What's great about it: Controls LOTS of components and good tech support
What's not so great: Set up is a bit confusing

"This multi-function remote is priced well below units that do as much. It's a good bang for your buck, but set up can be dicey if you don't do EXACTLY as the manual states and even then some of the instructions aren't completely clear. Still, read the manual completely as some of the important hints (like how to reset it back to factory settings) aren't in the index.

On the positive side, tech support is great and proved to be very helpful.

What's great about it: Works on my Dish Network, learning command programs almost anything, lights up
What's not so great: Buttons are hard to read

"I recommend this remote if you need a remote for your dish network, I have model 722 hd dvr and this remote works great on it! But I did have to manually program it through the learning process, but its not that big a deal to do really. I was also able to manually program my Phillips Home Theater receiver to work, and my new Insigina blue ray player, again both programmed manually but everything works! I would definitely recommend this great little remote. Oh, did I mention that it lights up?"

What's great about it: It does learn and it lights up.
What's not so great: You have to make some adjustments to what the buttons say vs what they do.

"This was a gift for my dad for Christmas (he's 82). The pre-programmed functions work well. The best feature is the learning capability, as I was able to teach it to control an old surround sound system that until now always meant the use of at least two remotes to watch TV. This got him down to one remote and he can control the TV, the DVD, the CD player, the cable box and the surround sound system from the comfort of his easy chair. The light works well and makes reading the buttons much easier. The only imporvement I would like to see would be more buttons available for programming."

What's great about it: the "Learn" function, price
What's not so great: The learn function can take some time, preprogrammed codes are worthless

"I will start with the bad. The codes in the book are hit or miss. I have AT&T UVerse TV service and there were NO codes that worked with my cisco box. There were two different codes that "Worked" with my Samsung TV but neither gave me the full functions the original remote had even though this remote had all the buttons. The Macro power thing works great with my cable box and TV but it is hit or miss in turning on the sound bar I use in the living room. I ended up just removing that function from the Macro power up because of this.

Now the good... The learn function is pretty cool. The ability to learn the exact function of your original remote is awesome. You can even cross program two remotes for one function. Even though they did not offer a good code that worked with my AT&T Cisco box the learn function picked it all up perfectly. It is time consuming to program each button (and when in learn mode you have to program EVERY BUTTON... Even 0-9, mute, channel up/down etc) but once you spend the time to program it works great and if you miss a button you can go back and program just that one button with out having to go back and redo the entire thing which was nice.. When programming all those buttons you can miss one or two or program the wrong one to the wrong place and so on. Like I stated above you can cross program which is some thing I did... I programed all the buttons from my uverse remote over to the Universal remote except the volume buttons.. I cross programmed the volume buttons over from my sound bar remote since I don't even use the TV volume at all... So the Volume up and down plus the mute buttons even when in "Cable" mode run the sound bar not the TV as the original cable remote. The remote has a power "ON" and power "OFF" button.... The on button is used for the macro power turning the TV and cable box on. The "OFF" button I programmed to turn on and off the Blu-Ray player and in Audio mode turn on and off the sound bar. I wish the macro worked every time on the sound bar but it does not... If you click on the audio button with out missing a beat it turns on and off the sound bar with one click but in Macro power some times it works and some times it does not.

Overall very happy with the remote. It quickly and easily replaced 5 remotes in my living room and works just the way I want it to after spending a good hour using the "Learn" function and will probably still be tweaking it here and there as I find buttons I missed. Compared to spending $120+ on a Logitech remote this remote was a no brainer. Only difference between this at $20 and a model $100 or more is it does not have any LCD screen or touch screen options.

What's great about it: Can be programmed with all my systems
What's not so great: not having PIP option

"This is the third remote I have purchased during the past week and the only one that works perfectly with all my systems (returned the other two). Especially, my Samsung Blu-ray. It is a great value for price compare to other name brands and pricey options. Easy to use and set up. Note the model number in Best buy site is different than the one in store. The model number is URC-WR7. Good luck with your universal remote serach."

