Initially hesitated to even bother transporting to my apartment based on experiences with all prior shampoo machines of which there have been many.... Within the first pass on a section of carpet Hoover has sold me on one once i return this one to my parents. I am almost excited to continue shampooing a carpet. If a carpet shampooer is something you need then your quest shopping for one should now be completed BUY THIS ONE.

This cleaner got the highest ratings on Consumer Reports and mostly good reviews, so after researching we took ours home.
The one evident item from nearly ALL the posts is that the plastic tabs on the handle of the fill tank are very brittle and break off after little to minimal use or wear. Well, I must be the exception because mine didn't even make it to the first use as one of the tabs was already broken from the brand new packaging and the other snapped off even with VERY careful placement on the first fill. Oh well...I guess if it was to be expected I can't complain too bad. You can still use it with those tabs, just a little more annoying to keep the handle in place.
On to the performance. I have used another Hoover model in the past that was half the price of this one and I will be honest in saying that this one does not clean all that much better, but whereas I had to wait 6-8 hours for the carpet to dry before with that model, this one has the better suction and dries the carpet MUCH faster. We could walk around the floor in socks within an hour and they were barely even damp.
The attachements are nice and work fairly well. The tank doesn't hold vast amounts, but its also about how much water you inject/use in your cleaning and the area you are cleaning. Overall it got our 15 year old light-colored carpets pretty clean and got most of the stains out. Just wish Hoover would not use such cheap and brittle plastic, especially since this seems to be such a known issue for a long time.
What's great about it: Good suction and ability to dry. Above average cleaning
What's not so great: Cheap plastic used on certain parts...prone to breaking

Love that this cleans carpet and hard floors. I wish the dirty tank was a little bigger in size, at least to match the size of the clean water tank. I do spend a lot of time emptying and refilling, but a small price to pay for having clean floors. It is vary loud when cleaning on hard floors but headphones worked fine. Hose attachment holder doesn't do the best job when mounted on the cleaner, but nice that it can be removed and only used when needed. I was a little disappointed that the spin brush attachment tools doesn't spin faster, but it still worked fine on the stairs. Overall very happy with the product and only wish I had purchased it sooner!!
What's great about it: Easy to use and clean
What's not so great: Smallish dirty tank capacity

I've had this unit for 2 years. The cheap plastic caddy on the back broke within 3 months. The spin-scrub stopped working within the first year. And the spot on the bottom that you're supposed to squeeze and pull out to clean the filter wont budge. The hose that goes with the accessories cracked within 1 month. Overall, really poor quality. When it works, it does great, but this one won't hold up to use for very long.
What's not so great: Cheaply made, no durability.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I actually cleaned my carpet only 5 times in the 3 yrs I owned this lemon cleaner. The cleaner only worked well for one cleaning. Then, the water tank tabs broke off. Needed to send the cleaner in. During the next cleaning, the motor burned up and had this replaced. The next cleaning, the motor burned up again, and we had it replaced ($140)Then, the tank that holds the clean water and detergent broke. Next cleaning, we paid $140 to get the motor replaced again. Then, the water tank would not seat correctly and all the water would flow right out onto the carpet.. Finally, the motor burned out again after cleaning only 1 room and when I called The Geek Squad, the man told me not to invest one more penny into this piece of junk. He advised me to throw it in the garbage and buy a different brand and I took his advise. I invested enough into this cleaner that I could have purchased a new cleaner. My cleaner looked brand new as I hardly ever got a chance to use it. My Hoover spent more time in the repair shop than in my home. Do not buy this product .
What's great about it: Not one thng. Bad design.
What's not so great: It never worked and was expensive.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I'd give it Zero stars if they would let me. The people who are giving this thing 5 stars either work for Hoover or clearly havent had it very long. The design hasn't changed in at least 5 years and the newly manufactured items suffer from the same basic design flaw as the older ones from 2005.
Here is what to expect when you buy this: Your first few uses will go awesomely well. I was amazed at how good of a job it did pulling the moisture from the carpet. Then, it happens.... the tabs that are used to lock the lid to the water reservoir will break.
It's not a matter of if, but when. YOURS will break too.
I must be clear here: I did not abuse these cleaners in any way. I was always very careful about how I treated them because just looking at the tabs you can see it's going to be fragile. Why Hoover's engineers can't design this correctly I have no idea... it's SUCH an obvious design flaw that could be fixed SO easily with a slight modification to the tab and thicker plastic (or aluminum). (I ended up using duct tape, then finally tossed this thing in the trash, where it belongs.)
If you enjoy wasting money on something because, like me, you think Hoover would only sell a quality product, purchase this cleaner.
But dont plan on purchasing a replacement water reservoir for when yours breaks. Those have been sold out for years and Hoover apparently isn't making new ones because I guess they think you will just buy another steamer.
I wouldn't even recommend this thing to an Enemy, let alone a friend.
What's great about it: It works great... about 7-10 times. Then breaks.
What's not so great: Buying it = Waste of Money
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

We have now owned 2 of this particular Hoover model steam cleaner. With each one, the first year or so it was fabulous. After that, the brushes stopped working, plastic pieces cracked or literally broke off. The features are fabulous, but when you have to add to that statement, "the first yr at most", it leads to a fair quality. Performance was good, til it was about a year old. See the pattern? Gave the product 2 chances (replaced with a second one), only to receive the same overall product with same disappointments!
We recently replaced it with a Bissel, and it is no comparison to this cleaner. Sadly, this "disposable" Hoover beats our current steam cleaner, but how many will anyone throw out and keep buying the same product??

