Metroid Prime 3: Corruption: Nintendo Wii
Model number: UPDATE |SKU: 7849616
Synopsis Samus Aran the bounty hunter is back facing her old enemies Dark Samus, Ridley and the rest of the Space Pirates for another battle ranging through the cosmos. This time, the pirates have launched an attack on Base Sector Zero and Samus must repair the defense systems before the pirates destroy it completely. Meanwhile, the Galactic Federation's network computer, the Aurora Unit, has been infected with a corrupt virus and the same group of pirates are the likely culprits. Using Nintendo's new, revolutionary Wii controllers, you are now completely in the center of the action. Point the controller to guide Samus' arm for pinpoint-accurate shooting. Then, use the Nunchuk controller to engage Samus' grappling beam and pull away the pirate's shields for an unexposed shot. Fill Samus' all-new Phazon power supply to a specified level, and she'll temporarily hasten into game-altering Hyper mode. On the flip side of the coin, if she exceeds the proper dosage of Phazon, she's likely to perish. Explore alien worlds aboard Samus' ship, find weapons and information, then prepare for the final encounter with Dark Samus.

The first true Wii action game arrives10/15/2007
By Professor2from Georgia
What's great about it: You are thoroughly immersed in the game, bosses are challenging but not too difficult What's not so great: Some devices take a lot of practice
"This is the first true "next generation" gane for the Wii and it was worth every second of wait put in for it. The graphics are stunning, the voice acting is very good, and the story line is - well, incorruptable.
If I do have any complaints with it, it would be that some of the devices, such as the grapple lasso, can take a good bit of learning how to use properly. Other than that, it's just about as non-stop flawless excitement and fun as you could hope to find.
I'm not a huge fan of first person shooters, but I liked Prime 1 and 2. This game, however, does leaps and bounds over its predecessors. You don't have to know the stories from Prime 1 or 2 to enjoy this one though; pick it up tonight and enjoy it as you slip on Samus' armor to battle evil within the galaxy!"

What's great about it: good game, difficult What's not so great: no multiplayer
"I found that this game is comarable with the likes of zelda twilight princess. Its a good solo rpg, but once you beat it you can throw it away as it has no multiplayer or purpose once you beat it."

What's great about it: pretty long for a wii game What's not so great: lame fighting
"this game was so dissappointing, i thought i would have fun, but, i didnt. the fighting is very lame, you can only use the grapple beam on certain guys, and the shooting requires no skill, its easier to die from acid rain than it is to die from fighting four guys at a time, which is usually considered alot on this game. there isnt even enough fighting. and the story is lame too."

The most I've invested into a Metroid so far.10/11/2007
By kcabbusses
What's great about it: - I'm a bit on the optimistic side when it comes to pros, so it's easier for me to list cons. :P What's not so great: - Controls may take some getting used to. No multiplayer of any sort. Bosses in Hypermode can verge on \
"(My first review here, and yeah, I'm hoping to win some gift card money, so sue me. :( ) I've played a lot of Metroid games, being a Nintendo nerd like myself. However, despite the promises of seeing Samus in skimpy outfits, I was never able to push myself to "complete" the games. Fusion? The other Primes? Even Zero Mission? I'd get up to a point, and then quit, likely out of tedium or frustration. Metroid Prime 3, however, struck a balance with me. I was able to beat it in it's hardest difficulty, with 100 percent item completion, without the same sense of frustration or tedium that plagued me in other Metroid games. For this, I'd say it's my favorite Metroid so far - sorry to all you 2D diehards. The Wii controls took some getting used to - alongside the fact that this felt "more like an FPS" than the other Prime games, which I also had problems adjusting to - but the effort to learn the controls was satisfying when I was able to adjust my shots to improve accuracy or nail hard-to-pinpoint objects with my missiles. The biggest complaint about the controls I have is probably the placement of the + and - buttons, but that is a relatively minor gripe. The planets and their layouts seemed much easier for me to navigate than in other Metroids, assumedly because of the way the ship can transport you to certain areas much quicker than walking for five minutes on foot. On the other hand, there's still some elements of exploration that require walking through mysterious landscapes and having a careful eye and an intuitive mind, which justifies it still being a Metroid title. The graphics were, of course, an improvement on the old Prime games. The most notable improvements seemed to be in the amount of objects and happenings that can occur on-screen at once - Bullets can potentially fly around from all over the place, for example. Sound was similar to the other Prime games, which is fine by me, although I personally prefer more retro-style "Melodic" music than the Prime series, which feels more ambient and atmospheric. The most dissapointing aspect of Prime 3 is rather fickle for me - Samus's "Zero Suit", seen in the opening sequence, is obviously not very skimpy. Regardless, though, it's nice to see her in "glorious 3D", so to speak. All in all, if you're looking for a satisfying singleplayer game, and you're a good ol' Nintendo nerd who wants more Wii games -besides- the "usual stuff", Prime 3 should at least be worth a good couple of rentals."

