30' range?03/01/2009
By Davonthelakefrom Canyon Lake, Texas
What's great about it: Looks good What's not so great: Battery life is limited. Connetion faulty and many dropped keystrokes.
"I purchase this product several months ago and am going to go back to my corded MS keyboard. As I have said the battery life is limited but that is not the main issue. The connection is faulty. I have the usb reciever on top of my computer and the keyboard is about 4 feet away. There are many times that I have to mash keys to get anything and there are many dropped keystrokes. Makes for lots of backspacing. When the backspace key works. You have to take the battery cover off and move the batteries to ensure that they are making a good connection every so often. I have done so twice typing this. On the other hand I have not had any issues with the mouse other than a missed click or two. This product has left me with an extremely bad experience with Kensington to the point where I will not buy another of their products. It will not even make a good boat anchor.."

Aweful Keyboard Great Mouse02/14/2009
By Slateski426from Old Bridge, NJ
What's great about it: Mouse What's not so great: Keyboard
"Keyboard has terrible range. You must push the buttons real hard in order to get it on the screen! Even when the keyboard is close to the PC. I must frequently backspace and correct a lot of errors cause of this! Also another awful thing is that you wouldn't know if the Caps Lock is on or if the num Lock is on. There is no indication light!!! It's annoying when you are trying to type case sensitive passwords and such. Mouse is wonderful and very accurate. Extremely comfortable. Not worth the money! Might as well buy a wired keyboard for the same price. I'm going for the Logitech that has an illuminated keyboard!! I'll keep using the mouse I enjoy it!"

What's great about it: Nothing "great," it's just adequate What's not so great: TERRIBLE range, keyboard layout
"As many have mentioned, the range is terrible. I had the USB transmitter on the FRONT of my tower, which is under my desk - about three feet from the mouse/keyboard. Both the mouse and keyboard kept cutting out and stalling. In situations like online chats - where quick typing is important - I would have to re-read my messages before sending them because it kept leaving out letters when it would cut out. I had to put the transmitter on a USB extension cable so it is 12" from the keyboard/mouse and now it works OK. The keyboard still lags sometimes, but it doesn't cut out and miss letters. The mouse is nice, a good feel and well-positioned accessory buttons. My only complaint is that, while there are a lot of pre-configured options to choose from for the accessory buttons, you don't have the option of adding a custom key combination (eg. CTRL + TAB). The keyboard feels very cheap. The buttons are a little tough to push when typing quickly. The keyboard is also laid out differently than other keyboards I've used. The left SHIFT key is the same width as the CTRL key, so I keep hitting the key next to it instead of SHIFT. Wedged between that and the Z key is a PIPE/BACKSLASH key. Oddly, they also put a PIPE/BACKSLASH key next to the ENTER button (yes, there are two identical keys on the keyboard). If you've used a Logitech board, the Kensington will take some getting used to. I'll probably return it and get a Logitech."

What's great about it: It does have some good style, the mouse fits the hand well, great accuracy What's not so great: The Keyboard frequently stops responding, range is very poor
"I bought this set because it listed it as having 30' range, and I was intending to use it in my living room on a media center computer. Almost immediately I noticed response of the keyboard was lacking (even at less than 6' from the receiver) and now and then it would simply stop responding at all,
The mouse is very nice though, the laser tracked very nicely and the ribs on the side made from rubber are kinda weird to get used to but it kinda nice if you're using the mouse for a long time.
When it works, they keyboard is quick, responsive, and has a nice feel to it, but the frequent stoppages are more than annoying.
I returned it today and bought a Logitech S520 set, and I am very pleased with the features and options available. The keyboard seems just a 'tad' more sluggish when typing, but I also have the encryption turned on (a feature not even available on the Kensington), I suppose if I turn it off it'd be a little bit quicker, but I am initially very happy.
In short, do not buy this product, it is possible that I got a bad keyboard, but don't risk it unless you're a huge Kensington fan...I for one will probably not stray from Logitech...they haven't let me down yet."

What's great about it: Mouse feels nice. What's not so great: It just doesn't work.
"Absolute junk! The keys on the keyboard are hard to push. I feel like I'm typing on a manual typewriter. Forget speed, you have to push hard! The mouse drops out on any surface. I finally took away the mouse pad and just use the bare desktop. Then I had to get a usb extension cable and put the receiver about 12" away from the mouse. The range on this thing is pathetic. I have replaced batteries, no change. Don't buy this usesless product."

What's great about it: Looks great, solid. What's not so great: Not good for gaming.
"This is a great keyboard and mouse, as long as you aren't going to use it for gaming. I mean, I still use it for gaming, but, the buttons are too sticky, after a while, they tend to get stuck, rare, but it happens. Otherwise the keyboard and mouse look and work great. I think I've had to replace the batteries maybe 3 times in the past year, so, not bad."

