What's great about it: Simplicity of set-up
What's not so great: Can't find anything bad about it !
"I brought this home today and after only 20 minutes had it up and running with my cable/DVR box, DVD player and HDTV. I have all my components hidden behind a wall in an enclosed cabinet, so naturally I was amazed at how easily it worked, and no delay between commands. You simply press a button, and it works just as if you were right in front of the component. I really like the way it bundles your components, so you simply press "Watch TV" or "Watch DVD" and it turns on the related components for you. Now I have everything completely hidden and only one very cool looking remote sitting on the coffee table, slick !"

What's great about it: controls EVERYTHING!
What's not so great: Charging base sucks!
"Love the product ! Set up is much easier if you do your homework of manufacturers and serial #'s for the items you are setting up along with a call to customer support. It delivers what is promised by controlling everything I have! The only downside is that I am now on the second remote in 3 years and the same problem is cropping up - charging issues big time. Now they only do telephone service within the first 60 days and then you are on your own with the website blogs to guide you. Point for them, however, as customer service has stepped up to try to resolve my latest problems. If you're going to get one, make sure you can use rechargable batteries or get a warantee!"

What's great about it: Easy to set up, great price; excellent customer service
What's not so great: plasticky buttons
"I am very happy with this purchase. Prior to this, I had 5 different remotes that I was juggling. Now I can combine all my remotes into simple activities. I have a standard home theater setup - projector, dvd, receiver, cable box, screen - it handled most of these very well. I had some problems with the projector set up but was easily resolved by the excellent customer service."

"I purchased the Harmony 890 one-year ago and have no regrets. I am now looking to buy more for Christmas gifts to family members. It is so convenient once you set up your devices. Setup on the Harmony website is easy to use and idiot proof. I have dropped this unit numerous times and have never had anything break other than the battery falling out. Make sure the remote sits well in the cradle or charging does not take place."

What's great about it: Good sleek styling. Controls everything

"I got the remote over the 1000 because i heard bad reviews and over the One for its styling.
I had it for about a week and noticed it was not charging. I read some reviews to find out it is a known problem with that style remote not sitting in the base well to make contact. I could jostle it around, but shouldnt need to do that on a $300 remote.
I did initially like the button layout ,but as the days went on found they were too close together and too small for bigger hands.
The software is OK once you get used to it.
Had little bugs here and there with turning things on and off and responding to commands.
I took it back tonight and got the Harmony One mostly due to the base fitment problems. Too early to make a full review on that one, but right out of the box it fits much better and makes much better contact in the base"

Poor Design & Durability

What's great about it: It is cheap for RF
What's not so great: No durability. It is tough to hold and use.
"The product has absolutely no durability. The touch sensor to turn it on was broken in the first week. Month 2 I had to reset it as it lost all of its programming. In month 3 the display screen was shot. I called Logitech customer service to have it exchanged under the one year manufacturers warranty. The lead time on this was 10 days. After day 11 I checked the UPS tracking # they provided and it doesn't exist. Spend the extra money and get a quality product. Get one that is easier to handle and can handle being used on a daily basis."

Great Remote

What's great about it: Easy set up, RF, very sleek
What's not so great: Not the most durable
"I had wanted an RF remote for a while so I could control all my AV products from one remote and from non typical vantage points (kitchen, upstairs, etc). The remote is VERY user friendly and easy to set up... all you need is a computer and to know what your AV products model numbers are. I was ready to go in 10 minutes and immediately went to every room in my house (and OUTSIDE - external speakers) to test my stereo with the new remote. It was awesome. My only complaint is each time the remote is bumped too hard, and sometimes when it is taken off of the docking/charging station, it resets the date/time (to Sunday 12:00). Nothing else is reset and the remote remains usable but in order for me to correct the date/time I have to update the remote through the USB."

"I love this remote. Made peaceful life with my family possible. No more "how do I watch a movie?" or "I think I messed up the stereo." BUT....
I have kids. They have dropped it, I dropped it and my wife dropped it. Only 3 total drops and it is toast. I have all my other remotes and they have seen much more abuse and they still work. Seems like an item like a remote should take a beating better than this one did. That said...I will buy another."

"This remote is awesome! It runs my Direct TV DVR, CD player, radio and PS2. I went from 4 remotes to one. And it has the same buttons as my other remotes so it is easy to use. Plus you dont have to go through batteries all the time with the charger. The online setup is very easy. Not sure why some people say its difficult, mine found all devices and was a very easy walk through set up. Great product!"

