Great game! - but missing 2 player mode :(

What's great about it: flying for the first time is great.
What's not so great: no 2 player mode
"This review might be a bit biased as I've been playing Mario games since the 80's and love them all. My 8-year old and I recently spent a whole day playing this - it's truly an amazing Mario game. One of my favorite additions is Mario's new bee costume. The only thing not so good about this game is that there isn't really a 2-player mode. My son and I would switch back and forth, and all 2nd player can really do is point at the screen and collect stars. All in all though, this is one of the top 3 mario games of all time - buy it!"

What's great about it: best of all marios
What's not so great: nothing
"I had very high expectations from this game and so far it has exceeded them.
Graphically it's just beautiful, stunning and just plain amazing. Screenshots just don't do justice for the game.
In many ways it plays like Mario 64. And don't take that as a bad thing, what I mean is that the game feels very intuitive as to how the mechanics work which makes the learning curve nearly nonexistent.
Some of music and sound in the game are a kickback to all of the older Marios that we have all played. What is a Mario game without some Super Mario 3 music?
But the main thing for me is how fun and different it is. Even though it seems like you might have already done this or that in another game, it adds a completely different twist to it that makes it more exciting and fun then anything you have ever played.
Super Mario Galaxy has completely revolutionized the way you think of a platformer. And at this point the bar has been pushed so high it's galaxies (pun intended) beyond any other platformer I have played or probably will play for years to come.
Plain and simple, this is the game to own on the Wii!"

Great game for Mario lovers
10/20/2008

What's great about it: Skill building and a lot of freedom as to what you tackle when
What's not so great: I hope you don't have vertigo or get dizzy easily, because this game will do it to you
"As a Mario game lover myself, I found I really enjoyed this game. It kept with the past integrity of the storylines and difficulty with new twists. Mario is in outerspace and needs to find Princess Peach. To do so, he works with the Lumas and their mother to gather power stars from a variety of galaxies. Each galaxy has different creatures that require different skills (which you learn from one planet to the next) to defeat. The game gives the player a lot of freedom to choose what to tackle and when once a few galaxies are completed. The game is also challenging because there are different comets that pass by planets and, if you accept, you will have to complete a planet with a higher degree of difficulty, for instance, with only one life, racing another character to a finish, or completing the planet's main task within a certain time limit. Because you actually travel from planet to planet, the graphics take you 3-D around a relatively small mass and sometimes, you are running upside down and your directions on the remote need to change. The fact that the game is on Wii versus on a typical game system with a joystick only makes no difference, because you still have to move the character using the joystick on the remote. Traveling in the 3-D space takes a while to master and can be very frustrating at first. All in all, an excellent edition to the Mario franchise."

What's great about it: graphics, length of game, controls, story
What's not so great: controls somewhat
"this is the best mario game that has ever been made. even better than mario 64. the graphics are great on par if not better than mario sunshine. the length of the game is big. after you collect 60 stars you can play the final level. but the game does not end there. you can continue to try to get th rest of the stars in the game.I think there is 125 stars, total. the controls take a little getting use to because as your moving mario over the planets the controls can get reversed. but still nothing horrible, you will get use to it. and the story of the game is awesome. I beat the game, and I won't spoil it for you, but its really cool. I highly recommend this game to everybody who owns a nintendo wii. you won't be dissappointed."

What's great about it: Nice graphics
What's not so great: Very set paths, no real ability to explore an entire level
"Mario Galaxy is a pretty good platformer, but if you really like Mario 64 you're going to be disappointed. Every level is very linear and you don't get to explore like you used to be able to."

What's great about it: Old school Mario feel with new age graphics and design
What's not so great: Some levels get to be a little repetitive
"Mario Galaxy starts off fast paced and continues that way until the very end. It has lasting appeal, a decent storyline, and an innovative twist on Mario with motion sensitive peripherals. I've enjoyed playing the game all the way through multiple times, and it is always fun to come back to whenever I get bored playing another game."

A Must Get

What's great about it: Great gameplay, great graphics, and great music
What's not so great: Nothing
"When I received this game in winter, I couldn't stop playing it. I played it in all of my free time, and I loved it. It's set up is similar to that of Super Mario Sunshine, in how that you are transported to different places to play different "episodes" to gather up shine sprites (in Galaxy, you gather stars instead). In Galaxy, you are taken to different galaxies where you are given a main task to complete. The reward for completing it is a star. The galaxies are very unique, and no one is just like the other. Super Mario Galaxy makes good use of the Wii's motion sensing remote. It is used in a variety of ways from collecting star bits (a form of currency in the game) to doing spinning jumps. The plot of the game is as unique as it's many galaxies. Of course, just like many of the other Mario games, Princess Peach is Kidnapped by Bowser, and you have to rescue her. You encounter a few new friends along the way, too. Mario gets a whole new array of power-ups in this game. In the original Super Mario Bros, you only had the Mushroom and the Fire Flower. Those two things blossomed into the wide range of power-ups seen in this game today. In one of those power-ups, Mario becomes a bee as he makes his way around a beehive. Another one, one of my personal favorites, lets you walk on water and jump up waterfalls. Finally, the music in this game is one of a kind. Every Galaxy is given it's own theme music to set the mood. The music is paired up perfectly with the settings, from spooky to adventurous. I have about a dozen games for my Wii, and I have to say, this is one of my favorites."
