What's great about it: price, mulifunction, hitech
What's not so great: *not windows vista compatible

"I was looking for a new remote to control my tivo and I saw this on sale for $119 and decided to go for it. Wow, I'm very satisfied as it not only controlled my tivo, but the tv and xbox 360 as well. I just combined 3 remotes into one and the best thing about it all was that I didn't loose any functionality that would have been in the old factory remotes.

The remote out of the box was not windows vista compatible, after several download failures and restarting my pc, it was able to tell me that it was not compatible with Vista and had to download a patch for it to work. Afterwards it updated the firmware on the remote. All together I probably spent one hour tinkering with the pc and plugging in my product devices. The hardest part was the part number of my tv which I had to turn around to get access to the back, the others like my xbox and tivo was pretty straight forward as it was on the front.

Next would be to intall my 10 year old reciever to get stereo sound, hopefully it will work...

Overall for the price that I paid it was well worth the investment as you can get rid of multiple remotes without loosing any functionality."

Amazing Remote - Actually lives up to the hype. 06/16/2008

"When I got this remote I actually expected to return it because I doubted that it would do everything that I needed. I have a very complex setup with multiple HDMI / component / digital coax audio / Toslink (optical) audio hookups. I had many different inputs to my Harman Kardon receiver, going to my Samsung television.
I had one specific hurdle that I thought, “No way will this remote be able to do what I need.” I have a 300-disc DVD player that is very complex for browsing DVD titles. The original remote had special functions that I have never seen on another remote. When walking through the setup of the new Harmony remote, it knew the issues that I might be facing, created two different options that I could use, and VIOLA…the remote understood the DVD player and both functioned beautifully.

This remote turns off all components that aren’t necessary for the specific task, knows which inputs are necessary for each task (i.e. Tv-HDMI2 and Receiver –Optical 3, for Television viewing….TV Component 1and Receiver Digital Coax 1 for DVD viewing). It automatically switches every component to the correct setting and input.

I was able to create 2 different TV watching modes. One that utilized just the TV speaker and HD-DVR, and one that utilized the TV, HD-DVR, and my receiver for audio. The remote knows which watching mode you’re in, so it remembers which volume control goes with which mode. So when my wife is watching “The View”, she only gets the TV speakers. But when I’m watching the NBA playoffs, I push the Watch TV 2 control, the receiver pops on and the volume control is for the receiver, not the TV.

My wife was able to pick it up and use it with no help from me. And the icing on the cake is that when I change our home theater setup in the future, I‘ll just plug in the remote to the computer, update it with the simple user interface, and away we go. The remote will always be the same no matter how I configure the system. And as we all know…Once you can work a remote control in the dark by the feel of the buttons, you don’t want to switch. We’ll never have to switch remotes again.

I wish there was a sixth star.

What's great about it: easy to use, program
What's not so great: battery life

"This has been a savior for our family. My husband has setup a very complicated home theater system with DTV, DVD, CD, Playstation and a multitude of options. Navigating the controls is really difficult - at least until we got this remote. It's as easy as pressing a button to get any of the components to work.
Notably though, this has been the best for the grandparents and babysitters. In the past, we've had to leave them a notebook with instructions on how to use the system. Now, we just tell them to use this remote!"

"Purchasing a Logitech Harmony remote is one of the finest home theater investments one can make. This is not your average universal remote. The set-up is simple: Install the software, type in the model numbers of all your home theater components, attach the USB cord, load up and bam! One button controls every home theater task: Press "Watch TV" and your television, cable box, and sound system power up together. Press "Watch Movie" and your television, DVD, sound system power up. You can customize many options to suit your specific entertainment needs. If you run into an issue, press the "Help" button and the back-lit screen will walk you through it until resolved. "First of all, it does what I want and need it to. I like it pretty well. The shape is a little akward, when you are trying to change the channel with the bottom number buttons.
Main complaint, is that if someone turns off or on a component manually, the remote doesnt know what happened, so you will have to go through the help buttons to get the remote on the same page... but I fully admit I may have something misprogrammed.
Getting the remote programmed was easy.
Overall, I really like it, and would buy again."

"this remote is great for replacing all your other remotes because it can do it all at the touch of a button. if you want to watch a movie it can turn on the tv and switch it to the dvd input, turn on the dvd player, and turn on the surround sound from one button. it does take a while to program the remote because it is fairly advanced and it does get confused as to if the tv is on or off sometimes (if you manually turn the tv on then hit the power off button on the remote it wont know what to do)"

Extremely Satisfied 04/20/2008

What's great about it: Highly functional, solid performance
What's not so great: Took a good deal of time to set up

"I purchased this remote two weeks ago and am very satisfied -- though not thrilled -- with it. It works very well (and allowed me to get rid of about 5 remotes!), but it did take me about 3 hours to get it set up right. I have some additional components like Apple TV that I kind of had to guess about during the set up process, but it finally kicked in. I don't find the "look" of the remote very appealing -- opaque buttons against silver are impossible to read unless you look very closely and though it may be ergonomically correct, it doesn't exactly scream, "Elegant" or "High Tech" -- but it has made my life ALOT easier. I recommend this product as a very good mid-priced universal remote."

"This is a good remote for home theater setups. It is easy for someone non tech friendly to use. The software to setup devices is good, but some of the default settings for devices are not set correctly which means you have to go in and change the button assignments manually."

"Setup takes a little time and computer savy, but well worth the effort, and simple to update and add special key functions. One button press does what it used to take ten key strokes on two or three other remotes. Threw away all the old instructions I'd written, and wife says it's a keeper!"

