What's great about it: the lens gets those tight shots with amazaing quality
What's not so great: nothing so far
This is the perfect lens for up close and personal shots. The quality is great and you still get the sequence of pictures as if it were a smaller lens. It is light weight and easy to use. If you want good picture quality at a distance this is the lens to buy with the new Sony camera.

What's great about it: Farily lightweight, and not expensive.
What's not so great: There's a slight bit of distortion at the 300 mm setting, if enlarged later.
Easy to use, inexpensive, light, but don't expect professional results at maximum zoom. I gave it a 3 star on durability, but I haven't really had it long enough to judge its durability.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: You can get up close and personal
What's not so great: Not really great for low light
You need to use a tripod to get the full use of this lens, but it is great for capturing wildlife, landscapes or portraits at a distance.

If buying a Sony SLT-A57 this would be a wise investment. When purchasing the camera I didn't buy the lens. Our family went to Spring Training and took some pictures and I was less than happy with the results. I was expecting telephoto quality from the stock lens that came with the camera. Bought the lens while we were in Florida and the quality of the pics surpassed my expectations.
I would recommend this to a friend!

This lens is great to bring pictures real up close and personal and for long distance shots. Love the range great with the bundle for the value you pay for the package.

This lense just feels cheap. It is great if you need a telephoto on a budget, but other than that, if I had to do it again, I would have waited. I find myself hardly ever using this lense due to the 75mm starting point. I have since purchased the 18-250mm sony lens (SAL18250) and while higher priced, it is a much better lense, in quality and versatility.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's not so great: Does not come with a case. (Hey, what do you want for this price!)
Purchased this lense as a gift for my wife for her Sony A55 (great camera!) Originally got it for her nature photography consisting of birds, wildlife, etc. She loves it so much that I had to give it a try. I found myself messing around with her camera/75-300mm lense combo taking pictures of outdoor wildlife, flowers, leaves, etc. Pretty amazing detail for a lense of this price. Great lense for under $300.00! Recommend a good tripod though....

What's not so great: Wish it started at 55MM
I call this my sniper lens. This lens really allows me to take close up photos of just about anything without interfering with the game, letting the kids know I am there, or tipping my dog off that I am snapping a photo of her being naughty. The only downside is that you can't easily transition from taking photos of items up close to far away. You really need to change lenses for images in the same space as you, unless you like the super up close, I can see your nose hairs type of images.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I have used this lens with Sony a390, it could take wonderful photos, easy to use, and it does not break your pocket. There is one issue that it dose not give the desire result when the target consists of both black and white. This problem might be notice when you enlarge the picture. However, the other colors are all natural. Overall, it is sharp enough to deliver a convincing and satisfactory photo.
I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Good Optics, Smooth Zooming, Easy Mounting
What's not so great: Thre focus ring is kind of narrow.
A smooth-to-operate zooming mechanism, plus very good optics. Does well in both auto and manual focus. Mounts quickly. The only problem I had was getting used to the new generation of focus rings. They are much narrower than the rings on my film camera SLRs.
