I was surprised to see negative reviews here. As I already said we have never had issues with this washer.
We bought it when the second child came hard on the heels of the first, and I probably don't need to mention I have done a LOT of laundry in this sucker. I've probably averaged 10 loads per week x more than five years.
We have moved our set five times, including across the country in a rented U-Haul.. Even though the outside doesn't look so pretty anymore, the inside works just like it should.
If and when it ever conks out, I'd consider buying this same washer again - unless I decided to go all out and get something with larger capacity for, say, huge quilts or something. But for every day use, for a busy family who makes a lot of messes, it's been perfect.
What's great about it: Energy Star, durable, effective
What's not so great: Nothing!

I purchased the washer/dryer new in 2004 it’s used almost daily. It’s very user friendly unlike many that have too many features. It washes and dries clothes effectively and efficiently. As it ages the washer gets louder, I’m sure it’s the well documented bearing issue. I don’t regret my purchase and I plan on buying a new one soon.
What's great about it: It cost a lot less to use compared to a top loader
What's not so great: As it ages it gets louder

I had a Kenmore top loader for 25 years...one repair in all those years.I loved it...but I gave it away because I needed a stackable washer that held alot...I bring home LOTS of heavy duty laundry, i.e. towels, rugs, & sheets from large vacation beach rentals. If my client has a lousy washer/dryer I bring the laundry home because mine does the job! Fast.
A few of my clients have this same washer/dryer and one had to repair the door lock (a guest forced it open) and a couple have had knobs break. But nothing major...and they all get a LOT of abuse from guests. Mine too.
I cram mine full...sheets, towels, throw rugs, etc and I usually do 2-3 loads 4-5 days a week, all Spring and Summer season...and, knock on wood, no repairs yet. Been about 6 years now.....I am, so far, quite content.
What's great about it: price and load capability
What's not so great: knob quality

We have had now two of these machines since 2000 and each one has broken due to the cast bracket holding the drum. This may be a good machine for a single person to use with not much laundry but not for a family. The manufacturer does not warranty these the way they should and replacement parts, like plastic knobs are very costly. Our advice is to not always shop by price and beware of what you are getting
What's great about it: price
What's not so great: short life span

I have had this washer for three years now. It was my first front-loader, and it did make a difference on my energy bill. At the time, I was just happy to find one in my budget, but the detergent tray has started to crack. I had to turn off the cycle signal because it just started beeping whenever it felt like it. You have to keep the door open when not in use to avoid a horrendous mildew smell. After looking at consumer reports from different websites, apparently these are common problems, so when this washer does finally quit on me, I'm going to buy a new one (Maytag or other) instead of wasting money on repairs.
What's great about it: Love front-loading. Energy efficient.
What's not so great: Cracks. Stubborn controls. Does not last. Smells.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

First let me say that all brands and models have various reliability issues specific to their design. Whirlpool top-loaders have clutch, drive coupling and transmission problems, and Consumer Reports rates them among the highest! Hiigh end $$ LG's and GE's have electronic controls problems (you want to see something expensive to fix!), etc. Some, only a small percentage so not all of them, Frigidaire front-loaders occasionally at about year 7 or so have rear bearing issues. But you can replace only the bearing only for $20 in parts. Your repairman, if greedy, will have you replace the tub with bearing for $200+ in parts. The bearing can be pressed out and changed separately instead. Nothing else really goes wrong with these washers! They now have metal shocks that won't break. After 7 years, I repaired rear bearing and shocks (with new metal ones) myself for a whopping $60. Easy to work on, too. Very happy with this model, and would buy again. They are simple and dependable - no gears, transmissions, brakes, or clutches to wear or break down, no sophisticated electronics to fail, just simple and reliable work horses. I wonder if some of these negative reviews are actually from just one single individual who would gripe no matter what. I suggest you go talk with your local appliance parts store guru, and ask them about these machines. You'll get a good report indeed!
What's great about it: Washes clothes really clean, easy on clothes, very quiet, uses v. little water, spins clothes almost dry,
What's not so great: Doesn't handle single bulky and heavy items as well as top-loaders do (e.g. big rugs)

i inherited this washer when i bought out house, i believe it was purchased in 2001. now, it is broken in the same way as the other posts (it makes a loud clanking noise when washing and there is something wrong when it spins, since it wont spin quickly, water does not get spun out of the clothes.) i am grateful for the other reviews, they helped me decide to just go ahead and buy a new washer than wasting money on this one...

