I had a dual sub setup which consisted of one Prosub 800 and one Prosub 1000. I replaced the 800 with another 1000 and it evened the base out nicely. Now when I view movies the base has a strong, even sound in my theater room. I highly recommend a dual setup to all prosub users!

What's great about it: Great for movies, price is fair, superb build quality
What's not so great: musical range, boring design
Overview:
Definitive Technologies is generally regarded as the speaker brand for home theater crowd rather than the audiophiles (those who listen to primarily music). While the speakers generally sound very good with music, they are stellar for movies- especially the action kind. This subwoofer is no different.
The ProSub line is Def Tech's "entry" level line of subwoofers (and the ProSub 1000 is at the top), but the construction is top notch. Don't get me wrong, nobody will ever confuse it for a $1000 REL, Bowers & Wilkins, or Martin Logan, but at the same time, it FEELS high quality. It's also pretty heavy- which is a good thing. The finish is matte black, which isn't very exciting- but it also won't pick up finger prints when it's touched.
As with any speaker, a proper break-in is REQUIRED to get the best performance. Don't go home, plug it up, and just blast away- it needs a few days of low volume listening. This will dramatically increase the life of the sub and give you the best output.
Now for the sound quality: Musically the sub has quite a bit of range. I listened to several different types of music (from Ludacris to Enya) and the sub did a good job overall. Like I said, however, it's in movies where it really shines. Gunshots are not only heard, they are FELT. Explosions will shake the room (and in my case, brought complaints from neighbors). This is by far the best sub I've experienced for movies (easily better than my $1500 Bowers and Wilkins). Playing Call of Duty Black Ops was a thrill- every gunshot and thrown grenade was a heart-thumping experience.
At $500 this is a solid pick for any home theater, however, if you're listening to music 100% of the time, then a Martin Logan or B&W (or even Def Tech's SuperCube line) will be a better fit.
Pros:
-VOLUME CONTROL IS ON THE SIDE!! This is a huge bonus- not having to reach behind the sub to turn the volume down is a big help!
-Movies and Games sound incredible, heart thumping, wall rattling sound
-Excellent Build Quality
Cons:
-Good, but not great for music
-Boring design
This product has... Good build quality
About me... Audiophile, Tech savvy

I purchased the definitive satellite speakers about a year ago and have been extremely pleased with them. When my existing subwoofer could no longer fill the media room with deep bass, I looked again to Definitive. As a person that primarily will be using this sub for movies, I believe this represents the best performance for the price.

What's good: everything...it's small doesn't take up much room. Sounds giant. Easy to tune.
What's bad: nothing...really nothing.
I bought the b&w sub and it was like I didn't even have a sub. So I bought the definitive. Wow you certainly know I have a sub now. I use it mostly for my home theater system and it's great! I had a friend over who is setting up a theater system and he is sold on
This sub. It has the forward firing sub and the downward firing radiator. This is great for sound and you can feel how powerfully it is also. I can't say anything bad about this sub. I think it sounded beter the the super cube also.
Great sub

What's great about it: The Sub is compact. It wasn't hard to find a place to make it sound good. the sub is very clean at high volumes.
What's not so great: It's rated 18-150 hz. I dont think this is a fair rating. I believe 25-150 would be more like it.
I purchased this sub about a month ago. I use it for anything that can produce sound. I have this joined with the Polk TSI400's. This woofer helps me a lot. I set the TSI400 to 80 hz and let the sub handle anything lower. The sub rumbles, but it starts to mellow out below 30 hz. At first ,when I connected the woofer, I was think about returning it. I wanted something to bang. This was day one. On day 15, the day I watched Robin Hood, the woofer woke up. When they stormed the castle I heard every bang and felt every thump. The sub is very clean at high volumes. Although i never brought it passed 1/2 on the sub. I brought my Onkyo tx-sr608 to 82 (THX reference) and the sub vibrated everything that was on the walls.
This is my first sub that didn't come with an HTIB. Unless I want surround sound in my bathroom. I dont think i will go HTIB again.

What's great about it: Outstanding sonic qualities in low frequencies 30 to 90 K hz
What's not so great: Virtually nothing
Outstanding! The Definitive Technology ProSub 1000 cured the
"problem" with my Yamaha RX V 1900. It seemed like there was no output for the "LFE" portion of the receiver. Needed to replace the old sub. The "new" receivers like the Yamaha are evidently set up for the high powered subs. Tried a Polk 8 inch sub....OK but not for this receiver.
Sound produced was not enough for the room size. The ProSub 1000
is very tight and and no muddled output and only turned the volume to
about 30 percent. Highly recommend after listening to a lot of sub woofers. Buy this one ...you don't even need to audition any others!

What's great about it: deep clear bass
What's not so great: vibrates the neighbors walls
I have had this sub for little over a year it replaced my KLH 12" and it has not been tested to its full capacity because my neighbors have complained of the vibrating walls at their house. The sub is a good 150ft from from any house in my neighborhood , so as you can see this sub is awsome!!!!!!!!!! anfd full of deep bass. It is powered by a yamaha head unit and supported with klipsch quintet series speakers. I have enjoyed its performance and look forward to one day be able to raise the volume level past 4.

