Great Sound--Not good for active use   08/29/2008
By Jbird222 from Dallas, TX

What's great about it: Great Sound Quality for Price
What's not so great: Extender is heavy

"As another review said, these headphone are have a great sound quality for the price. The drawback is that, the cord it really kind of short without the extender (would be perfect if your iPod is on an armband). However, if your gym has devices on the machines so that you can plug-in and watch TV, or if you place your iPod on the machine while working out, you will need the extender. The problem is that the joint where you connect the extender is kind of heavy, so it thuds against your arm or chest with every stride or step you take. It is pretty annoying. Also, in my expereice they not very durable. The left earpiece stopped working, and I have had them maybe about a year."

Not Bad   08/11/2008
By wasKing

What's great about it: Comfortable; Looks Nice; Cheap
What's not so great: Ok Sound Quality

"Bought this as I had a 15$ coupon. They are quite comfortable and light-weight (ofcourse). They look nice too and the cable length is pretty good. They sound OK though. I primary reason for me buying this is that they were advertised to have high bass. Well, they dont. But, the sound quality is decent enough for the price."

Strange, yet satisfying!   07/31/2008
By Camilo101 from Des Plaines

What's great about it: Superb sound quality, long cord, stays in ears, different earpiece sizes
What's not so great: Some people might not like the cord design, can tangle easily

"First of all, these headphones have an amazing sound quality for the price, and that's the biggest thing that counts. Second, the cord has an extender which makes it nice and long, unlike my older Sony headphones. These things stay in your ears comfortably too with their "in the ear" design, and you can refit the earpieces if you got big ears or small.
However, before you buy this you might want to know about the cord design: it's "asymmetrical," meaning where the cord splits into two, the right piece is longer than the left. You're supposed to drape the right cord around your neck, and into the right ear for "optimum cable management," but some people might find it awkward. In any case, I don't. Oh, and since the cord's so long and really thin it will tangle, if you get fussy over that kind of thing.

Excellent value for the price   07/14/2008
By Szalkerous from New Hampshire

What's great about it: small, comfortable, excellent sound isolation
What's not so great: bass a bit muddy, cables could be a bit stronger

"Picked these up as I needed a good set for the office to drown out the abient noise.

The earbuds are small, and fit comfortably in the ear. It's instantly noticable how well they isolate exterior noise, almost like ear plugs that also are earbuds. They come with other sized ear fitments. The cable is small, which seems as if it could snap easily, but it also has a a breakaway connector in the middle, which can remove half the cable length when necessary as well.

I was pleasantly suprised by the quality of audio, although the bass seems to be a bit muddy and as a result I had to adjust lower frequencies down to clean it up.

For the price, I am very happy with this purchase. They perform as well as other, much more expensive sets.

Ok sound for the price   06/27/2008
By livecubbieblue

What's great about it: great sound, good bass
What's not so great: tangle easily, cord either to long or to short

"I got these in ear headphones for my birthday about 8 months ago, they are great for anything. The bass was excellent, but to get good base they need to be in the ear pretty far. The cord is fairly short on its own. The extender helps but makes it a little too long. I used this with my ipod mostly so i wrapped it around it, so it was tangled and twisted when it was unwrapped. Another downside is that the bulb on the back broke off without having anything happen to it making that bud broken permently. But all in all these are good headphones for the price."

Great value   06/17/2008
By Clydesdale

What's great about it: Good fit, good sound, breakaway cable.
What's not so great: Sticky cable, tangles easily.

"I'm on my second pair of these, the first set lasted about year but that was mostly the rough handling they got from me that caused their demise. In the end the 'extension' had a wire break in it and then one of the buds itself had the same problem. But with that being said I was not that careful with them so I'm not that suprised.
The extension/breakaway cable is a nice feature, more than once I dropped my sansa and instead of jerking the buds or the L connector it just snaps apart. It'll get you in the long run with the stress on the cable but it's a feature I like for various reasons. Cable is also a bit long but I like that as well, matter of taste/choice.
They're very comfy as well, and come with various sized replacement buds for different sized ears. I've never had the problem where my ears start to ache from having them in too long.
One thing that drove me nuts about these is that, like all earbuds, they tend to tangle if you're not careful..but what really makes it worse is the cable, after some use, becomes very rubbery and sticky/tacky..makes tangles all the worse. I think the ocasional wipe with some armorall or like product would help with this issue.
Other than the tangle/sticky issue these are a great product for the price, esp after going through who knows how many pair of cheapo 10 dollar sets.

