Metroid Prime 3: Corruption: Nintendo Wii

Model number: UPDATE | SKU: 7849616

Synopsis Samus Aran the bounty hunter is back facing her old enemies Dark Samus, Ridley and the rest of the Space Pirates for another battle ranging through the cosmos. This time, the pirates have launched an attack on Base Sector Zero and Samus must repair the defense systems before the pirates destroy it completely. Meanwhile, the Galactic Federation's network computer, the Aurora Unit, has been infected with a corrupt virus and the same group of pirates are the likely culprits. Using Nintendo's new, revolutionary Wii controllers, you are now completely in the center of the action. Point the controller to guide Samus' arm for pinpoint-accurate shooting. Then, use the Nunchuk controller to engage Samus' grappling beam and pull away the pirate's shields for an unexposed shot. Fill Samus' all-new Phazon power supply to a specified level, and she'll temporarily hasten into game-altering Hyper mode. On the flip side of the coin, if she exceeds the proper dosage of Phazon, she's likely to perish. Explore alien worlds aboard Samus' ship, find weapons and information, then prepare for the final encounter with Dark Samus.

Its good to be Corrupted   09/12/2007
By JoeMama0708 from Sugar Grove, IL

"Everybody was in awe when they first heard about Metroid Prime for the game cube. The legendary female bounty hunter was going to a whole different dimension... 3D. The graphics were amazing, the level designs outstanding and it was named as one of the best nintendo games in history. Well after its not so good sequel (Metroid Prime 2 Echoes) retro studios finally nails it right on the head in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. The visuals are at its top notch and Samus has never looked so good. Now the game play, you actually feel like your in the Chozo made power suit. This game feels absolutely amazing with the Wii controls. You aim with the wii remote, fire with the A button, and move with the control stick on the nunchuk. Overall this will probably be one of the best games that you buy for the wii and will probably be the best game for the wii ever."

Fan of the Series Must Have   09/11/2007
By Spletz1337 from Palatine, IL

"Overall a great game. The controls are a bit trick to get a hang of at first but once you do...the game just picks up! Gamers are complaining about the Fire/Jump button (A and B respectivly) but it becomes natural.

Ok so if you have played the first 2 Primes, this one is a bit different. The gameplay is more Linear than the other 2. I am about 75% done with the game and found that you need to follow the proper steps to get where you want to be.

The story line is in perfect....well...line with the other 2 games and the Lore you get in this game is great. Without spoilers, there are a few less beams than any Metroid player is used to but it makes sense in the game.

If you are looking for a great game, this is it. Best shooter/adventure game yet for the Wii.

A must own for the Wii!   09/09/2007
By goblue

"I just ordered Metroid Prime 3 from Best Buy a few weeks before release, so I was clearly anticipating it to a degree. But I had no idea how addicting this game was going to turn out to be. Especially considering how few Wii games I own, this has been the crucial addition to my collection. The game has an outstanding use of the Wii-mote and nunchuck, becoming really intuitive as the game goes on. It is also not that easy! It really makes you think at points. Not to mention it looks pretty good, and also for what must be the first time is using actual voices for the characters, making it a bit more engaging. Overall, I would recommend this game if you are looking for an addition to your Wii experience, and especially if you are a fan of first-person shooters or puzzle games like Zelda."

the wiis best shooter   09/09/2007
By tastygroove from Boston, MA

"metroid prime corruption is a great wii title. it has everything you'd expect. solid game play, labyrinthine levels, and huge, tough bosses. all of this being said, i think this game exemplifies the wiis shortcomings in the modern gaming arena.

first things first, mp3 has very responsive and smooth controls. its been said, and i would agree, that on advanced sensitivity mode, this is as close as a console has come to mouse and keyboard accuracy. battles will have you and your foe jumping about and dashing to avoid being hit, but the control scheme still allows you to make well placed shots. the only issue that i've found so far is that you can't turn around very quickly. the way your enemies dash around and the arenas are layed out there are times when you really need to look behind you quickly but just can't. it would have been nice if there was a quick turn-around feature a-la resident evil 4.

