Synopsis When Tetra gets into trouble exploring an abandoned ship, Link attempts to rescue her, only to fall into the ocean and encounter trouble of his own. He is washed up on the shore of a strange island, where he encounters a fairy who promises to help him reunite with Tetra. But unless he can locate the Phantom Hourglass, there may be no time left for Link to survive. The Legend of Zelda continues its phenomenal success with this new game that uses all the exclusive features of the Nintendo DS. Use the top screen to stash the map, then drop it to the bottom screen to make notes or to chart a path for the boat so you can look out for enemies and man the cannons. You can also use the stylus to move Link or control his sword and paths for his boomerang. Great new challenges await experienced fans of the series, yet this edition is also a perfect introduction for new gamers to experience the inspiring gameplay, innovative puzzles and creative settings that are the hallmarks of The Legend of Zelda series.

What's great about it: graphics, gameplay, length of game, story What's not so great: can't think of any
"this is a great game. the graphics in this game surpass the n64, and are little less than what the gamecube can offer. the gameplay is unique, since you use the stylus for attacking and picking up items. you pretty much use the stylus for everything in this game. the length of the game is good as well. it takes part after the windwaker game on the gamecube. I really don't see a problem with this game, everything in this game is awesome. from the controls, to the graphics and the story. oh yeah I forgot to mention that since the game takes part after the wind waker, the game is set in pretty much the ocean. anyways I recommend this game to zelda fans everywhere, as well as those who have never played this type of game before. it is a great buy for all."

What's great about it: Revolutionary controls, a whole new adventure with all new villains! What's not so great: Not as long as other Zelda games.
"If you're a fan of the Legend of Zelda series, then this is certainly a game you do not want to miss! It is the direct sequel to The Wind Waker, and the story picks up right from there. Perhaps the most catching aspect of this game is that the game controls rely entirely on the DS touch screen. You must move the stylus around the screen in order to make Link move, attack, and search for things. This gives way to an entirely new combat style, which is downright thrilling to use. You get the usual familiar faces as well as some new ones, including a brand new villain. The game is not quite as long as most Legend of Zelda games, but that is mostly due to the fact that it is a DS game as opposed to a console adventure. That being said, there's still plenty to do, and the replay value on this game is top notch!"

What's great about it: Classic 2D style Gameplay revitalized by Stylus controls What's not so great: One of the dungeons forces you to retread previous floors on future visits
"Phantom Hourglass is a mix of new and old conventions. While it uses 3D models, the gameplay is decidedly 2D, which hasnt been used in a Nintendo developed Zelda game in 15 years (A Link to the Past for Super Nintendo). Stylus controls make everything fresh.
Visually stunning, memorable melodies, good humor."

What's great about it: It's Zelda What's not so great: Sailing
"It's a Zelda game. I love Zelda and it pretty much expected as much. I got a good game with sweet puzzles and interesting ways to fight monsters. My chief complaint is sailing. To me it is just a pain and it gets annoying after a while. Sure you get warps like in Wind Waker but still annoying."

What's great about it: everything What's not so great: none
"Nintendo does it again with the Legend of Zelda series. This installment of the game is as fresh as ever using all of the capabilities of the DS. Veterans of the series will be amazed on how easy it is to manuver link with the stylus pen. even attack is easier because you are actually poitning in the direction you want to attack. The story is as lenghty and entertaining as the previous console installments of the series. Overall the game looks, sounds, and plays spectacular. This is a must play for everyone."

What's great about it: great controls, nice graphics, and good story What's not so great: the game is kinda confusing
"This game is great but you might find yourself in a cave time from time where the puzzles are kind of complicated. The controls are very easy. The way the game uses the stylus is very cool.I would love to see another game like this come to the ds."

"I was so surprised when I saw that sixty people reviewed this and not one review went below a four. I didn't think this was possible for a ds game except metroid prime. So i bought and I could see why. The game is so exceptionally good that the graphics will not bother you. Like all of these games the story is good and long. The only problem is that after you beat the game and the only thing left to do is play mulitplayer."