I have owned the washer since 1999 and had no problems except cleaning change out of the trap a few times. A few weeks ago it started leaving clothes a little damp so I am going to buy another one. Nine years of family use is not so bad in my opinion. 3.1 capacity is small compared to some of the newer models at 4.7 and I considered a larger model but I don't think I need the extra capacity for an extra $600. And then I would need a larger dryer too another $1000.
What's great about it: Value priced, Solid performer
What's not so great: 3.1 capacity is small compared to some of the newer models at 4.7

I have read the reviews on this washer and was surprised to see how negative they were. I have had my washer for over two years and so far no problems. It's very easy to use, quiet during operation, and does a great job on cleaning my laundry. Perhaps I am just lucky but mine has performed flawlessly. No repair calls, no broken parts, and no strange noises. Considering the price point I am extremely pleased with it. My only regret is not getting something with a larger capacity. I am a single guy so maybe the people having problems do more laundry than I. Running about 4 to 5 loads a week is about average for me. If you are watching your $$$ I would recommend this washer, at least for light to moderate duty.
What's great about it: Price, quiet, easy to use
What's not so great: Wish I had gone with a larger capacity

Had it for little over a year and had to have it repaired because it would not spin due to a faulty knob ($300 repair). 2 years later, it would not spin, and I paid $55 for a service call only to be told that the pump was bad and it would cost $300 to fix, but the repairman also said the bearings were going out and it would cost $600 to fix it! I didn't even pay $600 for it new!? Needless to say, I had to junk it. I put over $850 into a $500 machine that only lasted a few years.
What's great about it: Extra Large Capacity, Energy Efficient
What's not so great: Not Trustworthy
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The little PLASTIC drum glide's have broke off in side my dryer twice now. I have one left , making my dryer drum rub as it turns. I think putting rugs, etc in it has caused this to happen. Anything that has a loop etc, can get caught & brake the glides. AND the washer, the pieces have broke twice, that hold the drum on. They were also plastis. The last time i had it fixed, the repair man said they are using steel ones now ! Well there is still something wrong with it, when it spins the water out, it is so LOUD, i run & shut the door, and the drum is not turning correct, there is a loud banging when it spins!BUY SOMETHING ELSE !!!!! I am now shopping for a new set. No way am i paying a repair bill 3 TIMES ! AND for the SAME PROBLEMS !!!!
What's great about it: Takes a small space if stacked
What's not so great: had it worked on 2 times.

This is the second time I'm purchasing this washing machine. For the price--it's been a workhorse. I have three kids (now all college aged) and we use this washing machine EVERY day of the week. I had my first machine for 6 years and loved the fact that it is an energy saver, water saver. The front loader gets the clothes cleaner than a top load agitator type machine. I'm replacing my current machine since the bearing in the back IS deteriorating and repairs will cost more than replacing the machine. I feel that for the price; six years of every day use is a DEAL.
What's great about it: reasonable and durable
What's not so great: low to the ground

I use this washer at a group home and run it multiple times a day every day. It takes people overstuffing, understuffing, putting things in there that should not go in a washer, large blankets and comforters, and daily mop head washings. This washer has been there for 6 years that I know of and I can only recall it needing to be repaired once. Now that's durable. I think the person who had a bad experience with this may have gotten a defective one which can happen. I love this washer so much I just bought one for my home!
What's great about it: Takes a licking and keeps on ticking
What's not so great: Soap remains on the rim edge sometimes

We purchased this item new less than four years ago, thinking it would be the last washer we would need to buy. It started making severe noises last week and after spending $62 on a repairman, we found out the bearing and the "spider" was shot....after only 4 years ;-( and it would cost more to repair than to replace. The repairman told us he has seen several of these with the same problem. It truly is not worth the money. Please avoid the hassle and buy a better unit from a reputable manufacturer!
