Don't buy this machine...

What's great about it: Price: $49.99
What's not so great: It constantly jams.
"I just tried to send a twenty five page fax with this machine, and it was an excercise in frustration. I had seven paper jams (every time the machine stopped to print out a paper jam error page). I had pages overlapping eachother and dropped calls (if you don't feed the pages in at the exact right time you'll have to redial the fax number. Because you do have to feed the pages in one at a time. I ended up having to send nine faxes to complete the twenty five page document."

This HP Fax Machine handles 10 pages automatically

What's great about it: Bought it in the store for $79.99. Uses HP cartridges, no tape like my old Panasonic did.
What's not so great: Corded phone, no answering machine, Model 1050 has answering machine.
"Contrary to another review, this fax machine will handle up to 10 pages automatically. You do not have to feed one page at a time. I would like to have the faxes received go up vertically rather than dump out the bottom. This design requires desk space in front of the machine to catch the faxes."

Quality Fax at a reasonable price

"This machine does everything that I hoped it would do and it does it flawlessly. Copies and transmissions are crystal clear, there are no paper jams, and set-up is simple with great directions. I thought about one of the cheaper machines but after reading reviews and doing research, I decided on this HP 1040 plain paper, ink jet. The film types seem to be a lot of trouble-this ink jet is a dream! Highly recommended.If you need a simple fax machine for occasional faxing and copying, this is the one to buy."

What's great about it: none
What's not so great: no way to feed multiple pages
"I went to the store to check this machine out. I had the clerk show me how the pages fed into it, and he said you have to feed them in one at a time. I have that now, I need one that I can put 4-5 pages into at a time. this one is NOT it."

HP FAX Machine Model 1040

"I Bought the 1040 two months ago and have been using it ever since and I really love it. I looked for a FAX that was simple to operate and had the least functions and was surprised when I came home it had alot of the same functions of the more expensive ones. And it's so easy to operate a child could do it. The price was just right for a hundred dollars and the quality of the HP name. I am greatly satisfied with my FAX 1040 HP. Dwight."
