What's great about it: Small, fits just about anywhere.
What's not so great: Short life
"Like another customer mine stopped working properly after a year (movies would freeze for a few seconds or stop altogether). I originally had it hooked up with the red white and yellow cables. When I changed it to composite cables, the blue input didn't work so I couldn't get a good picture (all red). I even bought new cables just in case it might have been the cables but no luck. Do not buy this product. It wont last."

What's great about it: all good except only lasted 4 months with limited use
What's not so great: limited life span
"warranty was good for 90 days; we purchased new tv at 120 days and picture is red; technician says connection(s) bad, probably the blue one; old tv had only red/white/yellow cabling and new one requires red/blue/green/red/white cabling"

"I got this DVD player 2 month ago and it never gave me a problem watching DivX or any kind of other DVD formats plus i got this player for my son he usually breaks everything within month but this one unbelievably still works perfect .I also tried to hook up to my Sony Bravia HD tv and it also works and sales person mention that it might not work with some HD tv... Perfect for travel and use everyday

What's great about it: Easy to take with you, great price, reliable
What's not so great: Nothing
"I have purchased two of these and am headed back for another. I bought the first one for travel purpuses but then we used it everyday as our primary DVD played in our family room. The first one was pulled off the top of our television, by our year and a half old son, and it fell on the plug-ins, which bent and made it unplayable. Certainly not the products fault just an unlucky fall. I replaced it with another, more known brand which did not last long at all, a few months! I bought the second Insignia and have had not trouble with it. We have had it over a year and it works fine (also used as our primary player in the house). I am buying another just for travel so I can use it in our hotel rooms. The plug-ins are very easy to use and it is ready to go in a minute, literally! For the price, you can't beat having it in tow in case you end up somewhere without DVD availability. With children it is a sanity saver. One of the best products I have purchased at Best Buy."

What's great about it: Simple. It does what it's supposed to.
What's not so great: It only does what it's supposed to for about a year.
"This DVD player worked great but it straight up died 3 days ago. It keeps displaying the No Disc error despite a disc being in the player."

What's great about it: It played for about a year
What's not so great: The remote died as soon as we got it.
"I got this as a gift and at first liked it because it was compact and simple. Well the remote lasted about a day, ok no biggie until we tried to find a compatable universal remote. Nearly impossible to do so we gave up and kept it in the spare room. It was good enough to just watch movies without the remote but you couldnt select scenes or well just about anything else. It finally died after almost a year. To be honest I'm suprised it lasted this long. I would not reccomend this product."

What's great about it: easy to use, great price
What's not so great: you get what you pay for. the dvd player worked for 3 months and then just straight up died.
"I bought the dvd player cause it was on sale for a great price, but then you get what you pay for. It worked for about 3 months and then died. My son was watching a movie and right in the middle of it, it just turned off and we couldnt get it to turn back on. Works fine, but I would spend the few extra 20 bucks to get a dvd player that will last you awhile longer. I do NOT recommend this dvd player."

Screen bounces up and down

What's great about it: it worked for one day
What's not so great: it's terrible and the screen bounces up and down when you try to adjust some features in setup after playing boyz II men
"THe major problem is that when adjusting the dvd portion of it in set up when adjusting one of the parameters it leaves the screen bouncing up and down and makes it unable to watch without getting sick. Return this product immediately. My product didn't even last 20 plays of a Ken Burns DVD and a Boyz II Men Cd."

2nd Defective DVD player
04/20/2009
By babfour

What's great about it: Easy setup, easy to use
What's not so great: Display/menu items remain on the screen during playback
"Maybe it goes under the category "you get what you pay for." I just wanted a simple, inexpensive DVD player. The problem is that this was the second one I bought from Best Buy and, like the first one, this player was defective. For example, when pressing the "repeat" function on the remote, the display on the screen lets you choose "Title" or "Chapter" or "All" on the screen. When I chose "All" it did repeat the disc. However, the word "All" remained on the screen the entire time (as opposed to staying on the screen for about 10 seconds before disappearing as it should). So, I'm not sure if it's just bad luck that I am buying the defective stock at Best Buy or what, but the search for a functional affordable DVD player continues."

What's great about it: Cheap
What's not so great: freezes, have to unplug to reset, won't play many DVDs
"This item starts to play my DVD, even burned ones, but then freezes about 10 seconds in. It won't go to the menu or eject, but has to be unplugged to reset. I'm returning it tomorrow."

Don't waste your money

What's great about it: Cheap
What's not so great: Very poorly made.
"My DVD broke in the middle of the Christmas movie season. What with presents and the economy, I couldn't afford to replace until spring. I figured buying this would be a great stop gap. It didn't make it to the end of January.
The first problem it developed is unresponsive to the remote. Hit any button, and the response time from the machine is about 5 seconds. It is also very sensitive about the angle of the remote. You never know if it got the signal or not. Wait, try again, wait some more, try again. If you are trying a on/off or open/close button, who knows what is happening.
Then it developed a hiccup. Every few minutes, the DVD would freeze, wait, then start up again. Sometimes at the same spot, more often later in the movie. This happened with EVERY DVD. The DVD would begin fine, develop the problem about a 30-45 minutes in the movie, continue to get worse, improve and usually end the movie okay.
By mid-January, it would attempt to load a DVD, make a fairly loud noise, continue to try to load, then say "NO DISC." After trying many different DVDs, I called Best Buy. They suggested disconnecting and reconnecting the device. This worked for the "No Disc" problem.
The other problems have never been resolved. This device is a waste of money. If you do buy it, keep the receipt. You will probably be returning it."

6 month rental

By scott80

What's great about it: Simple Design, small footprint
What's not so great: longevity
"I bought this unit about six months ago on an impulse. At $25.00 I thought "so what if it blows up in a few months". If I had known I could predict the future I would have spent $25.00 on a lottery ticket. The player stopped working six months later. At this price what did I expect? Also another gripe is when the unit is off there is a red light that stays on. It is a little annoying for a bed room application."

What's great about it: Everything
What's not so great: The flipper
"I have had this DVD player for about 2 months, and I do not regret buying it. When I first read the reviews for this product I was iffy about getting it peole where having alot of issues with it. But I decided to give it a try and let me tell you I do not regret it. In the 2 months that I have had it I have had no issues with it. Plus set up was easy and it is very easy to use. The only problem I see is that the flipper is ugly and not very easy to use, but after using it for a while you get use to where the buttons are and then it is no big deal. I would diffinatly buy this product again."

Great Buy!

What's great about it: Simple, reliable, compact
What's not so great: Small delay for disc ejection
"I bought this product because it was the cheapest. I also got a 2 year warranty with it. I have yet to use that warranty at all. This player has been flawless for me, unlike other name brand players I've had in my home.
One thing to note is that the disc takes a few seconds to eject after pressing the button. I noticed some reviews complaining the disc would not come out. This may be true, but I feel some of it is probably because people keep pressing the button and lack patience!
In conclusion, this is an awesome player for basic needs. Everything is going to Blu-Ray now, but this is great for a kids room or spare TV!"
