I recently purchased an ASUS desktop from Best Buy and was surprised that it didn't come with a wireless network adapter installed. I purhcased the Cisco Lynksys USB adapter and could not get the drive to install. I ended up calling Cisco support which was in India (Strike Two) and they were able to walk me through a manual install. Once everything was set up, I had only one bar on my icon (the router is 10 feet away). I ended up getting a Netgear USB adapter at CompUSA for less money. It works better and was simple to install.
What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Difficult to install; didn't pick up strong signal.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Since I purchased this product I have had nothing but trouble. It constantly keeps disconnecting from my router. When I call Linksys tech support they have me uninstall and reinstall the software each time and then try reconnect. It stays connected for a short time and then drops the connection. The last time I call even Linksys tech support could'nt get it to work. I am ready to toss this in the trash and find something other than Linksys.
What's not so great: It doesn't work

I never knew of the product until I had a problem with my laptop and to avoid costly work, it was suggested that I purchase this product. It was installed by the Geek Squad ( a guy I had work with before and trust) right on sight, tested, and it worked just fine. Still using it to date and without any problems. Love it.
What's great about it: It works just fine.

Do not buy any linksys adapter. They chose to not provide updated drivers for windows 7 and are forcing everyone to buy new adapters (even though my adapter is still under warranty and it says that it is requires "xp with service pack 1 or later" Is windows not "later" ?
Even under vista and xp, they never installed correctly.
You always have to call customer service to get these installed correctly. This time they said I had to buy a new adapter since the drivers will not work with windows 7
What's great about it: customer support normally good
What's not so great: lots of things. This is not windows 7 compatible. These never connect easily.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Note if you are setting up for vista or 7 DO NOT DO REGULAR INSTALL just go to your device manager click on the usb adapter and update from the cd. I have tested this from 100 feet and have gotten full strength dont listen to all the other reviews this thing handles well and is pretty close to matching my ethernet with just a bit slower dl speed. It works well
What's great about it: great range works well
What's not so great: price, set up for 7 and vista

I have had one for a couple of years and have experienced what everyone else says, in the older reviews at least. Mine died yesterday, and I was going to get another one until I read the reviews. Mine is one wall (and less than 6 feet) away from the Linksys wireless router, and I frequently have to pull it out and reinsert it, and that sometimes doesn't work. I frequently get the low connectivity alert. I'll spend a little more $$ this time.
What's great about it: cheap
What's not so great: poor range

I bought this yesterday to install at a computer that does not have that many PCI/expansion slots left. So I decided to go the cheap route on any Linksys adapter. This was the immediate choice I had at the store. I have always had good luck with Linksys/Cisco products.
My system is a Windows 7 custom built PC. In my case, the box read Windows Vista Certified. However, the installation went very smoothly. Just ran setup and automatically detected by wireless access points. Yes, plural. I have three at the house with different networks. Some using WPA2 and some using WEP. I am planning to buy another one for an old laptop I have for the kids...
What's great about it: Price and for me it was very easy to setup.
What's not so great: Can't complain about anything yet...

I had specific requirements: WEP & 802.11g on Windows XP that will also work on Windows 7. After researching a bit, this was the only adapter that fit the bill, was certified on Win 7, and endorsed as "works best with" the router/access point I have from the same manufacturer. It works fine, and I'm satisfied, so I'd make the same purchase again. Only issues: setup was odd, but somehow I got through it (yay!); doesn't provide "excellent" connection all the time (as my other two adapters in same location do, but flips between "excellent" and "very good". Go figure.
What's great about it: Gets the job done, on the less expensive side
What's not so great: Setup

I have several of these wireless devices. In my house, one story 1300 sq. feet, they work great. I installed two in my brothers home, 2 story 2400 sq. feet, and had to move the router several times to find the sweet spot. The computer on the first floor had problems connecting through three wall and the floor but less than 50 linear feet. Although we do have a reliable connection it took three moves of the router to find the correct area so both computers on each floor could connect with more than a weak unreliable signal.
The ease of use and installation of the software make this the wireless product for the non-professional. As long as you follow the directions it installs without a problem. The installation software will set the security on the wireless network, so if you are setting up an unsecure network you will need to watch for and skip that step.
Even with these short falls this is the best and easiest to install and use without a networking degree.
What's great about it: The wireless management software is great, easy to install and use.
What's not so great: Does not have the power to handle interferance over long range.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Bought this for a friend who needed wireless connection in a USB footprint. Works well (about 30' away, through two walls) and meets their needs. Little more expensive, but worth it in my opinion.
What's great about it: Easy installation, Linksys reliability
What's not so great: price a little higher than other brands