"Took just a few min's to set up on line and I was up and running. Was worried because it didn't have my TV in their inventory but typed it in and it set up with no problems. Had a few problems at the start but with a little tweaking it works perfect now. Have been using the remote for about two weeks now."

Good product - with a flaw 03/10/2008

What's great about it: Controls and coordinates multiple components
What's not so great: If you drop it the programming connection breaks

"I love the ability to control multiple different components with one unit and the way you can activate the various components with a single touch. Hit "watch a movie" and the dvd turns on, the sound system turns on and connects to the DVD player, and the TV turns on and gets input from the DVD. Then press "watch TV" and the dvd turns off, the sound system gets audio from the TV, and the TV gets its input from the tuner or cable. BUT, the connection inside the unit for the cord (to program it) is fragile. I had to replace TWO of these when the internal component broke loose -- leaving me unable to reprogram the unit."

What's great about it: The ability to download new codes, and also update the firmware

"OK I've had this remote for all of 5 day and I am impressed with it. The ability to map almost any button the way you want come is pretty handy, This Remote is controlling, My Insignia HDTV, Motorola PVR Cable Box, Onkyo Surround System, X-Box 360, PS2, and My Computer"( I have a tv Card with IR Send/Receive) also my TV is my computer 2nd Monitor. I love the way the correct configuration turn on or off with the press of one button or two. One of the biggest Rants would be that the number pad is not correctly placed to my liking maybe if they made the remote about 2" longer it would be fine. But over all this has been the best universal remote I have ever purchased. The setup of the remote took about 15 min to get things working but to have it completely customized to my liking took about 3 hours of trial and error. Now that it's set how I like it, I can't believed that It took this long to get one."

Worthwhile Investment for Small System 02/10/2008

What's great about it: Easily Customizable, easy to use
What's not so great: Small number of maximum macros

"Bought one of these for the sheer usefulness. Setup was a little cumbersome, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy to set up new components. I just wish it had more macros available. There are other remotes that are fully customizable, and this remote can only do three macros. This is great for smaller systems, but many modern systems have a CD Changer, DVD player, Cablebox (HD or analog), and at least one video game console system. That being the case, Logitech should augment their software so that one can add as many macros as they want!

All in all, it's a wonderful investment, but watch the growth of your system or you may have to look into a better remote."

Best all in one remote 02/10/2008

What's great about it: Simple one touch operation
What's not so great: not all will be able to program

"Delt with several all in one brands and by far the harmony's are the easiest to set up. If you have a good understanding of how to hook up home theater systems the harmony set up program is easy to navigate and allows for a lot of flexibillity in the remotes. For example you can choose the order in which to turn on your components that way if your cd player is powerd by your reciever you can set the reciever to come on first and delay the on signal to the cd player to give the reciever time to go through it's wake up. I have done several of these for friends and the Harmony 670 is easier to program than the next levels up (880,890 and especialy 1000). They are really set up for real elaborate theater systems. So if you have home theater system that is in your living room and have 4 or 5 pieces of equipment (reciever, CD player, cable or satilite box, DVD player and TV) than the Harmony 670 is more than enuff to control your system."

What's great about it: PC based set up is great, quick, and easy.
What's not so great: None discovered yet

"Tried the Phillips new model @ $79. Did not recognize Harmon Kardon receiver. Also learning mode did not work. Then tried the Universal R7, $29. Seemed to go to sleep and had to be awoken to recognize programmed data. Worked through most programming with lots of time spent.
Decided to give this unit a shot. Programming online was quick and easy. Had a few commands that did not work but used the help on the remote to fix them. Awesome functionality and capability. Well worth the $. Wish I had gone here first."

GREAT 95% of the time. 01/17/2008

What's great about it: Works exactly as advertised. Easy setup.
What's not so great: "Freezes" occasionally, drops commands.

"I use this for a fairly simple application, to control my TV, satellite box, home theater amp/tuner and Blu-Ray player. Setup was easy, although initially even though it was set up properly it refused to do basic things, like controlling the TV volume. Then, an hour later, after redoing the same setup about 5 times, everything worked and I have been fairly happy ever since. I have had two problems. First, the unit drops commands now and then. For example, one button turns my TV on, mutes it, sets the input, turns on my satellite box, turns on the Blu-Ray and turns on the home theater amp. One button turns everything off. Occasionally it will miss one command, but strangely if you press the HELP button, it somehow knows to resend the missed command. Also, in two weeks the unit has totally frozen up three times. Removing and replacing the batteries does not help, but if I connect the unit to my PC and run the Logitech software program to reload the settings, it will correct the problem. I have not yet contacted Logitech support. Overall, despite the problems, I am pleased with the unit's ability to control several devices successfully 95% of the time."

Great remote with a caveat 01/05/2008

What's great about it: The obvious-Eliminates the need for juggling remotes, easy to program
What's not so great: Not as intuitive as I had hoped, doesn't always turn on/off all the components, eats batteries

"I received this remote as a Christmas Gift for Christmas 2006. I decided it was finally time to review it. The concept is GREAT. I hated having to juggle no less than 3 remotes just to watch TV. The software was very easy to set up to configure multiple entertainment profiles. My biggest issue with it was, that it didn't always turn on/off the components at the same time. I would have to walk up to the component (defeats the purpose) or go through to turn them on individually, not the intended purpose, but better than walking up to the units. Like I have seen mentioned, I also suffered from the dead LCD screen. The process to get the replacement was a little cumbersome, but I was shipped a brand new remote in the end."
