What's great about it: Easy setup
What's not so great: Mic pick up
"The video quality is really pretty good considering this is a very inexpensive webcam. The exception being the actual mic pick up. When you properly place the webcam (to get your best angle), it's possible too far away to pick up your voice. Yelling doesn't make you look good either. My solution was to hook up a separate mic, however, a mic with a strong pickup will loop back. In other words, sometimes the mic is picking up what the speakers play. I hear this when I webcam with my sister, her webcam is installed in her laptop. I'm sure the best way to web cam would be through headsets with separate mics & camera's, but for $40, I can overlook some minor issues until I work out the best solution. It is truly a 5-10 minute easy set up. No computer degree required. All in all, a great buy! : )"

"I was looking for an affordable webcam and got exactly that. For $40 I was not expecting out-of-this-world image and sound, but something that works well on my desktop for Sunday morning video conversations, and this webcam delivers exactly that. If you are looking for a better picture, or a higher quality mic, you will have to spend more than $40... this webcam is not the best out there, but it's not priced high either. A solid performer a that delivers as advertised."

What's great about it: Ok video
What's not so great: Buzzy audio- unacceptable
"Have tried this camera on 3 different computers-- and sound quality is buzzy and terrible!!! Microsoft sent me a replacement- concluding the mike was bad-- and the replacement had the same terrible problem. Whether recording on the direct programing. or skype-- terrible buzzing- unacceptable sound quality./ A waste of money."

What's great about it: Cost
"This is a pretty good webcam. My last was extremely noisy (grainy) and laggy. This one is alot better but still gets a bit grainy at times. Install was easy and I find its easy to access all of the features. If you need something that won't break your budget then this is a good option."

constant buzzing sound

What's great about it: It didn't have too bad graphics.
What's not so great: constant buzzing sound
"I use this camera for skype, yahoo IM, and windows live and have vista, so this might not apply to people not under those circumstances, but for me, this camera had a BUUZZZ sound. My friend on the other end said that it was unbearable. Plus the call button only works for windows, so if you're using it for something else, like skype, the call button doesn't do anything. Plus the webcam stand thing is very shaky. Back to the bbuuzzz thing, whenever i used this thing, there was always a buzz sound. I even heard it myself when i recorded the sound, on the software that came with the camera, skype sound test, and yahoo sound test. THERE WAS ALWAYS A BUZZING SOUND."

Amazing webcam

What's great about it: Easy installation, in-built mic, good video quality
What's not so great: Nothing so far
"The new VX-3000 is one of the best webcams I've used. I considered the $99 VX-6000, too, but decided it was too expensive for my needs. The best thing with the VX-3000, compared to Logitech and Creative models, is it does *not* install tons of hidden drivers, hidden DLLs, and hidden spyware; the Logitech and Creative installation utilities place tons of hidden stuff on your hard drive. The VX-3000's was a very clean installation.
I use Windows Live Messenger (aka MSN Messenger 9.0) so I get seamless integration, although I've seen people use it painlessly with Skype. It has the best webcam image quality I've seen. Windows Live Messenger has been rated by various PC magazines to be the best video chat client software, and I always had good results with Creative and Logitech cameras in the past (using MSN Messenger, which has been rebranded as Windows Live Messenger, or WLM). The VX-3000 bests them all in terms of ease of use and video quality. The built-in mic is also lightyears ahead of the yesteryear models."

What's not so great: Picture a little grainy in full screen view
"I really like this webcam. We are first time webcammers! We are using it for our kids to talk to grandparents and it works great. We had bought a different brand prior to this one and had great difficulty with the microphone and it not staying adjusted. This was really easy...literally load the software, plug it in and use it. My parents have the same one and it works just the same for them (and they are not technical people at all!). I'm sure there are better picture quality cams out there, but for the money, it is perfect."

"Video is pretty good, not the BEST quality, but pretty good for a webcam. I use it so my mom can see my daughter 1200 miles away and it's great. Pretty choppy, but I'm sure it's from our crummy DSL. Camera is doing great so far, easy installation."

"I recently purched this cam for an o.k price. I got the camera home to find that it took horrible pictures. Also the Camera did not have the greatest mobility of moving around. Everytime you try to change the position you automatically hit the windows messenger call button. No self timed pictures. Not worth the money!"

"We sent one to our daughter 2000 miles away and can watch her newborn baby just fine. We only have DSL so I expected a choppy feed but I was very impressed with the quality. It was very smooth and the sound is just about perfect. Very, very good product for the money."

What's great about it: Video, ability to stream online, Excellent Sound quality, funny effects, custumizable
What's not so great: Not PS3 compatible, video can be a little skippy.
"I saw a friend of mine stream video to me of him playing Guitar Hero 3. I thought it was cool, so he said he was using a webcam...So I figured I'd buy one. His webcam got bad reviews so I found this on sale for 34.99. It is excellent.
This is my first webcam, and I love it. I used to use my digital camera for me taking vids of Guitar Hero but now I can just plug this in, set it up, and take videos. If I don't like it, I just delete it. They are decent quality vids, and the sound is simply unreal. The effects you can put in are funny too, such as a Cat, or a Parrot, just sitting there. It took me maybe 5 minutes to get the camera set up for good videos (I tweaked the setting for the TV).
This WebCam is NOT compatible for use of the PlayStation3, for those looking for a cheap webcam for use of PS3 chatting. Though I was not buying this webcam for this use, it would've been cool.
If you are new to webcams, and you want a moderately cheap good quality webcam, Pick this up. It wouldn't disappoint."

Vista Problems

"I purchased this camera and was excited to get it home. I followed all the installation instructions perfectly (many, many times). The camera worked fine with Windows live, but the software it came with would not work. I even downloaded the update from Microsoft, but still no luck. It would start to open and then say, lifecam.exe is closing - that's it.
I did a search for lifecam.exe to see if anyone else was having this problem. Do a search for lifecam.exe and you'll see all the problems out there with this camera and Vista. Trying to talk to someone at Microsoft support was like pulling teeth and I'm no dentist . . . so I'm taking it back."