Was not suprised at the reviews same problems everyone else had. Brushes stopped spinning, plastic handles brokeoff tank, started leaking where the water tank sat when snapped in properly, poured water out the back when handle tilted back (it has to be to use). Big waste of money. Not worth spending a dime to fix because it is all plastic and will not last, will break again.Did a good job when it did work about 6 months but stains always came back and i used the pet stain shampoo and pretreated. Looking for a new one now. This one is on the curb waiting for gabage pickup cause that is what it is...garbage!
What's great about it: Nothing

I bought this carpet cleaner when my three year old decided that he needed to start pouring his own milk. Since our dining room has carpet and milk was being spilt on it daily from my sneaky three year old I thought it was time to invest in a steam cleaner.
The first one I bought did the dining room perfectly but then caught on fire during the second room. I realized that the carpet shampoo I had bought was a concentrate and there is a big warning about using the correct kind of soap to avoid fire so I think that's what caused it. I had the protection plan so I was able to switch it out no problem. I used the CORRECT amount of detergent this time and it has worked perfectly for about six months now. In fact I have become addicted to cleaning my carpets. I run the steam cleaner about every 6 weeks or so. I only use detergent though every 2-3 times. Usually I use vinegar in the detergent section because it's a great stain fighter and really bringhtens the carpets. (vinegar is safe because it doesn't sud like detergents) Even when I use the detergent I spray hot vinegar on all my stains about an hour or so before and theyy lift right out. I do spend a lot of time on my carpets, going very slow when I am cleaning and I think that also plays a part in how clean my carpets get. I LOVE seeing all that nasty black dirt and grime going down the drain. My only complaint is that the water tank is kind of small so I have to refill a lot. If I went the average speed though I doubt I would have to refill except between rooms.
What's great about it: Pretty much everything!
What's not so great: small water tank, would have liked it to have the hard floor squeegee.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This machine worked great on the first room we used it on. Unfortunately it was built to only last for one room. Halfway through the second room the brushes on the bottom broke and it will cost $47.10 to fix. Hoover will not cover the warranty because they say I had to break it some way. I assume using it per the instruction manual is what they are talking about. Very poor quality cheap plastic brushes on bottom. Too bad it seemed like I was really going to like how it worked if only it had been more reliable.

The cheap plastic holding tank handle break off the first week. The brushes have stopped spinning after 6 months. The soap holding tank leaks terribly! Don't buy this junk!! I didn't think for the price and some of the awesome reviews this would happen to me!! Now I am stuck with a 300.00 dollar piece of junk!

The machine works very well. I have a dog and a cat and some problem areas are now not only clean but the smell is gone. I'm happy.

I was shocked at how dirty my carpet was. We had two different"Professional Cleaners" come in and the stains came back! At the cost of their visits the cleaner has already paid for its self. and we only used it twice. And I feel it dose just as good as a job as the Pros Do. I buy the prep cleaners and go to town. My buddies at work told about this steam vac We shopped around hard to find the best price we got it at Best buy......
What's great about it: The scrubbing action is outstanding!
What's not so great: Kinda Big But kicksbutt on stains

I think this is a great machine. I love it in fact, I would like to see it made stronger for longer use. I do not want to have go and replace pieces before I use it. We manage to tape the handle while we wait for the replacement piece.
What's great about it: It is a very good machine and does the job well.
What's not so great: cheap plastic, handle on outter tank was broken before we got started. Fell to the floor and broke. Cheap quality

In all fairness to this machine; I am a disabled senior citizen and not all that strong to start with. I really could not believe how dirty a bedroom rug could be. It's great to see what's coming out of the carpet as you are cleaning it. Did a wonderful job and in my opiniion was worth the price, especially since I got a sale price on it.
What's great about it: Did an excellent job
What's not so great: It's a bit heavy, had to do 4 x 4 square at a timeso I wouldn't strain pushing and pulling

I am very disapointed with this steam vac, in 2 years i used it barely 10 times on a small carpet terrain and it broke 3 times and I already spend 140$ on it. first the soap canister started leaking, to replace it 50$, then the brushes froze to replace 90$ then not even a month after it froze again.I mean it is ridiculous. I don't have pets and I only need to clean before my baby crawl so I barely use it .Don't waste your money on this machine. not worth a penny.
What's great about it: waste of money
What's not so great: heavy and like a jitsaw puzzle

This machine is by far the best machine on the market for cleaning ceramic tiled floors. The scrub brushes clean grout, as well as tile quickly and easily. No mess mixing solutions and the dirty water tank is large enough to accomodate cleaning a large room without having to be emptied.
What's great about it: Easy to use, cleans better than anything we've ever used
What's not so great: Wears out with daily use.....we're ordering our third machine in in four years.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is one of the worst floor cleaners i ever had. First off the scubbers stopped turning, then one of the check valves for the clean water tank broke. not knowing this i filled it up and went to put it on and notice the water everywhere on the floor. then the same thing happen to the soap part. oh and i thought this thing was heated for steam cleaning. Guess that just never worked. and shortly after all that. THE MOTOR WENT BAD.

I've bought 3 of those, just because I had parts from the prior machines. This and the last machine broke after just several months, the brushes stopped rotating. the first machine stopped picking up solution. I trusted Hoover for a quality machine but three broken machines in just over 2 years? Save yourself the problems, buy something else.
What's great about it: Works great the first few times
What's not so great: Brushes stop rotating after 4 or 5 uses. And this is my 3rd. I thought the last time it was just a fluke.
