is preloaded & I can use it out from the box. Start up time is faster than older generation of garmin gps. I have this unit for a year now & my battery still is in good conditon, unit still does it's job.
Here's what I don't like: 1) cannot save preferred routes which in my old unit that is possible.
2) when program to calculate for shortest routes it wil give me too many turns.
3) there is one route that I am supposed to turn right but the gps never said anything, but on screen it is showing a right turn.
Garmin is a good product, they are not perfect but this unit helped me to get to my destination when I am in unfamiliar place.

What's great about it: -A very appealing interface & very user friendly. MP3 feature rocks.
What's not so great: -Its antenna is sticking out in a way that might be annoying. It does not quickly detect when u go off the path
I got this garmin after people recommended it to me over the tomtom. I can safely say that its menus are more user friendly than my previous tomtom and more appealing. The one feature that maybe not so important to some but is for me is that it groups restaurants by type of food (while tomtom just throws all the restaurants at you and you have no idea which restaurant offers which cuisine) Also there is an autocomplete feature that helps you type in addresses.
The down side is that I don't like the antenna sticking out. It kind of annoys me. Another disadvanatage is that it does not readily detect when you miss a turn or the like, especially when you are getting out of parking state the best it does is tell you "Drive to highlighted route". This is not so much big of a deal but tomtom did a better job is this area and was more responsive when you miss a turn.
The MP3 feature is very cool and text to speech is a must have in my opinion which helps you focus on the road and not alternating your attention back and forth between the GPS and the road to know where you should go.
Bottom line, IMHO, Garmin nuvi 350 is a good purchase, very user friendly, combined with your car's aux makes it a good music player. If you don't mind its antenna sticking out then you will surely like this GPS.

What's great about it: Tons of features. Ready to use out of the box.
What's not so great: None so far.
My father was put in the hospital in downtown Atlanta. My brother was trying to find directions from Birmingham to the hospital. I asked him for the address and just entered it on the touchscreen. Location popped right up and I drove straight to the hospital. Now that is peace of mind.
Once you use a GPS device, you will realize that they will soon become a "necessity" just like your cell phone. The Nuvi 350 will not dissapoint.

What's not so great: Takes a few minutes to find the satelites
So easy to use and so useful. You can do searches for restaurants, stores, gas...pretty much it will find whatever you need and tell you how to get there. Directions are always reliable and even has an MP3 player. Hands down the best gift I've ever gotten.

What's great about it: Small, portable, easy to use, and accurate
What's not so great: suction cup doesn't stick for long period of time
Great little unit! I love this small GPS because it's so portable. When making travel plans just pop it off the bracket in your car, bring it in and set it next to you when you are on your computer making travel plans. As you find hotels and point of interest online just type the addresses in the Garmin and save them in the address book. When you are on your trip you will know where everything is you want to see and do! I really love the pedestrian mode on this unit as wel, works great in big cities when you are wandering the streets trying to find your favorite coffee shop.

What's great about it: Not much
What's not so great: Everything
I purchased this unit a while back and was alright with it unll I saw a friends GPS. They have a Nuvi 750 and it is a night and day difference. There are so many more features and you get such a bigger screen for not to much more. If your going to buy a GPS I would only recomend a top of th line because you will soon be dissapointed in the one you have.

Best human interface of any electronic device I've ever owned or seen. Far superior to the built-in unit in my fancy Mercedes. The "heads-up" style display (perspective view) is easy to read at a glance. It is bright and clear under all conditions except when sun is shining directly on it... note however that wearing
polarized sunglasses diminishes the brightness significantly. The touch screen menu is clear, simple, and user friendly. It takes you to exact street numbers,
not to a range. It shows you names of cross streets as you approach. Window mount is well designed and secure. You can buy an extra window mount for ease in
cross-decking the unit between vehicles. It knows which streets are one-way. It knows the restricted hours for our HOV commuter lanes in Washington DC area. It
is not perfect, however. It occasionally picks a less-than-optimal route (but you still get there, and it recalculates when you know better and ignore an instruction). By all means plot a route with MapQuest also if you are planning a trip before you get into the car and go... no way a little hand-size unit like this will be as intelligent and up-to-date as MapQuest with its massive servers.
The Nuvi's built in rechargeable lithium-ion battery is not user replaceable when it eventually dies. Before you can use the map that comes with the unit you have
to establish an on-line account to activate it. Nuvi provides regular software updates for functions... not sure how often the maps are updated. Overall there
are very few drawbacks. A great product.