this metroid plays almost exactly like the previous metroid games. the look and feel of the game is very consistant. levels are sprawling caverns and in each area there will be a new 'security feature' in some of the passage ways that you will need to get a new weapon or ability to be able to pass through. and each level has a few boss battles to test your mettle. actually, come to think of it, metroid plays very much like zelda, except with lasers and space ships instead of swords and horses.

graphically, metroid is the best looking game on the wii to date, but still falls short of even the average xbox 360 title. this is more a shortcoming of the wii, however. it seems that the developers have really tapped in to the wiis hardware to produce the best looking game they could. lighting, textures, and effects all look great, and the frame rate stays smooth all the while.

another area where metroid falls short for me is in its story. this is the first metroid where you will find voice acting and where you will have npc characters fighting along side you. it seems they've tried to include some story here, but in my opinion, have fallen short. it seems sort of forced and uncompelling. i found myself just moving through levels without any sense of why i was there. the characters are empty and generic. i guess that i've come to expect an engaging story along with my games. for me, for a game to be great, and complete, it just has to be there.

another gripe i have is the lack of multiplayer or online support for the game, another thing i have come to expect from next-gen games. i understand that metroid games aren't meant to be multiplayer affairs, but it just seems like a shame to finally have a shooter with such great controls and not be able to test them against your friends.

anyway, metroid is a great game and a must have title for the wii. hopefully its control scheme makes its way into future shooter games. but while this is a grade A title, i think it falls short of modern gaming greatness.

THE Wii game to own   09/09/2007
By gratyngrogg from Westchester, IL

"If you're a moderate to hefty fan of either of the first 2 Metroid Primes, this one is going to give you twice as much to love!

The differences that make it better?

- Multiple planets to explore
- hyper mode: at the cost of an energy tank you get 25 seconds to blast the heck out of whatever's in your path, AND hyper mode has it's own share of weapons upgrades during the game! If you use it too much though you risk becoming corrupted and dying.
- the grapple beam does more now than just allow you to swing from grapple points! Pull away obstructions or a foe's shield, and more!
- more morph ball puzzles! I don't want to spoil anything but some of these puzzles are amazing!
- Oh, did I (and anyone else) mention the graphics are stellar and an obvious improvement over the first 2?
- full voice acting from the supporting cast as well as in-game NPC's!
- scanning does more now than fill your logbook, a great many of the more integral scanned items that are logged will earn you credits good toward bonus stuff in the "Extras" section of the game. You can use these credits to buy artwork, music, and in combination with friend vouchers (which you can only obtain from a friend over WiiConnect24) you can get cooler stuff like a Mii bobblehead for your ship or a screenshot tool that allows you to take screenshots in-game and send them to a friend!

The game took me a little over 17 hours to complete on normal difficulty, with an 83% completion rating. Finding every single logbook scan and upgrade item will likely tack on another 6 - 8 hours! So at the very least you're looking at a 25 hour experience the first time through, and the game gives you reason to go back and play it again, (though how I will not say.)

The game also supports progressive scan and widescreen.

Now buy it! Buy it and love it!

Good game   09/09/2007
By Nolan from Iowa

"Good shooting game. They do a good job of running a tutorial at the beginning without calling it a tutorial. It is a difficult game where you have to think a little bit, but you still get to shoot. The game Metroid will always be a classical. Whats more fun than turning into a bowl and go bowling, wish it had multiplayer and online play. That is the only reason I do not give this game five stars."

Wii has a contendor   09/09/2007
By jerlandon

"With all the recent buzz about high profile shooters on "next gen" systems such as Bioshock and Halo3, it's such a treat that Wii owners get the killer app, Metroid Prime 3. I'm not a Nintendo fanboy so the aformentioned games still deserve all the praise they're getting but MP3 is in my opinion the true next generation of first person adventuring thanks to the incredibly intuitive, responsive, and immersive controls. I never want to go back to dual analog or even mouse and keyboard after this experience. On top of that, Retro Studios has FINALLY set a standard for graphics and presentation on Wii, showing that it actually is a system beyond the original Xbox. Hopefully the lazy developers will be kicked into shape by this title's beautiful textures, effects and smooth framerate. Fantastic game and we didn't have to wait til December to get it either. Stop reading and BUY!"