What's great about it: Very flexible set-up, Easy to use once set-up

"Considering the number of different electronic components out there and possible controls, I was pretty sure that I'd have to make some compromises in using a universal remote. So far, that's not the case with the Harmony 890. I've been able to set up the control for all of my components just as I wanted. Granted the set-up takes a while, but I don't know how Logitech could have made it any easier. It's just the nature of the beast. Making it simpler would surely require taking away flexibility. So, you should plan on an upfront investment of probably a couple hours or more to set it up.
My only real complaint is that the buttons are hard to read. They light up in light blue on a silver remote, so not much contrast in addition to the small letters. But I found that after using it for a while, I would remember where the key buttons were and did not need to read them.
I am using the remote extender because my components are in a cabinet with solid doors. Now I don't have to keep the doors open. It can be tricky to figure out where to stick the emitters on your components. I found that you can pretty easily find the sensors on your components by using a flashlight to look through the clear plastic on the front of your components. It will usually be a round spot about the size of an pencil eraser or slightly larger.
I have one other challenge with my set-up. My components are in two different places in the room. My video components (TV, TiVo, DVD, etc) are in one corner, and my stereo is in the opposite corner. (I connected them with long audio cables through the basement for surround sound). The separation creates a problem with a universal remote because you can't point it both directions at once. The remote extender can fix this problem by using the extender on one set of components and the IR on the other set. Just make sure to point the remote at the components using IR.
In the set-up, the one small thing that threw me for a minute was that TiVo was not listed as a device option. I found that I had to select PVR under the Digital Recorder menu. I thought that I was fairly knowledgeable in home electronics, but I never heard of a PVR (personal video recorder?). Anyway, that did the trick for the TiVo.
Overall, I'd highly recommend this remote. I love it. If you're not knowedgeable in how to set-up home electronics equipment, you should probably get some help from someone that does."

"I bought this remote because all my components are hidden in a closet. This remote works wonderfully. The instructions that come with the remote are almost non-existent. Just pop in the Cd to your computer and then follow the instructions from there, toss the ones that came with the remote. Programming it from the computer was simple and everything worked great. One push of a button and everything turns on goes to the correct settings. It even lights up when you pick it up so you can see it in the dark withough having to find a button to turn on the remote backlight. $350 seems expensive but compared to at least $600 from a home audio installation company, this is a deal. Even a novice to home theatre can program and use this remote. A must purchase if you want to hide your components away. If your components are in the open, buy the less expensive one without the RF expander!!!"

"If you need a remote that can controls items behind cabinets, this is the perfect remote for you. If you only need an IR remote save yourself the money and purchase the 880. This is a tricky remote to learn how to use, but after a weekend of tinkering, it worked fine. The directions are next barely even given to you, most of the instructions come from the online setup. I set my up with only the IR functions and later "graduated" to the RF. I highly recommend this remote or any of the logitech harmony line."

"I just got this remote about a week ago. I couldnt set it up because I was waiting for my new Sony kdl-46v4100 to come in to try it out. I set up the remote with everyhing I have that can be controlled. The first try and it didnt turn on everything like I had hoped it would. When it did turn on the tv it switched from zoom to normal which made the picture look all funny. It still acts up every now and than. I had to program it witht he comptuer a couple more times to get it to recognize everything. Once I got it working right, its amazing, I keep all the remotes put away except for this one and, everyone loves to use it when they come over now."

"Let me just say I have owned this remote for about two years and from the day I bought it I did not like it so I put it back in the box and just opened it up once more and to no avail I still feel the same about it, even though it can do everything but cook eggs it’s not easy to work with, the button response time is very slow and has to point directly at TV. The button menu is not organized very well and takes too much time to run through to find the function you need, it was faster for me to just pick up the old remote then to scroll through all the menus on this thing. If you have lots of time to waist learning how to use a remote this one is for you. Let me say price is not everything just because it coast over $200 bucks."

"You can become the ultimate couch potato with this remote. I absolutely love it and recommend it to all my friends. If you have someone in your family that is technologically challenged this will eliminate all those calls for help. You can program in activities to do almost anything. "Have had this remote for a little over a year now and must say it is one of the best purchases you could make if you have a lot of HT equipment. The first remote I had had a problem, Logitech sent me a new one in the mail with out a single question which was awesome, kept me happy and purchased two more sense. Setting up the first two was a huge hassle and took a large amount of time, infact i still play with them now and then. The third I had BestBuy's HT intaller come out and program and haven't had a problem with it, infact he has been back out twice since to add on two more units. Great choice if you are expecting set-up to be easy, which is not, but a little costly. Controls all six units it needs to and even alows me to access the menus on them all. Couldn't as for a better remote."
