"I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS CAMERA. PHOTOGRAPHY IS A HOBBY OF MINE AND THIS CAMERA TAKES PHENOMENAL PICTURES,IT CAN BE A LITTLE CONFUSING AT TIMES BUT I USE MY CAMERA FOR MY DAUGHTERS SOCCER GAMES ALOT SO I GET TO PLAY AROUND WITH THE DIFFERENT SETTINGS.I WOULD RECOMMEND TAKING COURSES OR LEARNING MORE ABOUT THE SETTINGS IF YOU ARE NOT A PROFESSIONAL,GET TO KNOW YOUR CAMERA OR ELSE YOU ARE WASTING YOUR MONEY."

"We have been waiting and waiting for a 10mp to be in our price range and WOW. We went to get a Sony and got so much more. Ive been hobbie shooting for some time and couldn't wait to get away from the point and shoot. This was the best one for the money.. Clean and crisp..

What's great about it: Price, weight, durability
What's not so great: not much
"for the price at the moment, a kitted d80 at $899 is pretty amazing. especially looking back a year ago with the price and seeing the results you can get with this camera.
hard to argue against it...
it's light, durable, comes with a great walk around... 10.2mp is still more than most will ever need...
it has become the new d40 so to speak... the entry camera moved up from a d40 to the d80 and i bet you will be seeing mroe and mroe people with it.
check out some of the flickr pools of the d80 and you will want to head out right away to grab one!"

What's great about it: Beautiful Images, Clear Display, Big Screen, Many Options
What's not so great: Somewhat Confusing, Not for new users
"This is a beautiful camera, it is sleek and black, looks very professional and is fairly easy to use. It takes very beautiful 10.2 MegaPixel pictures but it is fairly slow, if you are good at panning while taking pictures I believe that action shots will come out very well for you. It is a good camera for amateurs in the sense that you can take great pictures by just turning on the camera and taking pictures. If you start to dive into changing the settings you may get lost if you don't already understand them. all in all, I would suggest this camera to pros and amateurs alike... if you have the money for it."

"I love this camera!!!!! It takes excellent shots that look professional. The lens that comes with it has a great far zoom. It has manual and automatic features. I would get another nikon and recommend nikon to everyone and anyone I know!!!!"

Excellent camera

What's great about it: Nikon quality, excellent value, extremely versatile
What's not so great: none so far
"I have owned Nikon and Pentax cameras before. The D80 takes my breath away. I am an intermediate level photographer who is mostly a hobby photographer. I have worked for my University yearbook and journal in the past.
With a little bit of study, the camera is very straightforward and advanced features are quickly accessible. The camera is a great fit in my hands and has the interchangeable lens feature plus bracketing which I am excited about. It is reasonably priced for what it offers. It has the awesome ability to simplify things for a novice and get as complicated as you want for someone wanting to experiment. The 18-135 lens is an adequate lens the VR lenses are better. You tube has some great starter videos for the D80 if you want to take classes."

What's great about it: Makes you feel like a professional photographer

"This camera has allowed me to take pictures that have made some professional's wonder how I did it. I have taken some of the most amazing wild life, flowers and pictures of my grandson. The more I learn about the camera the better I am getting. There is a small learning curve but the staff at Best Buy has gone out of their way anytime I went in with a question. They are helping me make decisions as to what accessories to purchase now and what to add later. Nikon has a wonderful web site with short tutorials about the camera that is very helpful. I really enjoy the different methods of shooting and being able to edit on the spot. I have done several shoots for my employer and they are more pleased than with the professional they hired. I cannot recomend this camera and the professional staff at Best Buy enough."

"This camera is ideal for either beginners or professional photographers! It is very user friendly, and has great editing features that do not require a computer. Photographs will have excellent and clear quality! Therefore, this camera can be used for sports pictures, portraits, nature shots, etc. I love this camera and I'd recommend it to anyone! What's great about it: Great picture quality, easy of controls, good price
What's not so great: Lens is slightly poor quality
"This camera is great for beginner and intermediate photographers. The controls are easy to use, however, not as easy to figure out as the D70s. The lens in the lens kit version is not the best lens in the world. When put on automatic it often comes out slightly blurry. Even with that slight drawback this camera is amazing. If placed with another lens the picture quality is superb."

What's great about it: Ease of use, fast shutter speed
"I've had a couple of digital cameras but this is by far the best camera I've owned. I've taken in on several trips and have been able to capture some photos that I would not have been able to get with a point and shoot camera. The fast shutter speed is a real plus. I like the window on the top of the camera that allows me to see what all the settings are at a glance. This camera is a little heavy with my 70-300 VR lens that I use with it on occasion but the photos that I've gotten with that settup have been wonderful. If going from a p&s camera to an SLR there is a bit of a learning curve but the results from spending a little time with this are certainly worth it. If you don't feel like using any of the settings that allow you to do more creative photography, there's always the "auto" setting. Can't go too wrong with that. I recommend this camera!"

What's great about it: Light weight, comfortable to hold and use. fantastic image quality
What's not so great: UH, UM, Ah, I got nothing. Accept I can't seem to put it down. It goes everywhere with me
"As one would expect from NIKON. this camera delivers on it's promises and is a feather in nikons cap. The D80 delivers professional quality images at a medium price range. I'm under funded one might say. So I could not afford the D-300 professional grade Nikon. I was concerned that I was sacrificing quality by going with the D80. Not SO!!
The D80 far faster than my old camera, gives crisper cleaner images and data storage is much faster. The D80 is extremely capable and versatile. I use it for terrestrial and astro-photography. It works on everything from Bugs to Binary stars. Geese to Galaxies. I could go on all day but my D80 is callind me to go out and play.. Get one you won't regret it"

"This camera is perfect for a beginner to intermediate level photographer. The features are easy to use, yet there is a lot to learn. If you add the battery pack, your FPS will increase as well as the battery life which is outstanding even without the battery pack. I would recommend this camera to anyone who wants a high end beginner to intermediate level camera. The next step up is the D300 which is a Pro level camera with features that the average consumer will never use and costs about a grand more, so pick up the D80 and enjoy taking pictures!!!"

What's great about it: One of the best in the market.
What's not so great: NONE
"This camera has lots of features which are usually seen in softwares. After taking pictures by few clicks you can adjust the picture without any help of computer, create a black and white out of color picture without changing anything. The primary lens you receive with this camera has lot of functions. I haven't tried a VR lens, it is hard to comment how good is having a VR lens. One time battery charge take atleast 1000 pictures which keeps you off from buying additional battery for spare.
I use for all my family, sports, night, scenic shots. You will love it and will get to know how far you can take this camera to see its professional touch for the shots you take.
My next take is adding an external flash to this camera and take more professional type pictures even in very low light - mainly indoors with big gathering in small areas.
Its a great camera for beginners to professionals. And I am a fan of NIKON."
