What's great about it: I got an open one for $60
What's not so great: None
This is a great sub for the money. They are on clearance in my area ($86) but I got an open box that someone returned for $60. I watched Transformers last night and this sub added so much to the sound that I didnt know existed. Plus it matches my Insignia bookshelves speakers very well and also my Boston center speaker. I keep getting great things from Best Buy.

What's not so great: it was not on sale
Can ask for more?, for $124 does alot for my harman kardon. No need to spend $400 for one of this subwoofer. I dont need not complaint from others apartments. It you can afford to buy a $400-$500, well just buy it.

What's great about it: For the money, this sub has a great sound
What's not so great: none
I bought this sub almost a year ago and the lows for my surround sound are very good. For 100 Watts and the cheap price this sub is the best value in my opinion for someone not wanting to spend several hundreds of dollars. I believe you get what you pay for in most audio equipment and this item surpassed my expectations. For a house shaking sub for the more intense movie-goer i would suggest spending more $$.

What's great about it: compact
What's not so great: it must be turnd off when not in use
this product puts out good sound, with a hard hitting base that will rumdle any room. the size off it makes it easy to hide. over all for the price i don't think it can be beat.

What's great about it: For the price, this is great
What's not so great: None
I added new Yamaha speakers including this inexpensive powered subwoofer to a decent 15 year old stereo system, and it sounds are greatly improved. I will probably keep the speakers when I upgrade the receiver.

What's great about it: Full bass, compact size
What's not so great: 2-way crossover not enough
In the $100-$150 range it's hard to beat this Yamaha. The comparable Sony/MTX/Advent etc. don't have the features, build quality, or sound. The volume needs to be adjusted just right, so make sure to do sound trials with DVD, CDs, anything you might use it with. Placement also has a big impact...I set it against the TV wall close to the adjacent, and it really rocks the room. Only letdown is the 2-way crossover...needs a continuous adjustment to dial in with fronts.

What's not so great: no phase control
Best Sub for under $350. I tried 2 other subs before getting the Yamaha. With a good receiver this sub sounds great!!! Perfect for small to medium size rooms.

What's great about it: An awesome sound from such a reasonable price
What's not so great: Wish they would come with cables!
Was alittle hesitant with this product after reading both good and not so good reviews. However the good outweighed the not so good and I decided to give it a try. Well let me tell you, I'm glad I did. The power and incredible sound that came out of this sub just blew me away. I can't describe the difference it made in my system . Please don't waste your money on those very expensive subs that will only bring out just a minor difference in sound and quality. I really love this item and highly recomend this to anyone who wants to put a real kick in there home theater sound. I quaruntee you will not be dissapointed.

What's great about it: low price ok sound
What's not so great: low bass isnt very good
i got this sub with a pioneer VSX-517 home theatre receiver and i really like how this sub sounds. it dosent have very low bass but for $125 you cant go wrong. This works well as a home theatre sub but when you listen to music that has a lot of bass or run bass testers or sub testers it dosent do very well. a friend of mine has a velodyne subwoofer and when i compared this sub to his it wasnt as good sounding down low. I was first disapointed with the sub when i listened to it in the store but then realized that people would beat up the subs in the store by turning them up super loud. Even after hearing it in the store i still bought it. After it was hooked up it sounded so much better than in the store. This isnt the greatest subwoofer but for the money you cant go wrong. Overall pretty good sub if you dont feel like spending $2000 on a home theatre.

What's great about it: Price, Smaller Footprint
What's not so great: Lack of crossover frequency selection
After reading the reviews for this item, I must say I was very skeptical about this purchase, but I took a chance and took advantage of the 30 day return policy of Best Buy. After getting this subwoofer home, and properly setting it up, I was VERY surprised. This is not a bad little sub. It is not a Klipsch unit by any means, but the way I figure it, if you are looking for a a sub in this price range then you do not expect the best quality. This is a nice addition to my Bose 201 bookshelf speakers, the bass can become muddy if you turn the volume on the sub to high, set the sub at mid level, and it is fine.

What's great about it: Looks, size, price and quality upgrade for home theater
What's not so great: Can't hear any!
This Yamaha is now the heartbeat to an old Advent Heritage 5 speaker home theater. Movies & Sports are back with great sound thanks to this inexpensive $99. Yamaha subwoofer. Trust this review, don't waste your money!

What's great about it: Low price
What's not so great: Bottoms out at low frequency, not much power
I bought this sub because I was trying to save some cash and I was already going over my budget with my new 46" LCD and other home theater components. I have known Yamaha to be a good brand in the past, so I figured I would give it a try......but you get what you pay for. This sub really struggles with the lower, deeper bass, which is really what I was wanting for my home theater. At higher volumes it quickly distorts. If the volume is kept lower and you want a bit more full sound to support your Highs and mids at a very low cost, then try this. If you can spring the extra cash for something better do it. Luckily for me the Klipsch 10" went on sell the next day, and I upgraded to that for only a $100 more. I am soooo much happier, and so is my wife and she usually could care less about audio. I should have expected this performance for the price, but I was hopeful.

What's great about it: Nice Sound
I have a Sony surround system that was running a little tower woofer powered from the speaker outputs on my receiver. Replacing that with this 10" woofer made a WORLD of difference. It is probably the combination of a bigger woofer and the fact that it's a powered sub, but this thing is AWESOME! I'm guessing that the people that wrote negative reviews either don't have a big enough amp/receiver or are REALLY picky, because I am a musician with a discerning ear and I love this thing. It is JUST what my surround sound needed!

What's great about it: somewhat powerful
What's not so great: poor sound quality, distorts easily, can't produce deep satisfying bass
I have a yamaha surround system in my room. I bought it 4 years ago. I have a 6inch 60 watt sub that sounds awesome. Sounds like a 100 watt sub and is rich with clean clear bass. I thought that yamaha was one of the best because of the subs i have heard from them. But my 6inch sub just didn't output enough power at high volumes even though it sounded great at lower volumes. So when i saw this huge sub online from yamaha i thought to myself that it would be rich and deep in bass to make up for it's low power consumption. Boy was i wrong. This subwoofer sounds like crawp and sounds more forceful than rich. It probably could have been fixed with a frequency knob but that wasn't there either. Long story short i returned this sub the very next day because i need quality not just power. Yes it has some power but just doesn't sound good.

I bought this sub along with my 6.1 receiver, my two tower speakers and 4 satellite speakers and it compliments the whole setup very nicely. With music it adds the perfect boom and kick, and with video games and movies it fills them out and makes them seem real.

Reviewing strictly on cost, this is an excellent speaker. Because it is very boomy and bottoms out easily, it will take some time to set up with your system to find the right volume, channel level and range. But, we are talking about a $100 sub here. If you have a low end theater, or just want some more kick for gaming, this is the speaker for you. It is not a very good music sub, because it does not reproduce low notes well. Set your crossover to a higher frequency (150 hz works well for me), turn the volume on the sub to about halfway, and enjoy.
