Good Product with limited range   10/07/2007
By WirelessMan from Santa Monica, California

What's great about it: Good speed and easy set up
What's not so great: Not as much range/distance as advertised

"This wireless router is very easy to set up and use. It provides great connection speed, and is secure. The only downside, in my 2 story house, is that when I am upstairs in certain areas there is essentially NO connectivity, even though I also bought a wireless access point to theoretically extent the range to cover the whole house."

"This is a great router. The reach is amazing. i have it in my back room and can use my laptop out front. Networking to other computers is really straight forward and simple to manage. Installation was a breeze and I haven't had a problem with it yet. It is certainly worth the money."

Great Experience   09/17/2007
By NetShark36 from Barboursville, WV

"First off, the setup was a breeze. It only took me approximately 10 minutes and everything was connected and working. The wireless range is great. Speed is increased over older wireless G routers. I have had no problems with this product. I highly recommend LinkSys as a brand I've used for many years with great results."

This is FAST   09/16/2007
By azcomputerguy from Cave Creek, AZ

"Just switched from G to N - now my wireless is faster than my wired connections. Had to buy a new gig internal card for the computer that is hard wired - and now everything is instant. Great upgrade from the G routers."

Good Product   09/13/2007
By 5527

"Ive been using the product for 10 months and have had one power reset. Range is extremely well as well as speed. Only problem so far is for some reason the wireless will not connect? I believe due to some radio interference. When the problem occurs I still am able to use the wired switch portion of the router. Ease of installation and convienent web based management a real plus. I reccomend this product."

Wireless Using Antennas   09/10/2007
By DocJK from Waukegan, Il.

"I recently installed this router with mixed results. I installed it in a campground using antennas to extend the wirless range for the campers.
The wireless router itself did extend farther than the Wireless-G with Speedbooster but only about 30 yards which suprised me, because they advertise 4 times the range. In defense of the wireless router, this was not a clear line of site situation. There were trees in the path that could have distorted the strength, but the MIMO technology made me believe that it could bounce around objects using the 3 radios and maintain a good signal with few dead spots.
Due to the lack of distance anticipated, I had to install 2 antennas instead of 1 to reach the desired distance in the campground. At the point of the WRE54G antenna install the signal strength was great but diminished significantly from camper to camper. I only had 1 complaint of a connection dropping, but resolved it by changing the DSL modem to "Always Connected".
This wireless router hasn't given me any other problems, so I believing the updated firmware 1.50.1 possibly fixed any earlier problems. I would recommend this router to anyone needing a little extra range in their wireless environment.

unreliable junk   09/09/2007
By grafals from California

"About the time the warranty ran out, the memory somehow became volatile and it won't hold my settings now. You have to constantly cycle the power to hold an Internet connection and the speed is GROSSLY exagerated. This would be a good router for about $25. But knowing what I know now, I wouldn't spend any more than that for it!"

Virtually Worthless.   09/07/2007
By Cyclical

"The Best Buy near me only stocked the version 1.0 model. Perhaps later versions have resolved some of my problems, but I doubt it, if Linksys's support forums are any indication.
.
I bought this because, living in an apartment complex, there is a lot of opportunity for interference in wireless signals. My connection to the WRT54GS router I did have would frequently drop, and since I use it for work, it's important that I not have to be constantly reconnecting or waiting for the interference to die down. The wireless-N features of this router worked beautifully, and I could go days without losing the connection. I was thrilled with it, for about the first two weeks.
.
The first time I tried to download a particularly large file I noticed two things: The connection was painfully slow, and my _wired_ connection was dropping after about ten minutes of downloading. In order to get the connection to resume, I would have to cycle the router's power. Resetting just would not do it. This happened every time I attempted a large download, anything of about 100 MB or more. I updated to the latest firmware to no avail, read through most of Linksys's knowledge base, and as much of their support forum as I could stomach. Nothing fixed the problem. In fact, nearly every post on their forum regarding this router was some variation of a complaint about its speed or its constant lost connection, with no resolution offered, save reassurances from others having difficulties that they were eagerly awaiting new firmware as well.
.
I hadn't given a lot of thought to the speed problem, but I ran check after reading other's complaints. My connection is 5MB/sec, and that's what I get when I connect my PC directly to it. Using this router, my speed was 100KB/sec. I had already followed their recommendations for improving the speed in my attempts to get it to stop disconnecting, so even if they would have increased the downstream rate, it wouldn't have mattered. Funnily enough, my upstream rate tops out at about 500KB-600KB/sec, and I could get 500KB up even with the router.
.
When I tried to downgrade the firmware to the factory default, the router suddenly started having trouble with DHCP tasks. I would have to reset it, and the modem in order to get it to retrieve an IP from my ISP's DHCP server, and sometimes that didn't even work. At this point, I contacted Linksys support, and they ran me through everything I'd already done until I got frustrated and quit.
.
In the end, I returned this and bought its D-Link equivalent, which reviewed fairly well, unlike the WRT300N. I haven't dropped yet, and without having to do a bunch of queer tweaks the speed is at 5MB/sec down and 550MB/sec up. I've never had a problem with Linksys products before, but this router really ought not be on the market.

Nice product   09/02/2007
By Gizmokid

"Had this for a couple of months, but I am very pleased with its performance. Initially I was only achieving speeds of 54mbps, once I changed the card on my laptop, the speed increased dramatically, video watching is more enjoyable.Because of the " good neighbor" feature, if at times other networks are present, speed might drop a bit, otherwise, an excellent router."