Who knew becoming corrupted was so fun.   09/04/2007
By Jammerkid

"If your a wii owner and your looking for something that doesn't involve dancing like a fool or any other casual game, then Metroid Prime 3 is for you. Graphic that surpass the first two prime games, some of the best FPS controls on a console to date, and that good ol Metroid feel make this game worth getting. If your a hardcore gamer looking for some classic fun or a casual gamer that want's to try something new, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption won't disappoint."

This game Corrupted me!   09/02/2007
By ohioboy1985 from Glenford, Ohio

"This game has truly surpassed the old metroid's and given new life to the line. With the versatile wii controllers and the story line of metroid, it's is hard to put down the controllers. I just hope they make more of this line soon. I just suggest one thing for people getting this game, LOOK around! You can miss things if you are in a hurry. It is worth the money I payed for this game."

Best FPS on Wii   08/31/2007
By MichYu from Queens, NY

"This is one of the best games I have ever brought for the Wii. The graphics aren't like PS3, Xbox 360. However, considering the Wii Specs, it definitely The best looking game up to date.
The control Scheme is Great. I used to hate Console FPS games cause of the current dual Anolog control scheme. Unlike the current dual Anolog controls, the whole screen only moves if you aim at the edges, allowing to you to shoot everything on the screen easily and allows you to play for longer periods without getting a headache (like early FPS, 007 Goldeneye, for N64 using a Wiimote). It is very responsive, so you don't have to worry about the Lags when aiming/targeting another as in the anolog sticks movements. With controls like this, FPS games are well on its way back to the top of my list.

Metroid Prime 3: Perfect   08/29/2007
By Masenko from Corvallis, OR

"Overall Score: 10
Prime 3 is a perfect blend of old Metroid gameplay, new tricks, and the Wii's amazing controller.
Graphics: 10
The art direction on this game was perfect. Every area is beautiful to look at, especially in 480p. There's certainly nothing wrong visually with this game. The game runs at 60 frames per second (this is very, very good) for the entire game.
Sound/Music: 10
The music is very mood-setting, and the special effects sounds are great as well. It's hard to describe music and sound effect with words, so you'll have to check it out for yourself. No complaints and only praise, so no points off.
Play Control: 10
Metroid 3 easily has the best console control scheme of a First-Person type game ever. Some people may even prefer the Wii's remote and nunchuk combo for this game over your standard PC keyboard and mouse. The Wii Remote may be around equal or slightly less than a mouse for aiming, but the nunchuk blows keyboard motion control out of the water. Strafing is like gliding on water. Aiming, shooting, and everything is executed with flawless controls. The controls are really very easy, perfect, and to use an overused term, fluid.
Storyline/Plot: 9
This is the third Prime game, so it's like reading the last third of a great book. It's not the easiest thing to just come in on due to some obvious nostalgia from earlier Metroid games. To balance this they seemed to have added in the hunters from the Nintendo DS game, Metroid Prime Hunters. Overall though, there's plenty of mystery and excitement over what's going to happen next, and that's what a story is all about.
Replayability: 10
Some people complain that the game is too easy. This may have a ring of truth to it, since the controls are so precise, you're actually playing the game instead of fighting dual-analog sticks. Besides, Metroid Prime 3 has three difficulty settings, and an amazing amount of things to scan and collect, and plenty of places to explore. There's also Friend Vouchers. They are achievement points that are unlocked as you play through Prime 3 that can be traded online with your friends. You spend these points on downloadable game extras, and you can only spend points that you were traded. It's a cool bonus to keep playing until you unlock all the extras.
This game is easily the best game out for the Wii. The controls put every other console First-Person game to shame. Metroid Prime 3 is an FPA, it's a First Person Adventure, which means if you like exploring, figuring out environmental puzzles for powerful enhancements, and fights against Space Pirates, this is a great game for you. Also... wow is this game ever fun.
Overall Score: 10

Nintendo's best FPS, hard to top   08/28/2007
By Akash

"I picked this game up this morning, and haven't stopped playing it. I mean, the first Metroid Prime game had graphics to compete with Xbox 360 games, but for the Wii, a whole other dimension is added. Aiming with the Wii remote simulates shooting the actual power shots, and multiplayer is addictive because of this. It makes the game twice as intense, and much more realistic. The storyline is great, and for metroid prime lovers, you will get hooked again. I'd recommend this to anyone, even people who don't like FPS's."