After kicking myself for not having purchased my vehicle with a navigation system, I picked up the Garmin Nuvi 350. And I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. It packs a huge punch in a small pocket-sized gadget, which means that unlike car-based systems, you can pick it up and take it with you whenever you travel across the country (or even in Europe, apparently, with the purchase of additional maps).
I usually just set the unit right down next to my arm rest or in a cup holder, and it's able to pick up an accurate signal with remarkable speed. The fact that
it pronounces street names is a fantastic feature, and the included voices are mostly clear sounding. It almost never loses its signal, even when accidentally buried under a jacket, and there's no real need to mount it on your windshield unless you really want to.
The navigation system is very intuitive to use. Unlike the kind built into Mercedes Benz and other cars, anyone (even the least technically inclined) can pick up this unit and start using it right out of the box. It literally needs no manual, and doesn't really come with one. The touch sensitive screen is bright and friendly.
The only feedback I'd give is that they should give you the option to type in street names with a QWERTY keyboard. The ABCDEF keyboard is easy enough to use, but it takes a moment to get used to. Finally, as with any GPS device, always do a common sense check on the directions it provides. I've found a few times when it has given me inaccurate ramp information or a slightly illogical instruction. That said, the Nuvi's ability to calculate fast, efficient, and accurate directions is quite impressive more than 95% of the time.
I now don't understand how I got along without it for such a long time!

I purchased a GPS because I am tired of my wife's navigational inabilities. She always tells me that she knows where a particular place is, only to get us lost
on the way there. I purchased this particular GPS brand and model because it was the #1 rated by the latest Consumer Reports review on GPS's.
Of course, I cannot compare it to different brands, and other models, as this is my first and only one. However, its top features includes:
(1) Navigational voices promts
(2) Touchscreen
(3) Windshield suction mount
(4) Outlet and car chargers included
I have now had this GPS for several months and have used while navigating in new cities. First of all, it felt great when I rented a car and I did not need a map.
I had previously set the locations (restaurants, hotels, places of interest) into the GPS at home, getting the addresses in the internet. All I had to do was to
press the location where I wanted to go, and the GPS would calculate and configure the route. I used it in the Washington DC area, and it worked flawlessly.

I had never owned a GPS unit before, but on a shuttle trip to the airport the driver had a Garmin unit, and I was surprised to find that even from a couple rows back I could still see the screen clearly. So I did a little research and got the Nuvi 350 for two reasons in particular: (1) it reads street names aloud, and (2) the Bluetooth connection to the phone (here in California, it's about to become state law that drivers must use a hands-free device with their cellphones, and I didn't have one).
It doesn't take long to learn that probably any GPS unit is going to have certain problems. For example, with LA's horrible freeway traffic I have the Nuvi set to avoid freeways; but certain streets that I consider surface roads are considered highways by the Nuvi (Santa Monica Blvd. is part of Route 66, for example). The better I know the area I'm driving in, the more often I see how the Nuvi isn't terribly smart about finding a really optimal route. But of course that's the sort of
situation where I don't really need a GPS unit because I already know my way around; and if I don't know my way around, I don't much care if my route isn't optimal, so long as it gets me there.
What I really love is how simple it is. The screen is easy to read, and the Bluetooth connection works wonderfully--once the cellphone is paired with the Nuvi, they simply find each other without your having to do anything ever again. It's easy to unhook the Nuvi and stash it in the glove compartment or wherever, out of sight; and I connect it even for short trips to familiar destinations, just for the Bluetooth connection. I don't really use it to find points of interest, though I'm happy
to find that my local grocery store is in there, and so was Universal when I had to go to a concert.

First, despite what the product description says, mine shipped with the latest maps (City Navigator v8). Anyway, Garmin's policy is to give you a free update if you buy a unit of theirs after they've already released new maps. Compare that to many other manufacturers where you can't get new maps, regardless! I will say, though, that the firmware was somewhat back level,
though it was very easy to update.
As for actual use, it has great features, very good sensitivity, and it's *really* light. The last one I had that was this light was the Garmin Quest, which I got rid of since it was so annoying to be continually reloading maps. Anyway, if you want the best, this is it. It's kind of hard to justify the $300-350 delta over the generic 3.5" Windows Mobile GPSs like the Pharos, but this unit is certainly more "elegant."
