What's great about it: Energy Efficient, Quiet, Easy To Use, CLEAN Clothing!
What's not so great: None!
I am not going to bore you with all of the complicated terms you usually find with most appliance reviews, I'm going to simply give you the opinion of a stay-at-home mom and housewife.
I chose the Whirlpool Duet Sport because of the cost, the fact that it has an Energy Star rating and I heard it was a good, quality washing machine (and my old washing machine had bitten the dust) I assumed this new machine would get the job done, but I had no idea the surprises I was in for!
This machine has many different cycles to choose from. They are clearly marked, easy to set and easy to understand. Some examples are "Heavy Duty", "Quick Wash" and "Whitest Whites." You need not choose water levels, spin strength or anything....just set the dial and the machine does all of the guesswork for you!
You put your detergent, fabric softerer and bleach into a slide-out drawer beforehand, each compartment is clearly labeled. You choose your setting with the dial, push two buttons and viola, your off to the washes! The Duet only uses enough water to saturate clothes, by turning the drum, adding a bit of water, turning some more, adding a bit more water, until clothing is saturated, but not drowing in a wasteful drum filled with water. The machine washes quitely and spins quietly.....no more thump-thump-thumping of an off-balanced drum!
Once the laundry is finished....this is when you will be wow'ed...not only is this machine easy-to-use, energy and water efficient and quiet, it cleans clothing like you would not believe! Our clothing came out amazingly clean, looking nearly new and smelling cleaner and fresher than any other machine I have used!
The biggest surprise was the "Whitest Whites" cycle. I washed a white load WITHOUT bleach and our socks came out sparkling white! The next time I did whites, I actually used bleach and was shocked.....our white clothes came out looking brand new!
I cannot say enough about the Whirlpool Duet Sport, except for not letting the name fool you. We have a family of five and can still do large loads and have everyone's laundry done in an afternoon! Now that's effeciency!
I recommend this washer to every family out there....you'll love it!

What's not so great: Doesn't work.
I've had this washer for four months and it needs the sub cntrl computer replaced. Called Whilpool and it took a week to get someone out here to look at it. He ordered the part and he said it would take a week and a half to get here. Still hasn't arrived so I called the tech service to track the part and found out it is back ordered for a few more weeks. So I figure by the the time the part arrives and the tech is rescheduled it will be a month since the thing broke down. All I can say is Whilpool's repair service is horrible and I will not buy another product made by them.

What's great about it: amount of water used per load
What's not so great: parts and repair
When my top loading washer/dryer broke after 18 years I decided to purchase a Whirlpool front loader set of electric appliances. As soon as my warrantee expired on my washer I got the F11 code. After a $300 repair bill I began washing clothes only to get another F11 code with the first load. Now Whirlpool diagnostics inform that I need another part costing $269 plus install fees. They could not guarantee that it would work after this fix. In addition, any electric boards changed for repair had only a 30 day guarantee. I decided to stop the ridiculous money drain and look for other more realistic options. If I would have known the rate of success and cost of repair, I would have saved the initial $300 I spent and put it towards a new top loader which have longevity and parts are half the cost when repairs are needed. These front loaders washers are great for water efficiency and ergonomic function, but a top loader washer doesn't require bending or an extra $250 for a stand. They are built with better engineering principles and water efficiency models are now available. If you have a similar malfunction I suggest that you don't repair your machine because it will be a money pit. It would be smarter to save your money and either purchase a used working front loader (lots available on Craigslist) or invest in a new top loader. When looking for a used replacement for front loader look for one that is 2 years old or newer because if you have a repair issue that requires more than 1 part, Whirlpool will be more apt to send the subsequent parts for repair Free.