What's great about it: Does everything it's is supposed to do What's not so great: I'd like a rechargable mouse, but those are rare birds.
"Got this to replace my logitech which kept suffering because of the range (it is used on my Home Theater PC). No problems since I plugged it in :) Good feel to the keyboard and mouse has cool rubber sides with little rib like things that are comfy and give great control. Additional keyboard controls are pretty intuitive and out of the way enough not to get pushed by mistake. Nice buy for a good price."

What's great about it: Quick buttons work on Mac & PC, battery life, mouse buttons are customizeable What's not so great: No caps lock indicator, signal drop out when phone rings, poor fit and finish
"I'm a self employed graphic designer and I spend a lot of time on this keyboard & mouse. Pros: - Batteries last. Been using the set for a while and have not had to replace batteries. - Mouse is somewhat comfortable (no more so than other mice) - Buttons on mouse are customizable, it'll spoil you for other mice Cons: - Every time my studio mates' phones ring, my mouse and keyboard quit responding. I will be replacing them because of this. If it's a long call, I might have to go without keyboard or mouse for an hour. - The keyboard is basically flat on the desk. I like a little angle and can't get it. - The rubber grips on the mouse hold all kinds of crud - The rubber grip on the mouse has come off twice, the adhesive doesn't hold too well - The function keys might or might not be enabled, you possibly have to try/undo/enable/reapply when using (every time). It's an awkward function button on the end of the row that doesn't show it's state. - There are no little LEDs on the keyboard so you never know if you've accidentally hit the CAPS LOCK OR anYTHINg until you aRE hALFWAY THROUGH your email. I think there are other sets out there that would be better for the price."

What's great about it: Convenient to use What's not so great: Range
"This has been a great keyboard. It's easy to use and I like all of the functions it has. It does run out of batteries occasionaly, but that's to be expected. Sometimes if the keyboard gets out of range from the sensor you have to adjust your position but other than that, a great keyboard."

What's great about it: mouse shape fit hand well What's not so great: keyboard just up and quit, only works for righties
"I bought this set to replace a worn out mouse. Upgrading the keyboard to wireless was a bonus, so we decided to try it. The mouse fits well in the right hand and movement was easilycontrolled. The keyboard was pretty easy to adapt to, although it remained a bit flatter than I would have liked. Then it just quit. Less than a month later it didn't work. I changed the batteries. Nothing. I could not get in touch with Kensington's customer support to ask them and their website had no suggestions as to a keyboard that failed to function. Rather than play around with the 5 year warranty, which meant possibly going days without a functioning keyboard (why pay for something that doesn't work?), I took it back. Got a MS3000."

What's great about it: One button shortcuts, 6 programmable button mouse What's not so great: the media control buttons are innefficient
"I'm actually very shocked to see so many negative reviews about this product. Personally, i would highly recommend this product over other more expensive keyboards and mice. I do a lot of data entry at my job so I was looking for a mouse with lots of programmable buttons to assist me in my task. I bought this product, along with several "Logictech" mice that cost up to $100 (without a keyboard). After taking all of them for a test run, I found this product was FAR better then the more expensive Logictech mice I bought. The ability to program the buttons along with one click switches from tasks, and on button shortcuts for cut/paste really made my job a lot easier. I don't know about all the media functions some of the customers are complaining about, but this product really simplified some of my professional tasks. I would highly recommend this product."

So far it gets the job done04/20/2008

What's great about it: Works from farther away than any other device i've bought What's not so great: DO NOT USE CD WITH VISTA!!!
"At first glance the keyboard is quite comfortable, the mouse has very nice grips on the sides and seems to fit nicely in your hand. So far it has worked to my satisfaction. I do notice that occasionally while I'm typing the keyboard can cut out for a second and I'll miss a few letters but I haven't been able to get any other device to work from more then 2 feet away from my computer. I currently have my LCD TV set up as my monitor and have the computer in my living room. The device works okay for now, but I'm very worried based on other reviews.
DO NOT USE THE CD WITH VISTA!! For some reason if you install the CD on a Vista system your system locks up and wont recognize any input device once Windows starts to load. You'll need to press F8 upon startup (just keep mashing it until the options screen appears) with a wired keyboard and go through the system restore process to roll back your system to before installing the CD software (Vista should have automatically made a check point) and this can take a while so be patient."

What's great about it: looks nice, that's about all. What's not so great: everything
"This was a gift from my husband for my birthday and I felt bad to complain about it. But after I saw all these reviews, I realized it wasn't just me. This keyboard and mouse just suck. The keys were sticking and moving slowly from the first day I bought it. As we are both full-time students, funds are not that easy to come by...but as a long term investment for my field it was the best decision I ever made to return this waste of time product and spend the extra $30 for my logitech...which is perfect. No problems whatsoever with my wireless logitech. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS KENSINGTON KEYBOARD & MOUSE."