Phillips in-ear   06/03/2008
By eldubioso from NJ

What's great about it: Excellent sound reproduction.
What's not so great: Asymmetrical cable may be annoying to some, not suitable to active wear.

"I bought these recently to use with my Nintendo DS and they work perfectly for this application. These earphones offer the user an enhanced experience to the built in speakers. Hear what you've been missing!"

Great earbuds   05/31/2008
By Avenger48

What's great about it: good sound quality, great bass, comfortable, good frequency response
What's not so great: do fall out occassionally, asymmetrical design can be annoying

"These earbuds sound great! they have excellent frequency response (my friend and I tested them using a full spectrum of pure sound from his PSP, it responded from 20Hz to 17000 Hz) and the bass port at the back delivers good bass. These aren't suitable for jogging, however, as they easily fall out."

Weird Features   05/27/2008
By OnlineShpr from California

What's great about it: Fits small ears
What's not so great: Cord style and length

"Beware if purchasing online, as the description doesn't seem to mention the cord style. It has an "asymmetrical" cord, meaning that from where the cord y splits into the two ear pieces, one side is longer than the other. This is supposedly so you can bring one side around the back of your neck, but unless you have your player in the right spot for that, it's useless and awkward (especially with long hair). I keep mine in front, so the cords hang unevenly and is heavier on one side. Also, it includes an extension to lengthen the cord, but that makes the cord pretty long, but it's too short without it. The coupler used to connect the extension makes the cord a little weighty. If you're exercising with it, it'll flop around on you. So if those features seem odd to you, you might want to check out a different pair."

It's OK, it broke down...   05/18/2008
By micherooo from Boston, MA

What's great about it: Great sound, fit, comfortable, looks good, light
What's not so great: Easily tangles, broke down after 9 months

"I don't know how long headphones should last as I have not been an avid daily earphone listener until the last few years. I have bought cheaper ones than this Philips and I would definitely say it is good for the price, better if it was sold retail 20-25 instead of 30. I really did love these earphones and the main reason I am only giving it 3 stars is because the cord on the bottom end is wearing out so I have to disconnect it and discard it since I can only hear sound on my left ear---the the upper end still works great though so it hasn't fully broken down yet. This ALSO happened to my friend, and it happened to him after a MONTH of use! I want to try out the Bose next..."

Satisfied   05/09/2008
By True19 from Southern California

What's great about it: Good bass, don't hurt ears.
What's not so great: one side is longer than the other

"Excellent bass, good sound quality. The buds are this bendy rubber so they don't hurt. One side is significantly shorter than the other so I have to make sure I put them in the right ear based on where I place my MP3 player. It's kinda weird. I've never seen a pair of headphones that did that. Less slack I guess???"

Durable Headphones, Worth the price   05/01/2008
By Medic4 from Baghdad, Iraq

What's great about it: Design, Appearance, Sound Quality, Comfort to wear
What's not so great: "sticky" cord, length of cord

"Bought these to replace the stock headphones from an MP3 Player. These are much better. They sound better and are definitely more comfortable. Two main gripes though is the size of the cord, which is too short or too long (has 2 lengths of cord that can connect together, both are same size) and that the cord very easily gets tangled. Difficult to untangle sometimes due to texture of rubber/plastic coating. Overall, great headphones for the price. If you want great sound, don't expect to get it in this price range, just expect good sound."

What's great about it: Its small, portable and had ok sound
What's not so great: WOW the cords are bad

okay headphones   04/02/2008
By Anonymous

What's great about it: great fit, amazing sound
What's not so great: didn't last long

"Of all the headphones I've ever owned, these definitely gave me the best fit and sound quality. I could listen to them in the car without my parents pitching a fit, but I could still hear the music quite loudly, and they fit in my ears snugly. I was, however, disappointed that they didn't last as long as I'd hoped. After a mere 6 months they stopped working. I was right in the middle of listening to a song when the music cut out. First on one side, then the other. I tried to fix them, but eventually just used my old ones. There was no apparent damage from the outside, and I'm not one to abuse my headphones. I would recommend them, but only if you need them short-term Don't expect them to go for more than 6 months or a year."

Love Them   03/31/2008

What's great about it: Just about everything
What's not so great: Cord length

"The cord is too short, but it comes with a cord extension (just another contraption to keep track of). Once I turned off the bass boost on my iPod, these worked great. Clear sound, comfortable and, if you can get over the cord length, perfect. Great price too."
