What's great about it: Easy set up, works great, compatablity, even looks nice
What's not so great: none so far
"This remote is great, stop thinking about it and just get it already.
For myself, there was no real need to spend double the money on the higher models. This one performs perfectly, on all my Devices: Sony TV, Sony DVD, Scientific Atlanta DVR Cable Box, Onkyo 605 Reciever. The only thing it doesn't work on is my Nintendo Wii, because that is Bluetooth. No worries though, because that is turned on from the Wiimote(which you need to play the game anyway).
Setting up all the Activities, is what makes Switching Inputs on the TV and Receiver a thing of the past. My wife, can handle the task of switching between Movies, TV and Wii, by only pressing one button and without having to ask for my help.
The computer based interface, is pretty good, and once learned you can get into more involved settings.
I'm even considerring changing my Dimmer to a remote based one, so that can dim the lights when the "Watch DVD" button is pressed. I can't help wanting more devices to control with a single button.
This remote works great, get it now and stop fiddling around with all those remotes and rememberring what input goes with what device."

"So I had a remote for my TV, DVD player, FIOS box, and my LG mini-system. I got this remote, and the descriptions don't lie. The setup on the computer is a breeze, and as long as you know your model numbers, the software does the rest. There were a few hiccups as far as customizing buttons (volume button not working for mini system, DVR button not working for FIOS), but the remote learns your original remote's buttons, so with a few simple mouse clicks and one press of a button on the remote, I was done. I am so glad to hide away my old remotes and just keep this one out. And it's not bad looking either..."

"I was very impressed with the abilities of this remote. I was able to successfully program my Samsung HDTV, Yamaha Receiver, Comcast DVR, Pioneer DVD player, Psyclone HDMI switch, and Xbox 360. I was even able to add a macro to set up my system for viewing online content from my computer. The software was very user friendly and highly customizable. For my setup, I can't think of any reason why I would need another remote anytime soon!"

What's not so great: Somewhat slow to upload your program to the remote, Won't control my Wii
"I bought this remote yesterday after debating between the 550 and the Xbox 360 model. I chose the 550 because I like the color and overall appearance better, and because I really don't use my Xbox 360 except for playing games. If the remote didn't have complete Xbox 360 control (media center, etc.) it wouldn't be a big deal to me. I had it programmed in about 15 minutes. I tested it out and it worked ALMOST perfectly, but not quite. When turning on my system it wouldn't put the TV on the correct input, and I had to use the "help" feature. I hooked it back up and ran through the troubleshooting steps and successfully corrected the problem on the first try. I spent a few more minutes fine tuning activities and remote settings. I had to set up one new command in the activities settings. I've spent close to an hour altogether getting it set up just right.
I've read other reviews that said the software is very difficult to use or that it doesn't work right on a Mac. My Mac is running OS X 10.4.11 and the software loaded and ran without a problem and was very easy to use. I will admit that it's a bit slow to upload your program to the remote, but it's not so slow as to warrant a reduction in the overall rating. It probably takes about 2 to 3 minutes. I could see where it would be frustrating if your internet connection is down or if you don't have a high-speed connection.
The 550 has complete control over my Xbox 360. I don't see any benefit in going with the Xbox 360 model, unless you like the color better or if it's on sale for less. I don't see how it would be any harder or easier to use.
Lastly, the 550 will not control my Nintendo Wii, but because the Wii uses Bluetooth I didn't fault it for this since it's a different kind of connection."

"This product cis great it works perfectly with all of my components. My wife and kids can cwork it and enjoy it. It is built very sturdy. Easy to use. IT works when it is not pointed directly at your components. The setup is fairly easy it takes some time to get it just right exactly how you want but its worth the time. Customer service is awesome. If cyou cant get something to work how you want call em up They fix it over the internet. Just like that all you do is press update remote. Good to Go"

"After juggling 4 remotes to watch TV and needing a cheat sheet to change the channel; I decided to get universal remote. I bought the Harmony 550 on a friends recommendation. I wish I had bought it sooner.
Setup: 20 to 30 mins. I wrote down my list of devices, picked my activities (Watch TV, Watch DVD, Watch VCR, Play Playstation...), answered the prompts and hit done. I messed one activity up (assigned the output to the wrong one) and had to modify (easy to do). Hit done, downloaded from PC to device and life was great.
Use: EASY. Choose and activity, the remote knows what to do. Now with the "Watch TV" Activity, it turns on the TV, cable DVR, and Receiver. Channel change buttons change the cable box, volumn adjusts the Receiver, pause/play/record runs the DVR with no user action needed other then hitting the botton. Hit the the power button, it shuts everything off. So easy my 4 year old can do it.
Get one today."

"This is absolutly the best remote on the market, I know it is a little expensive for a remote, but if you are currently switching between several different remotes to control you satellite, av reciever, tv, HD tuner, ect.. this is your answer. No more annoying switching back and fourth, remembering what remote you need for what, its really all you need. The set up was very easy, just be sure if your satellite reciever is in a different room than the room you will be using the remote in, you will need to relocate the satellite reciever to the room you are using the remote in."

"I purchased this product after I bought all new home theater equipment to eliminate all the remotes. This thing was setup in about 20 minutes and took a little fine tuning after that with the surround sound reciever to get the inputs right but other then that this is the best purchase i have made with my home theater system. If your thinking about buying this don't hesitate. I was also impressed with the level of service i recieved at my local Best Buy store."

"Recently bought the Dynex 32" LCD TV and the LG Home theater system to use with our Satellite system. None of the remotes would control any of the other components. This made it a mess. So after looking around this seemed to be the only chance I had.
It worked perfectly! Plugged it in, programmed it had to make a few minor on device changes to the programming and flawless. I love that I can choose "Watch PVR" and it will turn on the devices on and switch them to their appropriate settings. Simple and it works. WOW!"

"This is my first major remote purchase, I got it for the ease of setup and the fact that I have like 7 different things that I need to control. It only takes a few minutes to set up after everything is updated and installed, it is REAL simple to use. It has EVERY thing you could ever buy on here too.
My only quams though is that it can not control my ps3 or wii, now I already have the remotes for both of them so it doesn't matter, its just the point.
I also enjoy have buttons galor to press, this remote is simple and does not have all the extra little buttons that each individual remote has so I still find myself using them to change channels and setting the surround sound to match the type of movie I am watching anyway."

"I purchased this remote within the past week. The setup wizard is pretty cut & dry...and very intuitive. I had no problems finding the models for which I was going to control with the remote. The only issue I came across was doing a little troubleshooting after the "activities" were set and some of the devices didnt work perfectly.
BUT
THe remote itself fixes its own problems...and within a minute or two I was able to use everything the way I wanted.
Love the remote. Great for the bedroom. Great overall."

"This remote does everything I want it to do and more. Very concise and easy to understand instructions included. When logged on to website, program walks you through a very thorough process. Set up took only about 15 minutes to include all my components. Buttons on this unit easier to locate w/o looking than pricier units.
Very nice, attractive styling is a pleasant addition to home decor!!"