What's great about it: nothing
What's not so great: everything
Stay away from the whirlpool duet sport washing machines. i purchased one in march 2007 and have had nothing but problems. 2 months old, the door locked on it and it gave me an f-28 error code. couldnt get the door open for a week. called whirpool, they sent a & e factory service out. it needed a new computer chip and motherboard and door lock control. 2 months old!!!! since then, ive had the geek squad in my house 3 times cause the stupid thing will just shut off right in the middle of a cycle! no matter what the load size! the the tech replaced all of the computer chips and motherboard on it again, but still cant complete a cycle. this piece of junk has been nothing but a headache. luckily had the extended warranty with the lemon replacement. defanitely wont be getting a whirlpool again, thats for sure.

What's great about it: good price
What's not so great: didn't run when plugged in, cracked dispenser panel
It's very disappointing when you install a new washer, load the laundry & soap to test it and find a cracked dispenser panel hidden by the pull out dispenser. Then when you hit the power button and nothing happens is not a good sign of what should be a quality product from a name brand company. It's very bad when something brand new doesn't work and you have to call for someone to fix it before you can use it. To top it all off, after I got it installed we got a flyer for an off brand that beat the price of this one! I can't wait to get my backordered matching gas dryer.

What's great about it: efficiency
What's not so great: making sure the rubber seal gets dried off
i wasn't in the market for a new washer, but when our dryer went, we found that it might be more effiecient for us to buy a new washer too. our top loader took forever and the clothes came out wet. this spins more water out of the clothes, and it means less time in the dryer. we are also on a well and septic system, and we are using less water and putting less into our septic as well. still getting used to having to wipe down the rubber seal to make sure it doesn't smell moldy, but i will gladly do it for the amount of time and energy this unit has saved me. would definitely recommend this unit. it's much quieter too. our house is small, and the old washer used to make so much noise. i forget this one is running! hope this helps....

What's not so great: loud
I find it interesting that quite a few people find this washer to be incredibly loud, while others call it quiet. I am another of someone who spent a lot of time trying to balance the machine under the belief that the noise was coming from improper setup. But it doesn't matter. This machine is loud when its washing and gets ridiculously loud during a spin. Temperature, clothing load, ambient humidity . . . it doesn't matter this machine is loud. When I consulted a salesperson at HHGregg he agreed that the Duet Sport was loud (poorly insulated, no vibration dampening).
If you want a good quality washer that is efficient and value-priced; the Duet Sport is a good choice. If you plan to sleep within 20 feet of it . . . buy a different washer.

What's great about it: Met all expectations then some
What's not so great: Nothing so far
I've had the Duet washer for a month and have been very happy with it. The Best Buy delivery crew were terrific and brought it to my second floor closet with no problems and didn't break a sweat. This is the first washer I've bought since 1982 and I'm delighted so far. The local Sears store salesman told me that all the sales people purchased the Whirlpool Duet units and were very happy with them so that was good enough for me. Fearing vibration throughout the floor since it's on the second floor of my home, I've found it to be very quiet even when spinning at 1500 rpm. The clothes come out of the washer barely damp. This is a well designed washer.

What's great about it: Nothing great other than easy to use
What's not so great: Only lasted 3 years
This Whirlpool Duet is an absolute piece of junk! I bought it just over 3 years ago and got my first "f11" code. Called whirlpool and was told they would have to send a technician to diagnose the problem, but it was probably the computer. Technician cost $125 to tell you what is wrong, parts easily $200 plus, without labor. In other words you can by a nice top loader for the price to fix this piece of junk. It seems all the front loaders are designed with so many gizmos someone forgot to think how long they will last.
Bottom line, they may look nice, but I don't need a Ferrari to wash my cloths. Stick with the good old top loader, they are more reliable and cost much less.

What's great about it: Clean Wash, Smooth & Quiet, Drys Clothes, Great With Bulky Items, Fantastic Price
What's not so great: LongCycle, Poor Users Manual
I am extremely pleased with with this product and would recommend it to others. I'm very picky about my laundry and this machine produces excellent results. My only disappointment its that Quick Wash isn't quick and does not work with a medium sized load or larger. I installed the machine myself on a tile floor and had no problems leveling. This machine balances the loads automaticly before spin for smoothe spin cycles. Since the door completely seals when closed, I leave it open between uses to allow the tub to dry and asure freshness of the next load. Excellent price at BestBuy.

