Nintendo Wii

Model number: RVLSWC/RVLSWFSP | SKU: 8008559

Designed for kids ages five to 95, the revolutionary Nintendo Wii isn't just a next-generation system — it's an all-generation system. The innovative minds at Nintendo discovered that the evolution of gaming has made video games very complex, and those who once enjoyed playing games with their entire families have become alienated. The Wii is pronounced "we" for a reason — it symbolizes Nintendo's driving philosophy: this system is for everyone. Whether you're a hardcore gamer, a casual player or a grandparent who'd like to play a game with your grandchild, the Wii will provide you with a wondrous experience that returns gaming to simpler times while also defining a new age of game development. In addition to amazingly realistic next-generation graphics and a variety of outstanding titles to choose from, the true magic of the Wii starts right in the palm of your hand — the controller. The unique Wii Remote controller is wireless and motion-sensitive, allowing you to use everyday motions to simulate the motions in your game. The Nunchuk controller attaches to the Wii Remote and uses an analog stick along with motion-sensing technology to assist in character movement. Imagine yourself in the thrilling world of Wii Sports, the awesome, action-packed sports game included with your Wii console. Using your Wii Remote controller, you'll chase down powerful tennis serves, add touch to your golf swing to avoid tricky sand traps, overpower speeding fastballs to knock them out of the baseball park and more. The Wii Channel Menu, which is the first screen that will appear on your TV, provides a simple user interface that includes the Video Console Channel, News Channel, Forecast Channel, Photo Channel, Internet Channel, Wii Message Board and the Wii Shop Channel. Using the Mii Channel, you can even create playable caricatures of yourself called Miis that you can use in a variety of Wii applications. With an innovative motion-sensitive controller and the Wii Channel Menu, the Wii will truly make you feel less like just a player and more like you're really part of the game.

Definitely a Unique Gaming System   06/02/2008
By acurateshot

What's great about it: Built-in Wifi is always nice
What's not so great: Having to aim right at the light sensor

"This system is pretty cool to say the least. I would definitely rate it the most unique system out there. Plus it seems to have the largest selection of games available. I'm not all too sure about having to use the remote for all the features, I don't really like that. I would much rather have the clasic controller being used for most games, then use the remote for games such as bowling or tennis. I think the basic Wii sports games are pretty cool, bowling being one of my favorites. However resident evil is almost impossible (at least comfort wise) without the wii gun. The other thing I don't like is on guitar hero or the wii gun you have to put the remote inside of it to get them to work, that gets annoying after a while. Overall the Wii is a fun interactive system for the whole family, but for serious gamers, or playing new and amazing games I would probably go with the PS3."

What's great about it: Interactive,Family-orented,AMAZING!

Good purchase   05/31/2008
By badpiglet from Virginia

What's great about it: New, different style of gaming
What's not so great: Limited availability on new products

"I bought this system for my wife's birthday recently and was really surprised that I had a very hard time finding it. Now, she wants the Wii fit, but again, it is impossible to find unless I pay twice the retail price and buy it online.

Overall, I am pleased with the system, as she now has something to do when she is bored. This system engaged a person that does not like video gaming and who gets upset with me when I try to play my 360 for an hour. My wife finds the games easy to learn, but hard to master. A definite difference from most games on the 360 or the ps3. a great system for the whole family!!

One more con.... you have to buy an adapter to hook up to the internet?!?!?! With the 360 and ps3, you plug it right in. Nintendo claims if you have a wireless router , it will easily connect, however, if you use the new wireless N, as we do, the wii will not connect to it. So instead of just plugging in an ethernet cable to the back of the wii, I have to go buy a $25 adaptor to connect it. LAME!!!!!!!

Never A Dull Moment   05/29/2008
By IrishlassyColleen from Rockaway, N.J.

What's great about it: Even if you would not consider yourself a gamer - You Can Do This
What's not so great: NONE - ZERO

"Our grown children bought this for their Dad and I can not remember that last time we had so much laughter in the house over A GAME! This is really is a blast and the fun never stops. I've been reading on other sites where they say the games are poorly rated - don't listen to them. Almost all my grown siblings now have the Wii and the games are entertaining. For 19.99 you can get a party game called Rayman Raving Rabbids - Hysterical (everyone should own this game)...Resident Evil 4 - fantastic and if you wanna get a little help - just google your questions...for the full gesto of $49.99 Mario Kart-Just Get It! You have a wonderful system for $250 and great games starting at $19.99...GREAT SYSTEM WITH A GREAT SELECTION OF GAMES! FUN, FUN, FUN..."

Great Family System   05/23/2008
By EricasMom

What's great about it: Fun for the whole family
What's not so great: Add ons can get expensive

"In our house we (ages 9, 13, and two 30-somethings) have every gaming system, Xbox 360, PS3 and the Wii. Except for Scene-It for Xbox 360, the Wii is the only system that the whole family plays together.
I read some of the 1 star comments and if you are looking for "matrix-like" graphics and you bought one of those fancy gaming chairs or you enjoy playing video games by youself the Wii is not for you.
Most of the Wii games "require" you to move around, and that is the fun of it! It really increase the competitive level of the game. I think the fact that the graphics are simple keeps the feel of the games light and fun. ( it not Atari stick people, but its not life like either)
I was surprised with Wii sports, which is included with the console. Most games, if any, that come with a console is usually garbage, but Wii sports is alot of fun. Tennis, baseball, bowling, boxing and golf is enough to keep everyone entertained for a while!
I was also surprised that the system encourages you to turn it off and go outside or do something else after you have been playing for longer than you should be!
On the downside, for a family to play, everyone will really need their own remote (which is $40.00), depending on the game you may also need the knunchucks (another $20) and if you get Mario Kart, it works best with the wheel (add on $15.00). So ONE complete remote can run you $75.00 and you have not bought a game yet.
All in all, I highly recommend this system for families with kids or people who are big kids at heart!!

