What's great about it: Easy to set up
What's not so great: No problems so far.
I received this remote as a Christmas gift and so far I have no complaints. I set up my entire home entertainment system with it (Plasma TV, Receiver, Satellite DVR and Blu-Ray DVD). The program that comes with the remote walks you through setting up each component. In no time I was able to control all my components. This remote is a must have for anyone who has to deal with using more than one remote.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Controls everything! Cable, Surround Sound, DVD, Electric Fire Place, etc....the review that says it will not connect with a Scientic Atlanta 8300 HD.....it connected with mine with ease. I select Watch TV, it selects the right input, correct listening mode on surround sound etc....same with the DVD player. Great remote for the price...you may be able to get a little more out of a $200 remote but when you can spend $50 and have it do everything, why not just spend $50. GREAT DEAL!

I got this for Christmas and I love it! It controls my TV, surround sound, and Directv DRV. It is very easy to use. I really like the 1-touch buttons. This allows you to push one button to watch a DVD and the remote sets everything up. Everyone should own something like this!!

What's great about it: Easy to use...actually works.
What's not so great: Not updated on all electronics...(namely Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HD)
I picked up this remote on Dec 26th after finding out my remote from my cable provider wouldn't work with our new TV or DVD. What we got as a bonus was a remote that controlled the home theater system as well. This is a great remote without costing the price of a Blue Ray player. Programming with the computer is far easier than searching for codes and hoping you have the one that actually performs all the functions on a specific device. Another great product from Logitech.

What's not so great: Slightly hard to setup but perfect after that
This remote was on sale so I bought it with low expectations. The setup process was a pain at first but once I got used to the software it was simple and friendly to work with. Once it was all set, however, this remote is AMAZING!

well when i originally looked up the logitech harmony, i was not so thrilled about spending upwards of $500 for a remote that "might" solve my problem. when i saw this one on sale i decided to go for it and I was amazed at all that it can do. i recently lost (if you can call dropping your remote in to a glass full of soda lost) the remote that controlled my surround sound. With the harmony 550 I was able to control everything my old remote was able to control. I can change the surround sound settings, change the imputs, fix the subwoofer level and all that good stuff. The one button feature is great. i can simply hit watch tv and my projector, direct tv box and surround sound will turn on and everything is in the correct setting.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Very easy to set up, excellent price, does exactly what I want it to do
What's not so great: Not rechargable, probably short battery life
Remote just arrived today and so far I'm very pleased. Downloaded latest software from Logitech (it was newer than the CD included w/ the remote), installed on the PC, and the setup wizard walks you through the process of setting up all your electronics. Within minutes I had my TV, audio receiver, satellite DVR receiver, game console, and BluRay player setup on the remote and working just fine.
Extremely easy to use. Preset "activities" let you just click a single button to say "Watch a DVD" and it turns everything on you need for that function (not to mention turns OFF equipment you don't need for that) including swapping to the correct input etc. Very "smart" remote, lightweight and good ergonomics. With the 50% off deal on this right now, you just can't beat this for a good all-in-one remote. Highly recommended to anyone looking to simplify your home theater setup. Much cheaper than other Harmony remotes, but this did exactly what I need at a fraction of the cost.

I am not the biggest Logitech fan but I wanted to upgrade my R5 universal remote since the macropower function was not perfect. So far this has been a great remote especially after customizing it (it took me about 2 days to have everything perfect). The best thing about the remote is its simplicity of use after set up which makes wife happy!!

What's not so great: Takes some time to set it up just right
This is the second logitech remote I have purchased. I have an 880 for my living room. This one is for the bedroom. Just like my other one it works great. It does take some time to tweak it so it works just right but I also heavily customized the buttons on the remote so it does exactly what I want. and it does just that, Exactly what I want. The remote is great, it gets ride of clutter, no more trying to find this or that remote in the dark, and it makes using tv, sat, and dvd a breeze. as for some saying how the buttons wear out, get the service plan and if anything goes wrong and I do mean anything it gets replaced. Thats right they do not even try to fix your old one best buy simply replaces it, even for sticky buttons. I had to do this with my 880 and best buy makes it very simple.

What's great about it: Simplifies controlling stereo and tv for various features
What's not so great: Buttons wear out after about two years
My wife could never figure out how to set up our system to watch TV or listen to CD's or watch DVD's. Along came the Harmony 550. One touch of a button and all the right equipment turns on for whatever it is she wants to do. (e.g. to watch TV we push the "watch tv" button and the tv turns on, selects the right input, the amplifier turns on and selects the right input and the cable box turns on). It's great. But, after about two years the buttons started to act up. Several buttons have to be pressed really hard to function and one button has gotten to the point that it won't work at all. So much for a $125 investment only lasting for two years! And Logitech won't stand behind it!
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's not so great: Does not replace all of my 4 remote controllers 100%
I was very nervious about spending $100 on a remote. I seen others for a lot less in the range of $15-$40. I dedided to splurge since this remote was half off. I also purchased the Harmony 510 , not on sale . But reading reviews for other consumers and doing a litttle research on the net. I came to the conclusion that the Harmony 550 was a better deal and for half the price.
I recently purchase a 58" plasma, blue-ray and a Yamaha home theater system at Best Buy. I was amassed at how simple/fast it was to set up the remote.
I strongly recommend this remote to all that have 2-4 remotes. Buy now it's still on sale, half off .
One button operation, this is a great tool
BUY, BUY BUY..................