I don't know what the story is with this technology. This was the second USB-type Wireless G adapter I bought. It proved to be little better than the no-name knockoff I returned.
I had intended this to be used for a computer in my entertainment room for driving Hulu - HA, what a joke. Don't even try something like that. This is supposedly a G, but the thruput I got was typical of an old A/B wireless. *Much* worse than the reception from a typical notebook computer. If you're in the same room as your wireless router you'll get passable thruput, but otherwise forget it.
Hopefully there's something out there better than this stinky-poo thing.
What's great about it: Reasonably easy to set up, compact
What's not so great: Lousy reception, poor thruput

I must be the kid in the candy store that got the defective piece. I have had this compact wireless USB adapter for a little over a year and yet to have one problem with it. It is used on a desktop computer that resides about 30 feet from the router. There has never been a problem It is in constant use as there are three kids who have on-line research almost daily and they also use it to download videos, music, play games and all the typical fan-fare of high school age kids.
I have recommended to friends and to family and have not heard from anyone that it does not work as planned.
What's great about it: Easy to set up, great price when found on sale, softward downloaded easily enough
What's not so great: Nothing found so far

I have owned Linksys products for years now without any problems. I have a Linksys Wireless-G router and a Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter and these work together perfectly.
I bought this Linksys Wireless-G Compact USB Adapter because I needed to connect a desktop but the computer does not have any available PCI slots. I originally was going to purchase the "non-compact" USB adapter but I couldn't find it in the store.
I had read the lousy reviews about this product but thought these might have been due to "user error" -- BIG MISTAKE!!!!!
The problem with this compact USB adapter is it simply doesn't pick up a wireless signal very well. I was trying to connect to a wireless router less than 30 feet away and I had to unplug and then re-plug this USB "pen" adapter a number of times just for it to see my network. The best it would see it was at a pitiful 24% signal strength. My PCI adapter on another computer even further away sees the network at 100% strength.
This compact adapter did not see any other available networks except mine, even though my Acer laptop (with a built-in wireless connection) can see 8 networks when placed in the identical location.
I am afraid Linksys sacrificed reception quality for the sake of compactness.
Do not buy this adapter; otherwise you will be taking it back to Best Buy just like me.
What's great about it: Nothing
What's not so great: Extremely poor receiver

I bought this to use for my desktop computer (at the time a Dell 5100). I've used it in two different computers now and honestly, the thing is a piece of junk. It will find signals, but will not connect to them. I end up having to restart my computer about every 20 minutes just to stay logged on and even then, when I try to reconnect, I basically have to offer a sacrifice to the internet gods in order to get it to work properly. My router is only about 40 feet from the connector, yet the strongest signal I get is about 1-2 bars. It LOVES to randomly drop the signal and never allow you back on. If I still had the receipt, I'd take it back for a refund, but alas I don't. Right now, it hasn't connected since last night and even after I restarted my computer, it won't work. DON'T BUY THIS!!!

Installed this adapter on an XP-SP3 32-bit system, AMD Athlon 64 X2, 1.5GB RAM, Biostar K8M800 Micro AM2 board. Installation failed halfway through, when it finally did install, it wouldn't find my network, yet the computer right next to it was being bombarded with an 80% signal (router is behind walls). This was purchased to replace an overheated Netgear WG111v2 (another worthless adapter but that's another review.)
It connects when it wants, and when it does, it never gets higher than 50% signal, while another Netgear WG111v2 on the next computer gets 80%. Constantly drops signal. Router is a Linksys WRT54GS, and connects fine to the netgear and a Dell laptop (intel/broadcom), yet this adapter fails to even find the signal.
Will be returning this tomorrow, hopefully getting one that will actually work. If not, I will be shopping elsewhere, as returns are all I seem to get.
What's great about it: Not a thing
What's not so great: Connectivity, ease of use, high frustration levels.

This piece of junk gave me nothing but problems. I have a brand new gateway desktop with Windows Vista Home Premium. I fought with this thing from a Friday afternoon when I bought it to Sunday, all the while with intermittent connectivity. Then came Monday. I reestablished connectivity after it had dropped the signal for the thousandth time then it sent my computer into an infinite crash loop. I though I could trust a name like Linksys. Now I see that the are putting out garbage.
What's not so great: Nothing but problems right out of the box