What's great about it: Learning function
What's not so great: Could use a few more buttons, PIP,DVR,Page, Live TV would be nice

"This is a great remote for the price. I can now control a Samsung T.V., Vizio Sound bar, Dish DVR, Sony DVD player, Magnavox DVD Recorder and Kenwood Amplifier all from one remote. I didn't use any of the codes, just used the learning function so I could program it exactly how I wanted it. The Macro power works great to turn everything on/off with one button and the Simple Sound works great to adjust the sound bar volume when your in SAT or DVD mode. It feels very solid and the buttons are easy to use. I considered the Harmony for about two seconds. I'm sure it would have been a neat toy, but this gets the job done for a fraction of the cost. Highly recommended!"

What's great about it: It can learn from original remote
What's not so great: Preprogrammed codes are useless

"I purchased this to control four devices in my bedroom. The preprogrammed codes did not work for any of the devices. So I had to use learning ability. Very tedious I even had to teach it to use 1-9 keys to change the channel. The maco function is iffy, to switch from tv to dvd a three step macro works about 1/2 times used. The "passthrough function to change volume across devices is also very iffy. Need to press keys repeatedly for it to work some functions. I suggest paying more for something more reliable."

What's great about it: Multiple modes to program your equipment
What's not so great: Nothing

"I have a 47" LG LCD TV, Boston Acoustics soundbar, and Direct TV. All 3 items are running effortlessly with ths remote. I was quite nervous when the Boston Acoustics 3-digit code did not work, but the remote picked it right up under random selection. The ability to Power ON and OFF all items with one step is great!
Great purchase / great price / great capability

What's great about it: Price, easy set-up, good code database, & works all of my living room stuff. Backlight is kind of neat.
What's not so great: None.

"I had the URC-R6 but needed another function key to run my CD changer.....so I tried this one out and, viola! There it is. Works fine on all of my stuff: Motorola U-Verse DVR Box, Yamaha Receiver (5850), Philips DVD/DivX (DVP-3962), Insignia 42" Plasma TV (NS-P42Q10A), and RCA CD changer (RP8065). It is very easy to program once you get the hang of the process. The backlight would be perfect for a bedroom, but this one is in the living room, so not really needed.
Not sure about the durability yet but seems quite solid and not cheaply-made.
This is exactly whay I wanted without spending big, big $$ for a Harmony. Highly recommended!!

What's great about it: Name brand use.
What's not so great: Learning function.

"I gave this remote a shot since I hadn't seen any others that said they would work with the Microsoft Media Center remote. That worked and some very basic functions worked on other devices. Name brands would probably work well (Sony, Panasonic, and such) but don't count on the learning function to save the day. Learning was very limited and completely useless on the new Insignia Blu-Ray player. I exchanged this for another remote that works great and is the same price."

What's great about it: The CD that came with had a pretty lady doing the training.
What's not so great: Unable to learn some remotes

"I have a variety of items that I wanted the remote to learn, two of the items had no codes listed. This was for a AT&T U-Verse Cable Box and a Olevia Television. The learning process is ok, but I can see where a non-electronic oriented person would get frustrated. I was able to teach it a number of items that I have, but the two most important, the two aforementioned items, the remote would not learn. I returned it for another item that worked just fine."

"This is the third universal remote I've tried, however, tending to go with cheaper models. I was about to buy one of the more expensive models but ran across great reviews for the Universal URC-R6 model. I chose this one based on the "back-light" feature and so far it's great"

What's great about it: Set up was pretty easy IF you read directions closely, learning
What's not so great: Too early to tell

"When I lost the remote for my NAD CD player, I went looking for a combination remote that supported it. This lets me control the NAD CD player and my Arcam amplifier with one control, and control volume and mute on the amp without having to push a button to switch from the cd player to the amp. It replaces two remotes, and the learning function let me transfer the needed functions from the amp's remote to this one.
Good stuff and reasonably priced.

Great Buy!   08/04/2008
By Anex80

What's great about it: Functionality, learning mode, price
What's not so great: Time-to-program, size

"I bought this to replace a broken Harmony remote. Programming took several hours, most codes did not work, however the learning mode worked well. I found the response time from remote to TV is actually better than it was with my old Harmony remote. Probably not as granular as the more expensive remotes, but for the money, you can't complain!"