Wii Are Incorruptible10/10/2007
By Cakey
What's great about it: Excellent controls, beautiful graphics, three difficulty levels What's not so great: Can be confusing.
"To start, this is arguably the best game ever. First-person shooters on consoles have suffered for years due to the "dual-stick" control scheme. Metroid Prime and Prime 2: Echoes used a different - and possibly worse - scheme. The Wii fixes this problem, and does it to a T. The controls are, put simply, just about perfect. The Wii remote senses your motions excellently, and all aspects are intuitive. It takes just a few minutes to settle into the controls. It's not all controls! To start with, the graphics are roughly on par with that of Microsoft's Halo franchise, which pretty much silences any whining about this -underpowered- console. You can gaze at vistas, read the caution labels on fuseboxes, and try not to gaze TOO long at the spectacular bosses. Human models (Yes, people in a Metroid game!) are fantastic, and lip-syncing (Voice acting, too!) is very good. While I'm discussing graphics, I probably should list the visual cons as well. Certain lines borders get pixellated when viewed at the wrong angle: this is a fault of the TV, not the game - the Wii doesn't support full high-definition technology. The only other problem must be that if you stand right up against a door, wall, etc. then it becomes pixelated. This is doomed to happen, and is why console-makers should really use THIRD-person shooters to show off a console's graphical capability. Story is more well-developed than previous Metroid titles; it's quite engrossing enough to lead through to the end. The inclusion of people - and three fellow bounty hunters - makes you care much more about whether or not the Space Pirates (who are under the control of Dark Samus) take control of the galaxy. Anyone who has played a Prime game can tell you that the real story is in the multitude of Lore entries located throughout the worlds explored. Tragic Bryyo, intent Elysia, arrogant Space Pirates, each has a different tale to tell. After reading the lore of Bryyo, I nearly cried. Story hitches? Not really. It's not a game where you expect, need, or want a huge amount out of story, and it delivers as it should. If you've played a Prime game, you don't need me to tell you the music is excellent, and this is better! The increased storage space available on the Wii disc allows for better quality music and more tracks in each song. Problems with sound? Again none. Where Corruption is most tarnished is in the items department. Unlike the first games, the basic set of Varia suit, morph ball, power bomb, charge beam is not lost near game start. There are also FEWER upgrades than previous games, and the only new ones are the Nova beam and grapple charge. Some also herald the return of the "stacking items" as a good thing: I disagree. If your items are only UPGRADED instead of added to, puzzles can't change so much: you'll still be using your beam, missiles, and grapple beam. You can't say the puzzles are BAD, or easy, though! The "stacking" items to cause some puzzle evolution: the plasma beam can melt some metals, the ice missile freezes things. One much clamored-about new upgrade is the Command Visor, which allows you to remotely command your ship to do a number of different things. This allows for something else new: ship upgrades. These are, admittedly, limited (there are two), but can change the dynamics of a puzzle: the hugest block is no match for the Ship Grapple, after all. Then come boss battles. These are excellent: the new controls allow for weak points and the like be properly exploited. Locking on no longer directs your fire at that point, merely the camera. This lets the size of a point matter, along with position, etc. Last but not least is the important: replay value! This, I can say, is considerable. An addition to the game is "credits". These come in four colors - red, blue, gold, and green (friend credits) - and each is earned in a different way. For instance, every time you scan a new creature, you earn a red credit. These credits can be used in the Extras menu to purchase bonus content. This content runs the gamut from sound tests to concept art to a screenshot tool to a Mii bobblehead in your ship! In conclusion, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is the best Wii title yet, and possibly the best ever. This deserves your $50 more than any other game does."

What's great about it: Cinematic features What's not so great: Graphics
"This game is the best game yet in the metroid series. I love what they did with all the cinematic effects in the movies. They improved the graphics. The controls were also very good and easy to use. The gameplay and storyline was long and the best out of all the metroid prime games Nintendo ever made. I think overall the game was really really good."

What's great about it: Everything What's not so great: None
"Such a fun game and story is great as well. I recommend this to anyone who likes the Metroid series or anyone who is a fan of first person shooters. Because the Wii is priced so low compared to the other consoles, I think it's worth getting the system just for this game. Buy this game, you won't be disappointed."

