worse universal remote ever

What's great about it: nothing
What's not so great: when you press the numbers on the keypad the do not work
"We have had a few universal remotes and this one is by far the worse as it does not seem to work. When you press the buttons they do not work. Especially on the number key pads. Also the buttons are so small to press that it is hard to change chanels or pick an activity. I defnitely would not recommend this remote."

What's great about it: Works Through Cabinets
What's not so great: Durability & Charging
"I have to say that I recommend this product for its purpose but the back cover tabs have almost all broken with normal access to battery when problems have occurred. I have had to reprogram the remote for time maintenance (hasn't kept accurate time for some reason) several times and have had difficulty getting the remote to charge consistently. It seems as though the charge posts are not always responsive. I would recommend the supplemental warranty as I may be replacing the remote (after 15 months-just over the 12 month warranty) if a battery replacement does not work. When it works, which is normal, it greatly simplifies the process of using multiple components for general system use. My wife hates multiple remote use and this solves that rather well."

What's great about it: Fairly easy to set up, rids of multiple remotes
What's not so great: screen is a bit small, price, performance
"I get rather frustrated with the fact that the buttons don't always do what they were programmed to do, but when it works right it saves me so much time and effort screwing around with multiple remotes. You'll be very happy having this."

A great universal remote!

What's great about it: Programmable to use with many devices
What's not so great: Performance is sometimes slow
"I've had this remote for 2+ years now and haven't had any problems with it. The rechargeable battery and charging stand are very nice to have with a remote like this. Devices and custom activities can be programmed via the web and synced with the included USB cable but the software takes a little getting used to. This remote works well with my HD TV, Bluray player and XBOX 360. The remote can be used to navigate the XBOX 360 interface to watch Netflix videos with ease. The Help button on the remote is great for when you're devices aren't doing what they're supposed to. Also works well with Time Warner Cable DVRs."

Easy to use, customizable

What's great about it: Form Factor, Custom Pics, Easy to Program
What's not so great: Price
"The harmony 890 is a huge improvement from Logitechs Harmony 880. The 880 was plagued with charging point contact issues. Issue resolved with the 890. The RF feature is a huge plus. Some users have said that it only works within 2 feet, Bull. With the radio frequency receiver behind a closed door, and the IR blaster run to the proper equipment, I have not had to open my media cabinet in over 2 years, when I got this remote. Also, for the users who may have a hard time seeing the pictures in the 890's lcd view, they can easily be replaced with Txt. Simply take a screenshot of huge words that describe the function and you can input it as txt, minor issue for some I guess.
Logitech also added the ability to have multiple RF receivers around the house for multi-zone functionality, huge plus.
Programming is easy, but make sure you know your model numbers and what inputs your devices are using, if you dont have these things, I can see why you may not like this product. Bravo to logitech, only thing I would like to see on a future model is bluetooth built in for PS3 control and maybe some sort of gyro so it can act a pc remote/mouse.(Although current attempts have been poor by most companies)
Have recommended this product to many friends and have programmed almost ten for friends and co-workers."

Don't buy! IR does not work.

What's great about it: Intuitive Set-up
What's not so great: IR receiver just does not work well.
"If you want a universal remote that works in a cabinet this is not it. The box says 100 feet and through wall. Ha. That is a joke. I have to get within 2 feet of the cabinet for it to work. I tried their support and had 15 emails back and forth, but it seemed to me I was just getting the run around. Nothing more frustrating than a remote that you buy for convenience that does not work and is sticky. Also note, I am technical so this is not a set-up issue."

What's great about it: Included UHF extender, Macro setup (Activities button), back lighted buttons, clock
What's not so great: Expensive, long setup time, feels like you should handle it like an egg.
"Overall it has met my expectations. Setup was easy although kind of long. Be sure to have the model numbers for all of our devices handy. Thankfully if you are savvy with electronics you don't have to read the novel/manual."

What's great about it: Recognizes all equipment of different brands.
What's not so great: Difficult to read the screen.
"I am 72 and farsighted and it is difficult to read the screen, no small item if you are constantly looking for your specs. WTF does the screen have these ridiculous images instead of large easy to read print. MG! It drives me cazy. I uderstand what DVD means. I do not need a picture. EASIER TO READ PRINT AND NO STUPID IMAGES WOULD BE MUCH BETTER. I will not use Harmony for my next one if this aspect isn't improved."

My Most recent purchase

What's great about it: Soft buttons, feels great in your hand, and battery life
What's not so great: Screen resolution
"I replaced my Harmony One with this remote recently and it's my new favorite toy. This remote has all the great functionality of the harmony one but with soft buttons instead of a touch screen. This is so much better with trying to use the extra functions on the remote. This remote feels great in your hand, and is one of the best products I own. The harmony one looks a little bit cooler but the buttons sell the remote alone. I would recommend this guy to anyone who really wants to control their entertainment center."