What's great about it: Pretty simple to figure out
What's not so great: Read what I wrote
I am a single dad of 2 younger boys, the day came when the 16 yr old washer and dryer bit the dust. My thinking was, I am sure washers and dryers are more efficient and better then 16 yrs ago. I wanted whirlpool because they are a main employer in our area. I did read all the consumer reviews (good and bad) that I could find on this washer and dryer before purchasing. Best Buy had 0% for 18 month, plus provided the pedistals for both washer and dryer for 1 penny each, which was also a great deal. After a couple of months both machines work great, very quite compared to what I had. I notice less water being used and drying time is cut way down, which saves money in the long run. Clothes are very clean. A negative I have is that the spin cycle is super fast and have found the washer had litterally moved it self forward like 3 feet and sometimes has moved around some. Not sure if it's the pedistals or what, my floor and the machine is set level. I am sure there is an easy explaination for this and in no way should keep any one from considering the pair. Another thing that I did not anticipate on is endless entertainment for my 2 cats, they love to watch the clothes moving around in the washer and dryer, who would of ever thought that.
One of the reviews I read said "I look forward to doing laundry now" when I first read that, I am like this is the washer and dryer for me! There is some truth to that quote, even after a couple of months, I look forward to doing the laundry, it is the folding that I can't stand to do now!

As i guy i just stuff as many cloths in the washer as i can and turn it on. This machine is a no brainer. Cloths come out much cleaner then our old set. Im going on 9 months with this set and have had no problems at all. My recommendation is to use about 1/8 of the HE soap on your first couple loads. You will be suprised at how much soap is still in your cloths from the other washers. I give 2 thumbs up for this set, we love it. Sorry about the people that had problems with their sets. You are probably just unlucky.

What's great about it: Nice look
What's not so great: Will not last
For those who give good reviews about this Whirlpool washer Duet Sport, I was wondering how long they have owned it…..I wish them the best of luck. I have searched a few websites and I found so many people with bad experience with this particular washer and I was one of them.
I thought it was my bad luck to get a ‘lemon’ washer but I guess I am not. Do NOT buy Whirlpool Duet Sport WFW8300S . I had it for a little over a year and it only took two washes to break it. Of course, I did not think to get extended warranty because I did not expect it will break so fast - so if you still want to buy it, make sure you get extended warranty with the option to replace your washer because there is a chance that it will not be fixable.
When I called Whirlpool to fix my washer, they will certainly direct you to A&E Factory Service. DO NOT let them fix your appliances. They have less than desirable service. If you can find other service companies, I strongly suggest to use them.
It has already been more than a month, from the first time I made the service call to Whirlpool and the washer is still broken. The first technician from A&E came really late and he did more talk than work. He diagnosed something is wrong with the control board , so he needed to order it. We waited for a week and it turned out that Whirlpool ordered the wrong parts two times, which delayed the service a few more weeks.
I complained to Whirlpool until I don’t know how many times I already did it. The first person who took my call easily said that A&E has 90 days to fix my washer but I don’t have 90 days without washer!! Whirlpool rep told me that she would call me back but she never did, or they will transfer me to A&E - and the company I need to talk to is Whirlpool!
If you plan on stacking the Duet Sport washer & dryer, be very aware that you will need to have the stack kit for this model. So, if one is broken (i.e.: washer) and then you want to replace it with a different brand you will have to get rid both of them.
Three parts were replaced, the washer is still not working. It keeps giving ‘F28’ error code. I lost my patience then I bought a brand new washer (not Whirlpool). I know I have spent more money but I don’t want any headache.
My experience from this is - Whirlpool (Duet Sport washer) and A&E Factory Service are not good combination.
Best of luck for your appliance hunting.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