What's great about it: I like the volume control on the keyboard What's not so great: So so many
"When I first bought this, I was happy with it. But soon the keys started sticking, I'm replacing batteries in the mouse every few months and the little pads on the mouse collect so much junk that it's like using the old corded mice. Also, when I use the scroll button to go down, it goes up and then down. Or it won't go down at all, just up. And it doesn't scroll smoothly. I agree with another customer as far as not using Kensington again. There are much better ones out there and that's what I'll use, even if I have to pay more. It's not worth getting something on sale if it frustrates you more than it helps."

What's great about it: Low Price What's not so great: Low Quality
"This product was passable when it worked but after about 45 days of light use the keyboard suddenly stopped working without warning. Fortunately I was using it with a laptop so I wasn't dead in the water at work. Be sure you have a back keyboard and mouse if you buy this product or you could find yourself unable to use your computer. The legs on the keyboard are flimsy and collapse regularly. The keyboard is light and has a flimsy, breakable feel to it. The mouse is okay but seems to have a noticable lag. The software provided by Kensington was out of date as was the software downloaded from the Kensington web site. The price is good but if you find yourself without a functioning keyboard or mouse without warning it isn't worth it at any price. Save your money and buy a better product."

What's great about it: The mouse "looks" sleek. What's not so great: "Looks" don't operate my computer.
"To start off, I would rate this item a 0 if I could. This is the first and last product I will ever purchase from Kensington. The design of both items is absurd, though I will have to rely on previous reviews regarding the flaws of the keyboard because it didn't last an hour on my desk. The mouse only works intermittently and has to be less than 24" from the dongle to even get that much out of it. I use my home computer for gaming and video/music editing, so my mouse is very important to me. The "wrist end" on this mouse is too heavy, making it annoying to lift the mouse to reposition it on the pad (often times necessary in gaming). I don't understand why it so heavy, especially compared to the cordless optical mouse that I replaced it with from "LOGIcal TECHnology" (can't say the exact company name). I am definately a "LOGIcal TECHnology" fanboy, from their input controllers to their speaker systems, but I thought I would try out Kensington for a chance, and I sure do regret it. I continue to use this garbage rat... I mean mouse... on my work computer, only because not having a cord is more important than the mouse actually working like it should. The keyboard sits on the top shelf in my closet, if anyone needs a free replacement. For my home computer I purchased a "LOGIcal TECHnology" G15 keyboard (overkill for normal people), and a "LOGIcal TECHnology" cordless laser mouse (perfect for anybody). Sorry for the long review, but it is a result of using this mouse for a year. (I conitnue to use it because I paid money for it)"

One of the best feature combo11/19/2007
By UdidWhatfrom Birmingham, AL
What's great about it: Responsive KB, ergonomic mouse design, WORKS as designed What's not so great: VISTA - No mfg utility to program KB/Mouse - But work
"1. What I really like about the combo is the fact that you get a lot of features for the price. 2. This combo is being use strictly in the living room for MCE function on Vista to a 42" TV, so there will not be heavy typing on it. Built quality: Keyboard has a good feel and responds well during key pressed. The media keys work and respond as expected. Mouse fit and feels good in your hand and very comfortable during operating. This mouse is worth 1/2 the price of the combo. Besides being a laser mouse, it has very good pre-program buttons. Thumb buttons can be customizable (XP only), but only operate as forward/backward/open in Vista. The click wheel button can scroll and tilt, which is nice. Manual/box stated that battery will last 6-9 months on a normal 8 hr daily use on the combo, but there is an on/off switch on the bottom of the mouse which should extend the life of the battery in it. USB Transiver: This device is a typical size for today standard. The way that it's assembled was very cheap. I can pull the 2 side of the plastic enclosure apart w/o any effort. But overall works w/o a hitch. Installation: This is a PnP device and has already pre-config (sync) from the factory. Just plug in the USB Transiver and Windows will install the driver for it. Note: Even though the package does not state Vista certify/compatible, you can still use this combo in Vista. All media keys will as labeled but you can’t customize it. !! Vista users - DO NOT FORCE INSTALL software that came with package. If you do so (like I did), you will not have any keyboard or mouse (even whey plug in the PS2). See FAQ at mfg website. I purchase an open box for 40 Washington and it’s worth every penny. I did consider going with name I know (Logitech – S510) before I saw this deal. Even if I was to pay full retail, I think would have been worth money. Overall, I would recommend this to any one and would buy it again. (Well, after 5 years warranty is up)"

"The gentleman at Best Buy suggested this set becuase I wanted something wireless. This suits my needs perfectly. I love that the mouse has buttons to go forward or back a page. Absolute Junk10/15/2007

"Despite the sleek good looks, this is one of the worst products I have ever bought. Despite plugging the receiver into 6 different USB ports on my desktop computer, the mouse was never recognized and the keyboard was recognized on only 2 of the 6 ports.
I do not know whether my particular product was just simply DOA or what but I exchanged it for a Logitech. Too bad it had to be given one star."