What's great about it: Deep & natural sound, no fabricated boominess
What's not so great: power a little light based on ratings
I have a VERY challenging living room for sound -- vaulted ceiling, open spaces, wide but not deep soundstage -- originally had a ProSub 800 with Studio Monitor 350s, sounded good for music but didn't get the WOW factor with movies -- looked at everything up to and including SuperCubes, but realized that I needed both deep and wide coverage -- with the help of Def Tech support (excellent BTW) ended up doing a dual sub setup with BOTH the 800 and 1000, with the 800 in the best corner and the 1000 on the opposite side of the same wall, and that made all the difference in the world -- tried the 1000 by itself, but while it had more depth than the 800, was still too localized -- I would recommend this combination for any ProSub 800 owners who feel like the 800 doesn't give them quite enough depth -- a really good bang for the buck upgrade

What's great about it: deep low base
What's not so great: nothing
Produces very deep, full base. Integrates sound well with my other speakers (Klipsch floor speakers). No distortion. Sounds like it produces deeper fuller base for its 10 inch size than several other comparable products.

What's great about it: Size is great! Volume knob on the side is genius!
What's not so great: Would be great if you had an output to daisychain another sub.
I purchased a home theater in a box a few years back and have always planned on upgrading it as the funds came along. This was the first upgrade and I could not be more satisfied with the purchase. Setup and tuning was a breeze. And the sound? Awesome! I have a large living area and even though I would like to get another, I have no complaints about the one. This sub will send waves of bass through the room and it flawlessly blends in with all types and flavors of music. Epic movies like Jurrassic Park have new life for me. I'm watching everything all over again like its new. I'm loving it!

What's great about it: Sound Quality
What's not so great: Big Problem/ Power turns off by itself
Does anyone know why my Defnitive Prosub 1000 get turned off by itself after playing for more than 30 mins? Is it an energy saving feature? I connected my sub to a Denon receiver, but the power get turned off by itself when I played video games and watching baseball, it was very annoyed. The red power indicator behind the sub was no longer lit. I keep testing it a few more times, it still does the same thing. CAN ANYONE HELP ME ON THIS? I set the sub to 90 HZ.

What's great about it: Great base output
What's not so great: nothing so far
I have a Yamaha RX-V863BL Receiver and Mirage - Nanosat Prestige5 speaker system. This is the best woofer for my setup. I first tried this out at the Magnolia Home Theater room and was impressed. When I brought this home I was even more impressed. I use this woofer at a quarter of its max setting because this thing puts out so much base. I almost bought two of these as I was not sure if one would be enough however I decided against it. Glad I only bought one and if needed I would definatly buy again.

What's great about it: This sub is an excellent responsive sub for a very reasonable price.
This is an excellent subwoofer i have it hooked up to my onkyo 876b receiever ---which i highly recomend also
hookup: extrodinarily easy to install a few seconds and one wire by the way any cable will do pretty much. it powers on automatically
Sound : it has a very tight sound to it. quick response time. i tried it with several movies nothing appears to cause it to rattle or give a choking sounds. the passive woofer i feel helps to maintain this sound it is so powerful i only use 10% of the power on it to avoid my wife from yelling at me. when i watch jurassic park you feel like the dinosaurs are there.
size: size was very important my wife doesnt especially like my hometheater desires but especially did not want to see a gigantic klipsch 12 inch in or family room.
ALL IN ALL THIS IS A GREAT SUB AND YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED
BTW ONLY AVAILABLE AT THE MAGNOLIA STORES

What's great about it: high quality sound
What's not so great: nothing!
after talking with the magnolia expert, he was very willing to take the time to show me the difference in the subwoofers. after looking between numerous subs. this one here fit my speakers perfect. i matched them with the Klipsh quinette III, and a yamaha reciever. also purchased the M series monster cable subwoofer cable, what a huge difference in sound from my old JBL venue series 10 inch. i had to turn down the gain on the sub to about half and turn the receiver down to 0db in order for it to be working properly. the sound is extremely tight and hits hard even when turned down. i highly recommend purchasing this sub over any other ones i looked at!

What's great about it: Awesome for music.
What's not so great: 10" sub is not going to shake the house like a 12" will
I bought the Klipsch sub 12 which is a 650 watt downward firiing 12" sub and a 'scratch and dent' Def. Tech ProSub 1000 which is a 10" 300 watt forward firing sub to have a 30 day bake off between them. Well, I am keeping them both. The 12" Klipsch sub-12 is in my theater room shaking my house and the neighbors house as well. The Def Tech ProSub 1000 is my family room where I mainly listen to music. It does not shake the house like the Klipsch, but it is very tight and a dream to listen to music. So depending on what you are using this sub for music or movies would determine which I would recommend buying.