Great Fun   05/23/2008
By PugnaciousOne from Indio, CA

What's great about it: Fun Console For "ALL AGES", Easy Setup
What's not so great: Online Features Are A Bit Limited

"I played this console at my parents house a few weeks ago and finally just had to go out and buy my own. The Wii is great and literally keeps you on your toes. The system was easy to setup and was also pretty painless to get connected to the internet. The only drawback for those who like to play online is that you don't get to setup a "screen name", instead it uses the consoles built in console number, so it isn't easy to find friends on the network. Other than that this console is great and I would highly recommend it to anyone."

LOVE IT!!!   05/18/2008
By JJ1973 from California

What's great about it: Too much fun. Easy game play. Awesome interaction. Great variety of games.
What's not so great: None really.

"We waited in line to pick up a Wii for my nephew for Christmas when they first came out. The whole family ended up playing it and we all loved it. My husband and I loved it so much, that our parents, and us included, all pitched in to buy one for our Anniversary. We have been playing it all weekend. The great thing about the Wii is that it is family oriented. Nintendo doesnt put out games that are violent in nature and laced with profanity. Which is great because not all people are interested in games like that. I think the Wii has an excellent variety of games for any age group to enjoy. I love the accessories, and the fact that it comes with a game when you buy it. I have and XBOX360 and I like playing my high end games, like Madden and such on it. But I like the different games the Wii offers that the other consoles dont. This is a great unit, and so much addictive fun for ANYONE who owns one. I can totally understand the high demand craze for this system. Granted, the graphics are not as good as the XBOX360 or the PS3, but what Nintendo has done is brought gaming back as it should be. No high dollar price to get extras like dvd playing, music, internet, etc. They focused on making this a GAME console. If you want a DVD option, get a DVD player. If you want music, buy an Ipod or a stereo. If you want the internet, buy a computer. Consoles are supposed to be for GAMES. These other high end units have taken that away, although they are great, they are overpriced because of these features. I say Kudos for Nintendo for making such a fun system, and I am glad to see what a success that it is, and why it continues to be in high demand and sells out. People can appreciate getting a system for the WHOLE famly, and investing in an affordable GAMING console without all of the extra mumbo jumbo at a high priced cost that the competitors offer on their units."

So much to do in a small box   05/18/2008
By gokuss4 from Myrtle Beach, South Caraliona

What's great about it: Revolutionary technology; All around, a very unique and fun console for all ages
What's not so great: There are tons of necessary accessories to buy that are not so cheap

"It's amazing to find practically every store sold out of Nintendo Wii. But it's no wonder why.
First, compared to XBox 360 and Playstation 3, the latest generation of Nintendo game console is rather cheap.
At only $249, if you don't want to spend the extra money on other popular consoles, the Wii is just as satisfying. But you can't compare apples with oranges, so unless you're into the typical Nintendo games (Mario, Zelda, and other games mainly concentrating on family entertainment), you might want to consider a different gaming console.
The Wii's revolutionary technology is simply something I haven't seen anywhere. Depending on the game, it heavily relies on your hand moments and the controller's position. That is amazingly amusing, along with watching your friends and family play.
The graphics are a degree better then it's predeccesor, the Nintendo GameCube, but nothing too extraordinary.
The Wii comes with one controller and nunchuck, but one thing that really bothers me about the whole system is the fact that one controller costs about $40. While with some games you can get away without using the nunchucks, it is a requirement for popular games, such as Super Smash Brothers Brawl, which means that you'd have to pay another $20 for the nunchuck, adding already $60 for just one complete controller.
On top of that, the controller uses batteries... But, for just $30 more, you can get a aftermarket brand battery charger (which, btw, I highly recommend you getting. It'll save you lots of money and time in the long run).
So that makes over $90 of essential accessories. However, if you already own a gamecube and gamecube controllers, I'd recommend using that if you want to save money on additional players. It does take away from the experience but at least you can still play Wii games with it.
Overall, this innovative game system is well worth the trial, especially if you're into family/group gathering type of fun. But even solo players will get some good kicks out of it. The accessories do add up in terms of $$$, but essentially it's a minor inconvenience that is easily forgivable once you get your hands onto it.

The most awesome gaming system by Nintendo   05/06/2008
By Rockstat from New York, NY

What's great about it: Everything + you get backward compatibility with other games and devices
What's not so great: None what so ever

"I just recently bought this system from BestBuy. Indeed, it was a BestBuy for me. I haven't experienced anything like this before. The concept of game playing through motion detection is great. I love this thing as I can also hook up old Nintendo components to this as well as play older games that belonged to different systems. Now this system gives a good excuse for not going out to play as one can just sit at home and get some exercise from this. I am just waiting for the Wii Fit board so that I can have a generic workout at home.

Overall its a great product, now I know why this thing was Code Named- Nintendo Revolution before.

Shovelware   05/05/2008
By Blackbirdc87 from Ocala, Florida

What's great about it: Has simple games for toddlers
What's not so great: Poor graphics, horrible games design, gimmicky, not as much fun as you would think.

"The Wii madness is ridicolouse. You will by this system expecting it to be a revolutionary next gen experience as it is falsely advertised. Well, first off the graphics are far from next generation, just go online and read specs, the cpu and video card are almost identical to the gamecubes, the previouse generation of Nintendo's systems. That makes these visuals next gen for 2002. As for the motion sensing you will spend hundreds over time on batteries and eventually find the they lack any precision and that shaking and flailing your hands around is not a "fun experience for all ages". We have Wii and now that the new "Pony" experience is over you find your left with a system that cluttters your entertainment system and collects dust. Only persobn in household that plays is a young girl."