Bought this to replace my Sony Remote Commander. I am SO glade that I did! Got it on sale for $50 (cheaper than I bought the Sony, 7 years ago!). The Set up was as easy as it could be! Put the DVD in you computer and the setup and the setup guides you right through...Super intuitive!

I bought this to reduce the clutter of remotes. It is true that it takes longer to pull each device and look behind it for the model numbers than it took to program to the thing! I like how the remote troubleshoots and "fixes" errors.
So impressed i think i will buy the 890 model for the home theater as that works on RF... no line of sight needed to execute a command. Best Buy on line with pick up at the store. Very efficient and a most excellent price of $49!

What's great about it: Eliminates the need for multiple remotes, and endless customizations
What's not so great: Testing out the configurations you program into it...but this is what makes it great in the first place
This product is just what I have been looking for for years and the price was worth it.
I have a VERY cheap off brand DVD player that would not work with other 'universal' remotes, but this remote finally manages to control it. Out of every remote that I have EVER owned, none has had the logical placement of buttons/functions that this one does. All similar tasks are grouped together, eliminating your finger from having to travel all over the remote to perform a task (yes I know how lazy that sounds).
Beyond allowing you to control the functions of other remotes, you can also re-map the buttons to your own liking; and if the button you want to re-map is not found on this remote, you simply program it to be found in the small screen above the buttons. Using this function alone, I was able to place all of my favorite tasks together and eliminate those that I do not ever use.
The ability to use 'activities' buttons on this remote allows people not familiar with your particular stereo setup to turn on the necessary components (in the order you want) and set the inputs where they need to be, all in the press of one button. And to turn them off is even easier; one button and everything shuts off.
The 'Setup Wizard' is easy enough to get you on your feet quickly with the basic commands set up, but more than likely you will find yourself endlessly tweaking your configurations. This can get a little tiresome, but I can't think of any way that they could have made it any easier...and in the long run, this is really why you bought the remote in the first place.
I have had my remote for a few months now and have only run into a few glitches, but I am really hoping that this piece of equipment is durable enought to last for a long while.

I have tried universal remotes before, even expensive ones, and I have always been disappointed. The Logitech 550 was so easy to set up I did not beleive it could work until I used it on every piece of A/V I own.
You type all your equipment model numbers into your PC, and it loads all the codes for you. Very Easy to set up!

I bought this remote due to brother in law had the color version that costs hundreds of dollars. This remote works great. If you don't care about the flash or bling, this remote is for you. It can do all the fetures of the expensive ones at over 3/4 of the price. I would recomend this product to everyone. the help button is great when something does not come on. The oline features are great help to setup the remote anyway you want.

This remote was very easy to set up and took only 5 minutes. It is now easy for everyone to turn on our home theater, even the babysitter. The only issue I have with the remote is the # buttons. They are kind of small for those of us with big fingers.

this is by far the easiest remote to setup no more trying to find your code you install a program in your computer tell it what devices you have and plug it in. now i have directtv and it knows what buttons i needed put the extra buttons not on the remote itself into the screen like the List for programs i recorded and the 4 color buttons. i have even changed some buttons around for my personal touch when listening to my music. have a yamaha receiver with ipod dock this controls them. the number buttons are a bit small anyone with big fingers could have a problem, other than that this remote is the best universal remote i have ever owned and the first that has controlled all my devices also really nice feeling in your hand. i would buy this all over again if i had to

After getting a new TV a month ago I put my Rewardzone points toward this remote. Hooked up to the TV is a DVR, DVD home theater system and two gaming consoles. This remote handles all of these with ease. This is the first time I've dealt with a universal remote so I went back several times and made adjustments which could not have been easier. Basically I was able to go back to the computer, hook up the remote, make a change and get back to the TV during a regular commercial break! When we got the new TV along with the newer DVR that comes with HD/Digital cable service it didn't take long for my wife to start calling me at work fussing about why the TV wouldn't do what she wanted it to do. This remote solves all these problems. i.e. want to watch TV...press "watch TV".....want to play a DVD?....press "watch DVD"...want to play Wii?....press "play Wii"....it's that simple!
For this price.....these could make great Christmas gifts!