Good remote for a good price   07/23/2008
By Dren

What's great about it: easy to use, learning
What's not so great: not the best for older tvs and equipment

"I got this remote because my TV is old (around 20 years) and the remote kept falling apart. Literally. None of the pre-programed codes really worked for my tv, but the best one would turn it on and off and change the channel. The learning feature was great to set the rest of the buttons. My Home Theater really didn't match the remote's presets, but learning fixed that too.

One suggestion, when you notice that the batteries are starting to go, change them immediately. There is a short carry-over for the remote's memory for when you change batteries; but if you let it go too long before changing batteries then you may end up like me and have the remote lose everything it remembered and have to start all over again.

Save some $ - buy this remote!   06/08/2008
By cravnsn

What's great about it: Learning, backlight
What's not so great: Could use more buttons

"My old “learning” remote decided to stop learning, which was no good since I had upgraded my TV, DVD & receiver. I wanted something that could control everything (plus a digital cable box) and have back lit buttons. I looked at some of the more expensive models, and while they look really cool, $100+ for a remote was out of the question. This remote has many codes already built in, but its learning capabilities are what sold me on it. I can do everything from this one remote, whereas I was juggling four remotes before. You will probably need to spend some time having it learn specific commands from your original remote, but it’s worth the time invested. Be sure to read all the instructions as some of the programming/learning functions require an extra step.
Best $30 remote, period.

Amazing Remote for the Price!   05/15/2008
By lkw15 from Alexandria, VA

What's great about it: Easy to use; customizable; ergonomically correct; great battery life; looks great
What's not so great: not a full lit keypad

"I have been through what seems like a million remotes. From $5 to $250, I've purchased them all. This one is by far the best one that I've owned. It's very easy to use, inexpensive and ACTUALLY WORKS. Normally I abide by the "you get what you pay for" mantra, but I have to tell you - that is not the case with this remote. You get a great remote for a cheap price.
Buy this remote, you won't be disappointed.

By sandyinatlanta from Atlanta,GA

What's great about it: price for functionality
What's not so great: set up time

"Tried the Phillips $79 unit first. Could not get the learning function to work and could not get it to read my Harmon Gardon AV unit. This unit recognized all the equipment (found by keying all codes until you get a match). The macro to create all on/off was simple to create however it would only 50% of the time turn off the av unit. Called tech support. They told me 3 things to try. None worked consistently. Set up to get tv button to accept channel change on cable box and sound from av was not easy. Next day none of the buttons seem to work. Used systems remote to activate and then the unit seemed to wake up. Decided to open the expensive logitech 670 to compare the 2. No comparison. The unit sets up via your computer by entering your exact model #s (no searching codes). With a few simple mouse clicks had on/off functionality for cd, tv, dvd, and radio. No real programming required. Worth the $."

Amazing value and compatibility   01/08/2008
By VinnyG from Albany, NY

What's great about it: Awsome design, backlight, high compatibility/learning
What's not so great: none of the presets worked, didn't work at all with my toshiba HD-A1 HD DVD player

"I bought this remote because I wanted to consolidate the following equipment:

Onkyo Audio Receiver
SA8300 DVR
Mitsubishi DLP TV
Magnavox DVD Player
Toshiba HD DVD Player
Playstation 3

First off allow me to say, I knew it wasn't going to replace my Playstation3 Blu-ray remote b/c that's a bluetooth device, however I did expect it to supprort my toshiba HD DVD player HD-A1, however only the power, eject, arrows, and select buttons work.

With tha being said this is an amazing remote for $30, and will support just about anything you throw at it no problem. comes with lots of codes to play with, autoprogramming mode, as well as a learning mode.

major feature that i happen to like is its backlight feature, lots of remotes lack this feature, and on top of that, remotes that do have backlight often require you to hit a button before it activates the light... see the problem? with this remote it has an independant light button located in solitude to take the guessing game out of which button you're going to press...

worked with all my devices except HD DVD/PS3 not too bad i guess...
