Very Good...But   07/22/2008
By ChrisINColumbus from Columbus, OH

What's great about it: It does what it promises to do
What's not so great: Only 1 remote can be used when boxes are the same

"Nothing can beat the Harmony 890 as far as RF remotes go. However, for a simple set up, we didn't want to spend nearly $300 for another Harmony. We decided to give the Universal a try and it works. It's limited in its ability to customize features to match the workings of your original remote. But if you want that, you need to pay more. For a basic TV, DVD and DVR box it "works". We have Directv which uses the same signal for all of its boxes. We set up the first one...no problem. We went to set up the other room and...problem. The remote in the second room started changing the channels for the Dtv boxes in the first and vice versa. So we took one back and are trying to figure out that room. But it works well in the more important room. Bottom line is if you need one great but if you need two to work in two different rooms that use the same box you will be operating both everytime you press a button."

Almost Too Easy!   07/07/2008
By teheller from Miami, FL

What's great about it: Ease of Use
What's not so great: None

"Very easy to program and use. I was considering spending $400+ for a remote that uses radio frequency. I would have had to spend another $400+ to have someone install it. For less than $130 I was able to do it all myself. Just as important, I do not need to contact a technician if something goes wrong with my system or I want to add/change anything. I can do it myself! I HIGHLY recommend this product."

Works Perfect   05/11/2008
By Skepticus from San Antonio, Texas

What's great about it: Goes through wall as advertised
What's not so great: None so far

"I had planned to have my TV mounted above fireplace and there was no good spot in the room to place components. So I had all the wiring run into the utility room when the house was built. They ran a special wire which was supposed to be used to hook up a "repeater" so the remote control signal would transfer from one room to another. However, after I bought my TV, I called the company out to actually hook up the wires for the remote repeater and provide me with the right transmitter box, they wanted to charge me $350.00! And to make matters worse, it would only come with 4 inputs for components, and no universal remote. When I saw this at Best Buy, I thought "This looks to easy -- it probably won't work right." Even one of the clerks wasn't sure if it was the right solution for me. Well I took a chance anyway and I am so glad I did. It was easy to setup and now I can control all the components from the other room."

Rare Find   04/04/2008
By NorthCarolina

What's great about it: Easy Install, Price
What's not so great: Lack of complex LCD, Lack of Computer setup

"Rarely does a product live up to its expectations. I moved into a new house where the previous owner had a setup a complex network to control all components via touchpad. All components where wired into a separate room. A friend recommended this product and I was skeptical based on price (you know...get what you pay for). I was plesantly surprised at the ease to set it up, and how well it worked. What a find at $125!!!!"

Pretty Cool Remote   11/29/2007
By Serry

What's great about it: Cost; Basic Programming is simple
What's not so great: Advance Programming may take a little more time

"I actually purchased the Harmony remote (I think the 600 series one that was around $150). I did really like that remote but it wouldn't work to the components inside the closet. So, I would have had to purchase the $350 Harmony and decided to look elsewhere.

This remote is great! You can't beat the price for what all you are getting. The powerblaster works great and I didn't have to worry with the extenders. The basic programming is really simple. The advanced programming did take me a bit longer and a couple of erase and retrys. The macros are cool and you can turn everything on with just one click. The is also a "simplesound" feature that allows you to work the volume control for one component even if you are in another component. At any rate, I am completely impressed with this remote, for the price anyway. If cost is not an issue, then I would recommend the $350 Harmony remote. It just wasn't worth the $200 extra for me.

Great Product   11/17/2007
By gpttigers

What's great about it: Great range and flexibility
What's not so great: No computer set up like the Harmony 880

"My 2 HD TV share the same wall and as such they share the same components. I use this remote in my bedroom to control components in my den. It works flawlessly. I also use this remote outside in the backyard to control the sound of my outdoor speakers. I can change stations on the radio, change TV stations, change CD tracks, everything you can think of.

If you have a situation where you need to control IR devices from out of sight, this remote is a true bargin. I only wish they made a fancier model like the Harmony 880 with computer set up and easy to program macros.

This Rocks!   10/23/2007
By FEFEFE

"Holy smokes! I love this remote. I have been putting up with a remote that needed more power. My components are at a 90 degree angle to my TV and I would have to twist and turn to get the remote to work. I just got this remote. Set up was easy. I plugged in the power booster and it worked even without having to hook up the separate wires to each component that it came with. I wondered through my house clicking the remote and it worked from wherever I was. Like I told my daughter, "Rarely to I find a product that accedes my expectations!" I was ready to spend 500.00 on a powerful remote. For 125.00, this is a steal!"

Quick Set-up and Easy   09/07/2007
By boater

"We installed a 50 in. plasma on the wall and placed all the components (Satallite receiver and dvd) in a closet. For the last year we have been using a powermid ir extender with much frustration. I purchased the MasterControl today because of it's Powerblaster in RF. I was tired of messing with infrared in a light filled room against a plasma screen. If I wasn't standing directly in front of the powermid, it didn't work. Now with the MasterControl, I can even stand outside on my patio and change channels! This will come in handy when I later install surround sound out to my patio for XM satellite music through directv. The setup for my tv and components was fast. I didn't even have to use the extenders provided for the Powerblaster receiver. I placed it on the the shelf in front of my components and was up and running with in seconds. Not bad for a busy stay-at-home mom. If I can figure it out, anyone can!"