One of the Best Remotes Ever!!!!!
05/14/2009
By KillerCarroll

What's great about it: A breeze to setup, great battery life, and it does what you want it to
What's not so great: It doesn't pop the popcorn for me
"I heard about this remote from a friend who had it and after doing the research online decided to buy one when it was on sale. This remote has been awesome for the past 3 months I have owned and used it. I have a rather complicated setup to where my wife couldn't watch TV in my theatre room if she wanted to. With this remote it is as simple as pressing a single button.
The setup disc that comes with it that connects you to the Logitech website was so easy that I think my parents could even set this remote up (if it wasn't for me at 7 years old the VCR would never have had the right time on it growing up). It is very user friendly, asks you very simple and easy to understand questions, and then it programs itself.
Once the remote is programmed you aim it at the devices and press the button for what you want to do. I have buttons for Watching Cable Box, Play Xbox, Play PS3, Watch HD-DVD, and Watch VCR and they all work flawlessly. You may have some challenges if you reconfigure the inputs on your receiver like I did so they do not match the manufacturer defaults so I would recommend programming the remote prior to changing names or reassigning the inputs of your AV Receiver.
Overall I have been extremely satisfied with this remote, all I need now are the IR sensors for my lights and fans and I will never have to leave my recliner for an all night movie and gaming sessions!!!"

What's great about it: The ability to work with many devices
What's not so great: Not very durable considering the price
"This remote seemed perfect for my needs. Out of the box, one of the first things I saw were just how tiny the remote's buttons were. I like being able to feel by touch which numbers I am pushing and that was impossible with this remote. Adding devices was simple enough, but while programming this remote, the connector that is used to connect to your computer broke off rendering this remote useless for making changes. On my way to return it and begin my remote control search over again."

What's great about it: Easy to use!! and program too! makes it much easier to use your home theater!
What's not so great: maybe price? but worth it in the end
"Great purchase! I had many remotes laying around that all had to be used when I wanted to watch a simple dvd. But with the harmony 890 it simplifies everything. My receiver, tv, and dvd player turn on when I press watch dvd, and it sets everything to the right settings and inputs. If you dont get this remote definitely check out the other logitech harmony remotes they are all great!"

Not worth the money

What's great about it: all in one remote
What's not so great: Logitech/Harmony 890 remote can NOT be fixed
"We used this remote for 16 months and the screen no longer works. We contacted customer service and they will only help over the phone for the 1st 60 days and the warranty is only good for the 1st year. I wanted an address to send it in to get it fixed and they no longer fix them because the S&H is too costly? We paid over $400.00 for the remote and can't get it fixed! The buttons are to small and to close together. The remote will only charge if you have it on the base just right. It is not durable enough because all remotes get dropped but this one did not last."

Do NOT buy this remote

What's great about it: infrared
What's not so great: breaks down constantly, terrible customer, difficult to manuevar
"This is a really bad product. And it is very expensive considering how little you get. It needs to be constantly reset by plugging it into the computer. The labels on the remote disappear and u have to guess which button is which. That'd even be fine if they didnt always change their position on the remote. Customer service refuses to communicate by phone, so all they did was resend me another one, which also didnt work. Ever leave the babysitter at home for the night? No CHANCE they will understand how to use the remote. I was excited for a logitech product and decided to spend the money, and the hours of frustration have been overwhelming. I am sucking it up and buying a different product"

So-So remote

What's great about it: Ir/Rf works well with our hidden components
What's not so great: butons are too small and close together
"This remote is so-so. The buttons are too small and close together. I'm a female with small hands and have trouble with this remote, so you can image the trouble my husband has. I gave the remote a 4 for durability because it has been thrown a few times out of sheer anger over the buttons!!!"

What's great about it: the way it works
"Setup had to be done a few times but it wasn't very difficult. The average person will be able to use it ninety percent of the time but when she pushes the wrong button she could temporarily screw it up which requires me to spend a minute fixing it. I love that it turns off all components at once and turns only the components that need to be on at once. I love it. I've had it for fourteen months and we use it with our pioneer 60" kuro, denon receiver, panasonic blue ray dvd, and direct tv."

Good Remote
02/12/2009
By ManCaveKing

|
What's great about it: Controls of all equipment in one remote
What's not so great: The remote is jam packed and small buttons
"Remote has good range. All my equipment is located in closet outside of the media room. Whenever I have a problem, the help button walks me through every step and fixes it automatically. My hands are somewhat large and when surfing the buttons it becomes difficult to do it with one hand (as all real channel surfers do) because the remote is full of buttons and the buttons are pretty small. Sometimes frustrating to hit the wrong button from time to time. Nevertheless, I am very pleased with the product."

Biggest Piece of junk ever

What's great about it: that i can return it
What's not so great: everything
"this remote is the biggest piece of junk. the IR doesnt work right it only works when it wants to. the help button on the remote asks the same question over and over again even when it gets the same answer. its not a touch screen so unless you have the fingers of a kid the buttons are way to small. it was stupidly expensive. getting the device info in was the only easy thing about this remote it was even a pain to get out of the box. its going back to the store the $50 directv ir remote works alot better. not only would i not recommend this to someone but i will purposely go out of my way to make sure my friends dont buy this. and this remote is just ugly"

What's great about it: Easy to set up, with future additions will out perform the cost
What's not so great: Buttton layout is tad a small/close together, Button backlights could be brighter
"Purchased this product not knowing the full power of the device. After charging the unit for about 4 hours loaded the software on my laptop, hooked up the USB cable and programmed the remote in about 20 or 30 minutes total. Thats imputting all my devices, dvd changer, receiver, cablebox, and tv. Even updated the software and firmware during that time. The remote works like a charm. It works so well I have been researching adding z-wave lighting adapters, security cameras, and etc. to further utilize the remote. With one press of a button I can change the input on the tv, turn on the dvd changer, and turn on the receiver. Then control them all with just ONE remote. I had 4, F-O-U-R, remotes before now I have ONE!!! Great product, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!"
