Junk, junk, junk

What's great about it: Data sharing, when it works
What's not so great: Everything
"I replaced a very dependable WRT54G with this router because I wanted to incorporate a DVR with On-Demand and needed a router with a higher speed transfer rate for movies. What a mistake!! My network was a finely tuned piece of art - all components worked flawlessly - computers, wireless printers, range expanders. Now NOTHING works! I have spent the better part of three days online with Linksys and they can't make it work. They've had me uninstall and reinstall just about every driver that you can imagine, tweak the settings for the router in more ways that I can even remember, and even remove previously working components from my network. I am done with this. It is junk and doesn't perform as advertised. Heading to the store to find an alternative - or just go back to my WRT54G and say the heck with the On-Demand movies!!"

Great Router

What's great about it: Easy set-up, no problems with corporate VPN, exc range
What's not so great: Issues setting up "old" G adapters to work with it
"Excellent range. Was having issues with neighbors' wireless networks (5Gs and 1 N).
Old Linksys cable gateway (WCG200 - +2 years old) was not able to overcome multiple networks.
Wife's computer would not connect reliably. Installation of the WRT300N was seamless and simple.
Mated the router up with a Zoom 5241 cable modem. Very fast (compared to old set-up) and range has improved dramatically. Running on Comcast here in Virginia. Router in basement - wife computer upstairs, and can connect to router from 2nd floor (4 bars).
With N network card, wife's computer running 130-107Mbps...."

What's great about it: Speed, reliability, range
What's not so great: none yet
"I bought this to replace an old wireless g router about a month ago and have had great results. I have a desktop computer with a wireless N card and a laptop with USB wireless N. Both computers transfer files much quicker than with the old router. My speed ranges from 200 to 270 MBPS with this router as compared to 54mbps with wireless G. I have only had to reset the router once so far and have had no other problems. I also have a destop with wireless g and it has no problem working with this router."

What's not so great: Hard to keep configured
"I wanted to like this router. I spent a lot of money for it and I like its appearance. Unfortunately, it was hard to get configured and keep it configured in the beginning. The signal range was not great. 6 weeks after I bought it, the power went out during a storm (I had it plugged into a surge protector) and the router never came back on. Nothing else failed, just the router.
I threw it into the trash and replaced it with a TrendNet which was much easier to configure and works great."

What's great about it: Price, range
"I bought this product because our modem is in our guest house turned home office and I was tired of always having to go out of my house to use the internet. The router is in a house that is about 150 feet from my main house and I still pick up a signal! It's not a very strong signal but it's enough for me to be able to sit on my sofa and use my computer! Would definitely reccommend this product."

What's great about it: Better Range, Better Speed
What's not so great: None yet!
"Bought this to match up with my new laptop with draft-N capability, and it's a huge improvement over my old router. Works great with my existing g-band equipment, and my connection is already stronger and more reliable. This could be the router that makes me go wireless--and not run wires everywhere like last time! The added feaures? You can reserve DHCP addresses for specific machines (very handy for my media players and XBox 360) as well as the content filtering and access controls--you can shut the net off at a specific time if needed (my kids don't like that, but I do). Another new feature is the ability to save your configuration. I can set up my network, back up everything and restore it (if needed) at the drop of a hat. A fantastic idea to cap off a great product. Highly recommended!"

What's great about it: Sharing connection at the same time without being kicked off!
What's not so great: None
"I have an IMac (laptop) and my sons have PCs. One uses theirs for gaming online and the other for laying down traks of his music. I upload/download pics and music and in several Fan Clubs. We were constantly resetting the Comcast connection with their router. We can now all be doing our thing without interferring with each other. I came online and read the reviews and recommended a similar product to my son but after taking to the "Geek" at the store, my son said I didn't need all those ports...it's the same product but not as many ports..LOL.. I don't know what G, N, or B means but this product covers them all. He installed it very quickly and it's working great for all of us. Right now I'm on a forum with someone looking for a router and sent her here for this product. Can't wait for ticket sales to begin for the next concert!"

What's great about it: Easy to use and set up
What's not so great: Upgraded firmware caused it to choke
"This unit worked very well until I upgraded the firmware to the latest version (1.03.6). After that, the router recognized my computers but I was unable to connect to the internet. This was remedied by switching from the Windows wireless connection to the Linksys wireless connection. Apparently the new firmware has a problem using Windows to connect to the internet. After a long discussion with Linksys tech support, they admitted that the unit was defective and gave me instructions to RMA the unit. My unit is six months old. Don't know if the newer ones have remedied the problem."

Great Wireless Router

By GlobelTraveler

|
What's great about it: Excelent Speed, Stable Signal, Top Notch Security Options
What's not so great: Install software is way under par for a Cisco product.
"Install software was a little quirky on the PC I used to install the router. I use both Mac and PC's on the same wireless network with wireless printer and have in depth experience with setting up wireless systems. The PC's were straight forward to setup, the Mac took much longer than expected, requiring a change in the advance section of the router setup. The setup software is not designed for the Mac. The router works very fluid with both Mac and PC's as well as the additional wireless items I use. I had the Netgear N router and after 3 weeks it failed! The Linksys N router has been a much better product in every aspect."

What's great about it: FAST
What's not so great: none yet
"I just bought this router today. I had an older Linksys 802.11b that worked fine for years until I got a new laptop with Vista....it was soooo slow. I installed the N today, it took about 2 minutes, and it works beautifully!! Some have complained about the range, my house isn't big enough for me to really test it, so not sure about that. The speed is super fast, pages load as if directly connected to cable modem. We use these at work too and they're awesome! I'd reccomend this product!"

What's great about it: Easy To Install
What's not so great: Overall cost / benefit to convert to N
"Overall I'm happy with the performance of this router....I was replacing an older Linksys Wireless B Router because my wife and children were complaining about downloading of video clips and games....Performance is much better but I also replaced the wireless card for the PC.....I found it a lot easier to install than the first time I went wireless..This is something any user can do by themselves"

Best wireless router I've owned

What's great about it: Quick, Easy Install. Great Connection and speed all through house.
What's not so great: none with unit. wireless N cost a bit to switch all computers over.
"I've owned at least 5 wireless routers. This router has been completely trouble free and was easy to install. I receive a strong and fast connection through out my house. Even though the wireless g speeds are good I would recommend adding wireless N cards to your computers/laptops to get true N connections."

Wireless Router Frustration
10/12/2007
By laptopmom

|
What's great about it: Multifunctional unit
What's not so great: Performance inconsistency
"After enthusiastically purchasing this product in May 2007, I was completely frustrated in the Linksys Wireless N Wireless Router's inability to perform on a consistent basis. Our ISP Service Tech advised us to return the 1st one I purchased after the product failed about a month after purchase. It was exchanged for a second model that failed to deliver power to the unit from the power cord by October . I swapped out the power cord at the store and was still unable to get the wireless connection. Finally took it back for a full refund."

What's great about it: Good coverage, fast connection
What's not so great: More to setup than expected
"I looked at numerous different brands before choosing the Lynksys product. I planned to place the router in our basement with our desktop computer and use the laptop upstairs. I had to download the updated firmware and tweak some settings before I could get it to work. Since the setup, it has worked flawlessly, with good coverage upstairs."