Lives Up To DS's Potential
07/20/2008

What's great about it: great stylus functionality, fun and fast, easier sailing What's not so great: weak plot as in all zelda games
"I was always a fan of the Windwaker aesthetic and it translates beautifully to the DS. It also serves as a sequel of sorts and a new adventure where sailing magically becomes so much easier on the DS. The stylus is great for movement, battling, sailing, so basically everything. Story itself is simple and basic but plot is never a strongpoint in Zelda games, it's style, graphics, and gameplay. This is the best portable Zelda I've played and it is so much fun. The wifi game is rather addicting too."

Amazing Game!

What's great about it: Fun, Creative, Funny, Good Puzzles, Pirates What's not so great: Hardcore fans might find it too easy
"If you have read some of my other reviews, you would know that I am a casual gamer, and an adult. This review is for casual gamers.
With that in mind, this is a MUST HAVE game! The game is the right difficulty -- I have had trouble with previous Zelda games being too difficult, but this one is challenging, but achievable.
It took a little while to get used to the 3D-ness of the game, but it really works in the game. This is one of the few series that came from the 2D world and shines in 3D.
And, to top it all off the game has a pirate theme, which for whatever reason makes it all the better. (I guess it reminds of the third Monkey Island game, which as we all know is the greatest game evar!)
I strongly recommend this game!"

What's great about it: Great Carrer Mode What's not so great: After you beat the game their is no minigames except multiplayer
"This is a very fun game with cool missions and bosses and great weapons and attacks that are very fun. The multiplayer is pretty good. After you beat the regular carrer their is no single player minigames so once you beat it you are done."

What's great about it: Uses of stylus What's not so great: Hard to use the stylus at times
"Overall, its a good game. Aside from a few difficult times it was good. When i first started with the stylus it was hard and confusing, and i always wanted to use the arrow keys. But afteri started and played for a while i really enjoyed this game and it was fun to beat."

What's great about it: Uses all of the DS features What's not so great: Kinda hard to get used to
"If you are a Zelda fan then you will love this! When I purchased this game I was a little worried because I hadn't played any Zelda games since the nintendo 64. But it is just how I remember! It is a little hard to get a hang of at first because you are using the stylist to navigate around but its really fun!"

What's great about it: smooth stylus controls, addicting gameplay What's not so great: short dungeons
"I have been a huge fan of the Zelda series since it first debuted. O there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to pick up this title to see how it compared to the previous game and how they continued the amazing story. In fact, I bought a DS specifically because I wanted to play this game. From the second I began my adventure, I was immediately reminded of the classic gameplay from the 2D games. The stylus controls are flawless and I am glad to see a game take complete advantage of the unique touch screen setup that the DS offers. If you have ever played a Zelda game, you know how the game progresses. Go into a dungeon, find an item, use item to defeat boss, collect something from defeated boss. Add in a few side quests/mini-games and you have your typical Zelda game. While Phantom Hourglass is no exception to this rule, it does not mean that style of play is bad. In fact, I quite enjoy it myself. Nintendo found a winning formula and I don't blame them one bit for sticking to it. If I have one complaint about PH, it is that the dungeons are too short. I am sure this was most likely due to limited capabilities of the DS as compared to it's home console counterparts. But if you are familiar with how Zelda works, you probably won't take very long to beat this game. If you are a completist then it will add some time onto your gaming experience if you absolutely must collect all ship parts, hearts, etc. Even with the con I mentioned above, I still highly recommend this game if you have a DS. It is a must have for Zelda fanatics and casual gamers alike."

Another Great Zelda Title

What's great about it: Great Gameplay, Characters, Storyline, and Levels
"The pros listed really say it all about this game. This Zelda title provides wonderful gameplay for the DS by including several features recognizable to the series and some new ones unique to what the DS can do. There are a lot of extra things to do outside the main "quest" and storyline including customization and bonuses. Overall this a great game for the DS!"

What's great about it: Fun game that is portable
"This is a great game to own. You have all the classic Zelda features in one portable game. It is not super easy either. I hate it when I buy a game and it takes me no time to complete every level. I have had Zelda for over a month and still haven't completed it. To me that is the biggest recommendation I can give. Plus I get to use the stylus so my fingers don't cramp from constantly pressing the buttons."

What's great about it: Zelda gameplay you love What's not so great: not for Zelda haters
"This game is a must have for any Zelda lover. It combines some classic game play with innovative features. It is more polished than Minish Cap, which didn't feel like a full length Zelda game to me. This is a definite must-have for Zelda fans and a good introduction to the series for those who haven't played a Zelda game before."
