I just bought this speaker from the magnolia section of best buy. I compared to all the other center channels they had and except for one (that was $999 bucks) this blew them all away! Crisp clear sound on all levels. Buy this if your shopping!

What's not so great: A little heavy
Needed a new center speaker and this was recomended by the Home Entertainment center. Not oversize and not too heavy it fits nicely in the entertainment center's limited area.

My old Energy center speaker bit the dust and I hurried down to BestBuy to replace it. Wanted to make sure my sound system was complete, I went in looking for something completely different and was recommended the Definitive center speaker ProCenter 1000. It sounded good in the showroom, but we know how that works sometimes. Took it home and was blown away at the difference in clarity, bass and voice. With all new speakers, they have a break in period. These are great out of the box.

What's great about it: Small size, full sound, and cabinet finish (piano gloss)
What's not so great: Absolutely nothing
First off, I have the speaker teamed up with two Pinnacle DB2000 tower speakers in front, and two Pinnacle BD1000 tower speakers for the rear surround, and a Pioneer SW-8 100 watt powered SUB. This is all powered by a Yamaha RX-V671 7.1 receiver. I was initially worried that my speakers would belittle the sound of this speaker, given it's size. I was mistaken. This speaker is great for any level audiophile. Made some slight tweaks to the center channel EQ with my A/V Receiver, and it was all set. Works great in quiet settings, and also works great when cranked up with surround to get that in theater feel. At low volumes, dialogue is crisp and clear and easy to hear, and at higher levels, voice and center channel production is powerful and fills the room with rich sound. Played a wide array of music once I set this up, from Kanye West, to Michael Buble, to Pink Floyd and everything in between, and I was not disappointed there either. You can hear all the detail, down to the individual pluck of each guitar string!
Other thoughts: Only reason I marked power 4/5 stars is how it sounded in the magnolia room compared to other center channel speakers of it's price range. But don't let it's size fool you, some slight tweaks on my receivers center channel EQ (increasing 200-500hz db) and it sounded as powerful as the other, larger center channel speakers. I would venture to say, if you are spending $200 plus on a center channel, then I hope you would have a A/V Receiver to properly power this speaker.

What's great about it: Great sound reproduction and clarity.
This was part of a new system that replaced a HTIB unit. There is a HUGE difference in listening quality - movie dialogue, watching TV - these are "center" functions, and this unit handles it beautifully.
Do yourself a favor and give these a listen in the "Magnolia" home theater area of your BB store. Definitive Technology bundles this center with their 800 series speakers as a ProCinema 800. Best Buy matched online prices on the bundlee, saving me some $'s.

The sound is so clear coming out, spoken word is like they are right in front of you. Size of speaker is fine, I was looking @ the Polk center channel speaker way too big. This speaker is sleek looking with great benefits.

Sounds great! Very dissappointed in how it looks after it was mounted. We had someone from the Geek squad do a consultation to do our entire home theatre. She suggested this speaker. Now I have a big UGLY black speaker sticking out from my wall above my fireplace! It seems to me she should have taken this into consideration when picking the speaker. We have no mantle above our fireplace so this is very noticible. A recessed speaker probably should have been recommended. I guess I am more dissappointed in the Geek Squad than the speaker itself!!!!!

I purchased as an initial home theater setup. Only have a 3.1 setup and have this paired with the DefTech Studio 350 Bookshelf Speakers and DefTech ProSub 1000 Subwoofer. It puts out quite a punch for it's size and is perfect for a home theater center speaker. The sound is clear and crisp. This makes a good addition to any system.

I purchased this speaker having not replace my center channel since the mid 90's and with my current system its like sending a 90 year old into high school, just not a good mix so i wanted to make sure i found the right speaker for my system. After looking around for over a month i found this speaker and was very cautious, so after listening to this speaker on different days i bout it. this speaker has a ton of power for ANY system and it is as clear for the quiet movie scenes, well worth the money. If you have trouble hearing this in your system dont blame this speaker. Don't let the size fool you.

this is only for a small system set up. If you have very powerful main speaker don't get this. not enough speaker for medium to large speakers. Sad to say i was recommended this by a sales person and the magnolia location in plano texas Kinda made me feel liek the sales person didn't know his speakers . I would have paid more but he told me this would be fine.

I bought this to because I was so pleased with the performance of my pro 1000 sub that I purchased a few months back and I am completely amazed at how such a small center channel can put out such big sound. Now I want to get rid of all the rest of my speakers and go with the Def Tec. speakers. I am running this of a ! Sony STRDG 1000 amp and it can take everything it can put out. I think it is time to get rid of my 301 and 201 Bose surround speakers! Cant go wrong with this speaker that is for sure!

What's not so great: Poor low frequency response
This would be an average or possibly above average speaker except for one thing. The low frequency response is poor. The specification says 47Hz. What that actually means is that at full power, you might be able to hear a 47 Hz tone if the room is quiet. It desperately needs a sub-woofer with a crossover frequency of at least 120 Hz. That's way too high for a speaker of this size and at this price point. If you don't care about low frequency response, the high frequency response is great, ruler flat to beyond 20 kHz (measured with a calibrated microphone and a real-time frequency analyzer program). I rate it at 1 star because of the highly misleading low frequency response specification.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I always research costly purchases to death and this time was no exception. So when over 95% of the reviews for this center speaker, the Definitive Technology ProCenter 1000, on Best Buy's site and other web sites exclaim its virtues I listen.
Literally. I was looking to replace my Bose center speaker because either my hearing was declining or the speaker just didn't emit the clear voices I needed to enjoy a movie. My wife was getting tired of telling me " what they said ".
I do have 2 Def. Tech. ProMonitor 800's that I'm using as my front speakers in my 5.1 system and they are fantastic. But I checked out other brands for the center anyway. I guess I wasted my time doing that because
I ended up getting the same brand for my new center.
And as a bonus, they all match perfectly in size ratio and piano gloss finish! if you haven't heard Definitive Technology speakers, get over to Best Buy and do so. Bring along your MP3 player or a CD that you know well and listen to these speakers!
You'll be glad you did!