What's great about it: Excellent Graphics; Perfect Controls What's not so great: Predictable Bosses as in Previous Prime Games
"This game is simply gorgeous. Controls are as easy as pie, although being able to clearly see where you are shooting can be a little difficult due to bright color palette on screen. Boss battles are fun, but predictability in defeating them is common if you have played the other Metroid Prime games. Still though, this is not a game to be missed in any aspect. If you have any interest in playing one of if not the best controlled first person shooter/adventure game, then pick this up."

Controls Like A Dream10/07/2007

What's great about it: Beautiful Art Design, Raises The Bar For Controls What's not so great: Every Now And Then Waiting For The Game To Load
"The Metroid series has always been about you being a bounty hunter out on your own. As the series evolves, Corruption gives you a lot more interaction with other characters. Before, during, and after your missions you'll get to talk to your military companions, fellow bounty hunters, and the sentient super-computers the story revolves around. This new level of interactivity with others gives your actions much more context so you know why you're out there, and infuses the story with more detail and emotion. You're still a lone bounty hunter fending for yourself, there's just a lot more going on around you now. + The way Retro Studios has implemented the Wii remote into the first person shooter genre is groundbreaking. No longer are consoles second place to the computer mouse and keyboard controls. The Wii remote practically transforms into your weapon as you hold it and simply point at the screen to aim at your targets and look around. There is a great feeling of accuracy and control with this setup, moreso than any other I've used before. The motion sensing abilities are also used wonderfully for interacting with switches, cranks, doors, buttons, enemies or anything else that can be pushed, pulled, or twisted, which really makes you feel more involved in the experience. + Corruption is one of the best looking Wii games yet. Not only does it have immense levels of detail pouring out of every corner and crevice, but it has a true feeling of being art, rather than just a video game. From the giant stone golems with glowing bellies, to the living blue planets with pulsing appendages and creatures unknown, there is much beauty within."

What's great about it: Smooth Control, Game Pacing What's not so great: The Map
"First of all, I'm new to the Metroid Prime series. I only bought the game because everyone I knew already had Zelda, Paper Mario, and I wanted something different; not really a 1st person shooter to begin with. Nevertheless, I loved the game. The controls are so smooth that I never really had to think about aiming--I just did it. The explorational aspect of the game makes visiting an area more than just completing the mission; you will want to know what the heck happened here. My only complaint is that the map system felt a bit clunky. I could not figure out how to scroll around the map--so maybe I am an idiot, but I was only able to zoom in/out and click on specific areas. Great game."

What's great about it: For wii, the graphics are pretty good What's not so great: It's a little slow and there are tons of cutscenes that you can't get through
"I rented this game to see if I wanted to buy it, and decided not to. The gameplay is okay, but there are tons of cutscenes. Some of it seems like it was stolen from daxter or ratchet and clank. You don't get very many weapons or extra stuff, and the worst part is there is no two-player. I would only reccomend this to people who either love the Metroid games, or someone looking to rent it to keep them occupied for a weekend. I feel no urge to advance in the game and keep playing. It just doesn't keep my attention. hopefully the Wii will come out with a good first person shooter with a fun two-player mode. Like Far Cry, but with better graphics."

An Outstanding Shooter for the Wii09/23/2007
By somebodyfrom Arlington Heights, IL
"I have played "Metroid Prime 3: Corruption" for the Nintendo Wii, and can honestly say that it keeps me addicted for hours on end. The game's storyboard alone is enough to keep someone extremely happy with it, but the guys over at Retro Studios and Nintendo took the game a couple steps further. First of all, the levels in the game will constantly come up with missions when you least expect it or new parts to a certain planet. The game always has some kind of area or room on each planet that will not open with your current stuff, so you will be compelled almost regularly to come back to certain planets that you already beat. The only thing I dislike about the game is that sometimes a person can find themselves stuck on a mission and not know what to do, plus the fact that some things in the options menu aren't so clear on what they mean (such as the option to adjust the "visor opacity"). But otherwise, I remain extremely satisfied with "Metroid Prime 3: Corruption" for the Nintendo Wii. This game was an excellent purchase."

Enjoyable Experience09/21/2007
By ProfessorWhomp
"Metroid Prime 3 is a flawed, but enjoyable game. It may not be as good as the first Metroid Prime, but it should prove to be a worthwhile experience for fans of the first two games. My main complaint is that the combat is stale due to extremely poor enemy AI. Whereas the poor combat did not bother me in the previous two Prime games, it seem terribly outdated in this game due to the new and improved controls."
