Pros: i don't need a map!

"I swore I would never use a navigation system becuase it's too easy to get directions off the internet. I received this system as a gift for Christmas and won't leave home without it. You have to have the street address or it's not worth the time. But with an address the navaigation system is like having a peace of mind. It heavy traffic it will tell you when to switch lanes to merge, a definate plus. It will tell you if you've missed your destination and recalculate your directions. I don't ask for directions any more I make sure I have the address and I'm completely confident that I will arrive stress free."

"I purchased this Garmin to help me find my way around after moving to a new city. It is a huge reason that I am not lost right now! I like that you can search by business names as well as addresses, and that it keeps track of your recent locations. I don't like that the suction cup that holds the unit has come loose a few times and fallen over, but after monkeying with it a bit, it seems okay once again. I have only run in to one place where the name of an exit used by Garmin is different that the posted sign, but 99.9% of the time it is right on target. I also like it when I am told to "stay left" or "stay right". It's amazingly helpful when you are not familiar with the area. I would highly recommend it to any of my friends. Though I'll warn you, the default voice can be a bit condescending when you don't listen to it :)"

"Garmin makes awesome products, but mine broke within the first six months. I did not drop it, damage it or do anything to make it not work properly, it just stopped acquiring the satellites. But Garmin's customer service was awesome, and they sent me a refurbished one that is working fine, but still takes awhile to acquire satellites sometimes. Overall a good product."

"we enjoyed this so much that we bought each of our four boys one last Christmas, we are no longer getting losted in large cities. It is sturdy and compact, easy to use and love the favorite button, wherever we are, just push home and back home we go. Like the locations of resturants and gas stations also. Light up screen at night is a plus also."

Cons: Pour satellite acquisition, will not maintain satellite signal

"Unit did not always acquire as satellite signal. When it did, it took a long time to acquire the signal and it would loose it often. I found it to be unusable and had to return it. I also searched it on-line using the model number and the words “satellite signal”. I found quite a few other people had the same problem with this unit while other had no issue and love it. I’m sure it’s a great GPS if it works for you. If you buy it, be prepared to possibly need to return it."

"This Garmin has saved me many times while travelling. For the price, it's a nice basic unit. The only problem we have had was when it has told us our next turn (DRIVE 3 miles, turn left onto Main St), the wrong direction was given. As you get closer to your turn, it corrects itself and gives the correct direction. This may be USER error as I have not researched it further and it may have been because of the way we have it set-up. As you can tell, it's not bothersome enough for me to fix it."

"Iam satisfied with this product. I dont really use it much, but when I do use it did not fail me. However I do sometimes get dropout in the city. Hence the large building and other interference. Otherwise Iam happy with this item."

"I bought this product because I needed a navigation system, it was finacially a good buy not to expensive. Currently I have had no mechanical failures with the product. It does need to be updated periodically by uploading maps from the internet but the resources are available to you and the directions are also available to you. It is very easy to figure out for even the electronically inclined."

Pros: Clear, timely directions. Very easy to use. Quickly recalculates.
Cons: slightly bulky. Wish it had a repeat function. Occasional mispronunciation.

"I bought this product because I was moving to NJ/NYC area and from TX. I used it to drive from TX to NJ & have used it in NJ for a couple of days. It gives very clear directions and tells you the name of the roads to turn on (and even tells you if an exit is on the left or the right side of the freeway). It's almost like having someone next to you giving you directions!
If you get off path for any reason, such as a detour, it quickly recalculates the route. It also has a large directory of businesses, so it will tell you the closest hits for your search, distance and general direction from your current location.
The only drawbacks I have seen so far is some wrong pronunciations, such as FM (Farm to market) roads called Federated States of Micronesia and Garden State Parkway called G Parkway. Also, if you are not paying attention, I'm not sure it has a 'repeat' function for voice directions. The directions are on the screen, so it's generally not too bad but you miss out on the detailed info."

"I have had my c340 for about 6 months now and it was tottaly worth every penny. Its just so easy to use and makes finding any location a sinch. I am constantly on the road with my job and I can honstly say I never leave home without it. Even my brother flys to florida for work trips and is always begging me to borrow it. The product is there and the price is perfect! What more could you ask for."

"This product is pretty accurate most of the time. Some location targets are wrong. I feel it gives late info as far as when to turn. The biggest problem I have is that it does not stay on the windshield and it is bulky. I wish it was a more slim design. Other than that I enjoy using it. I like the fact that it's easy to use and the menu options for points of interest."

"I used to have a Magellan unit which was left behind in my rental car so I bought this unit for about half the price and it does all the more expensive units would do. I have had this unit now for about 1 1/2 yrs and love it. Having the SD card options allows me to save unlimited way points throughout all my travels so I am not always having to enter the address in. If your not looking to play your MP3 Files off a navigation unit this is the way to go. The unit locked up one time and I had to call garmin to find out how to reset it. Their customer service was OUTSTANDING compared to Magellan who will not even help you unless you give them your phone number , home address and answer a million other questions."

"This unit died one month after the warranty expired. Garmin has a repair fee of 150.00 no matter the problem. A new unit is 179.00. Makes no sense to repair. However I will not purchase another one. It does not stay on the windshield, and I think that all of the falls contributed to it's demise. I recently spent $50.00 on a new mount that sits on the dash which worked well, but now I'll have to eat it as well. Many times in a new city it sent me on wild goose chases only to find out after the fact from locals that there were always shorter and faster routes. DO NOT BUY THIS MODEL!"

Good GPS but with issues 07/03/2008

"Others have gone into great detail here, so I'll *try* to be briefer. I've used other, very sophisticated and expensive GPSs, and so there are certain things about the C340 that bug me. But for the price, I don't think you can beat it.

Rather than criticize it in comparison to the more expensive systems, I'll simply offer some thoughts that I think could be different about the unit even at its current price:

1) It loses contact with the satellites pretty easily, and if you are driving in a city with a lot of tall buildings around you, don't expect the Streetpilot to be of much help. Even in Philadelphia, with it's relatively small downtown, it goes astray and loses contact as soon as I get into the high-rises of Center City.

2) Its verbal alerts to a turn or a merge come very late, sometimes no more than 1/2 of a mile, which can be a bit of a problem at highway speeds, especially in
heavy traffic (e.g., you know you're about to exit, but it turns out the exit is left instead of right). Yes, you can touch the screen and have it tell you the info at any time earlier, but, again at fast speeds in heavy traffic, I don't want to have to play with the thing. If they're going to provide the verbal alerts, why not at a point that gives you time to merge?

3) The route calculation algorithms, as with many less sophisticated systems like this, are sometimes pretty haywire. If you're familiar with an area, you'll be
amazed at how wrong it can be. If you're completely lost, though (as I am most of the time), it's a life saver.

4) Battery life is not great. It's best to keep the thing plugged in to your cigarette lighter all the time."

Pros: Starts new route when you miss a turn, long battery and colorful
Cons: Might not always be able to find the fastest route

"This system has never not gotten me to my destination, I have had it for a month. The only issue I have had is that it probably took me through some long traffic jams here and there when that probably could have been avoided with a different route. Other than that it is great, I go on a lot of road trips and this has been most helpful. I love never having to fear about missing a turn it will just continue the route as if nothing happened."
