What's great about it: Flexible configurability.
What's not so great: It's all good so far.
Most of my system runs on IR control. The Marantz receiver model I have does not work well on a distributed IR system, so I needed to add RF control for it. Using this item in conjunction with a Harmony 1100 allowed me to use RF to IR for my receiver, and my standerd remote IR system for all the other components. The extender is configurable to transmit signals for one device, or multiple devices. That feature made this controller a winner in my book. Logitech online software configures the remote and the extender at the same time, saving time.

What's great about it: Picks up remote commands as it should, easy plug and play set up
What's not so great: yet a few more wires to hide behind my syatem set up
I don't know what other folks previous to me were complaining about.
I just bought this RF extender for my Harmony 1000 earlier today. I got it for $69.99 elsewhere admittedly but... I read reviews from people about how difficult it was to download the software and set it up. WHAT???
I purchased it despite the reviews because I was having problems with my theater system receiving the IR signal from my remote due to how it is configured in the room. It's not behind glass or cabinets but it is a definate challenge to one's marksmanship none the less.
So I got the product home opened it and read the instrcuction paper and went online in an attempt to download the "needed software" from Logitech. Upon my download attempt, it informed me that there was NO SOFTWARE AVAILABLE for this product!! I was skeptical at this point to say the least.
However, I simply read the paer of instructions that came with it and put everything together as instructed and then plugged it in. As a precautionary measure, I updated my remote again with my programmed activities and... viola!!! Everything works as it should! I tested it in a variety of ways, pointing the remote straight up at the ceiling, from the other end of the room, facing AWAY from my system... No issues at all. Of course I've only had the unit for a day so who knows 6 months or a year down the road? Fortunately, I take VERY GOOD CARE of my tech devices and components so expect no issues in any near future.
As for the "time lag" the RF extender creates between the remote and devices? I haven't noticed any that was discernable. The harmony 1000 and 1100 has a slight lag in carrying out commands anyway but I guess that's the price to pay for having the "GEE-WHIZ!! Lookit that!" remote anyway.
Maybe it's because I JUST got the product today and from the time of previous reviews until now #2012#, they've finally improved it? Because for me it truly was a "plug and play" experience.
Definately an awsome solution for the only flaw in a terrific product!

What's great about it: Functionality
What's not so great: Loose wires
The RF extender permits components to be placed inside cabinets and functions well. The placement of wires is somewhat cumbersome, thus aesthetics is sacrificed for functionality.

What's great about it: Effective
What's not so great: Response is a little slower than normal IR
I was able to add it relatively quickly to my existing Harmony 1100 setup (after realizing the Logitech software didn't want them both plugged in at the same time) and I was able to easily hide all my gear inside my cabinets.
If I have a complaint, it is that the response time when pressing a button is a little bit slower than the pure IR solution. The increased latency doesn't matter for most things, but for fastforward with a Tivo it can be a little annoying.

What's great about it: Provides amazing capability for the money
What's not so great: Needs to come with more IR transmitters
I got this so we wouldn't have to point the remote directly at the units under control. Like all things that add complexity to your setup it requires logical thinking, ability to read instructions, and patience. Not everything can be made dead simple for the technology challenged. Those that are technology challenged should hire someone who has the ability rather than complain. The Harmony remotes and this extender work very well and are about as simple as they can get considering the level of capability they add to the system.

What's great about it: We can operate things that are in a wooden cabinet with the doors closed.
What's not so great: nothing found
My son had it set up and running in a short amount of time. We did have to go back and set one of the devices to be controlled with the extender rather than the remote but it was fairly easy to do by connecting it to the computer. It sure is nice to be able to close the cabinet doors! We have been using it with an older model - 1000. We spent much more on a similar item from someone who set our system up in a new home and it did not work most of the time, even with the cabinet doors open. I gladly spent this $100 for something that worked the way we wanted it to.

What's great about it: In theory, extends RF to many devices not in direct line-of-sight of remote
What's not so great: In spite of careful placement of IR emitters, turn-on and turn-off are spotty.
I have a Logitech Harmony 1100 remote with a smoked glass credenza to hold my home theater components. I have numerous delays in the 1100 activity sequences because of idiosyncrasies of some of the components. This means holding the remote pointing at the system so the IR can eventually do its thing, over time.
I figured that, with the RF Wireless extender, I could initiate the activity and not worry anymore about the 1100 remote as the RF did not require line-of-sight and this wireless extender would seamlessly emit the IR commands.
The setup is cumbersome (download to remote and extender) for each little change, but I followed the instructions and waited until the 1100 programming was working to my satisfaction. I used the zone option (four pairs of emitters, assigned subsets of components to each...)
My manuals showed me where the IR sensor was on each component, but I verified using the specific component remote, walking closer, etc., to confirm placement. I then placed the IR emitters over the sensors and verified that the system would turn on/off.
However, in operation, about one-half of the time one of the devices would fail to turn on. Going into "device" mode and hitting power would work, most of the time, but sometimes a second or third push was required.
I experimented with repositioning the IR emitters, but never got 100% reliability, so I disabled it.
Great idea, lousy execution.

What's great about it: Don't know yet
What's not so great: Set-up (no clue as to complexity)
Still working to get things going. Not ready to toss the old remotes as this one does not work yet. High hopes in the next weeks when support center is open. This will either be the coolest thing ever or a trip back to Best Buy. Don't plan on picking it up and getting it to work the first hour or first day even. I can't recommend until I see it working but I will follow up with a post once things are working. No further posts means I returned it.

What's great about it: Finally works
What's not so great: Poor documentation and online help
Bought this to work with a Harmony 1000 because my center channel speakers blocked the new Plasma IR sensor. It was a nightmare to set up, lacking all but rudimentary documentation. On-line FAQs and help were no better. Just call Logitech/Harmony Support!
With a degree in Engineering and more that 30 years experience in hardware and software development and support, I'd recommend the following:
1) Don't waste your time with the documentation; it's almost worthless
-- call Support
2) Update firmware on both units
-- they suggest you refresh it every 3 months
3) Extender has to be paired with Harmony 1000 remote
4) Don't plug both power and USB ports at the same time on either the 1000
or the extender
-- blocks USB communication if the power supply is connected
5) Take care to properly set up the devices that you want to use the
extender for in the Harmony 1000
6) Once set up properly, it works like a charm.

What's great about it: allows control of hidden components
What's not so great: not included with xpensive harmony 1000 remote
i purchased the expensive harmony 1000 remote to be able to control components in a closet. what i didn't know until i began setup was that i had to ALSO purchase the wireless extender for this to be possible... another $100 on top of the already pricey harmony remote, $400. however, the system works beautifully. after a couple of weeks it did stop functioning, but logitech support corrected the problem in about an hour over the phone. in all, i am very happy!!
