Had this machine 4 years - just spent $129 to have a tech tell me it would cost $400 to replace the transmission. According to him, GE is the only brand using these electronic transmissions and either the trans goes or the motor does in usually less time than we've had it. Loved the features of this machine and it used to do a good job on the clothes. Looking at Maytags or Whirlpool for the next one as we can get it for what it would cost to fix this one!

What's great about it: ummm
What's not so great: landfill bound
have had the set less than 1 1/2 years. Dryer works well, but washer started malfunctioning approx. 4 months ago. Transmissiom out twice, bolt loose on bottom once, now basket off it's rocker. Warrenty thru best buy will replace only AFTER THREE REPAIRS FOR SAME PROBLEM. As problems have been different and 5 service calls, later, am not willing to continue... Am sending it away and replacing with Samsung front loader, crossing my fingers... Am discovering so many appliances these days are disposable. I remember fondly the days when refridgerators, washers, etc. used to last for 12 years or more....

What's great about it: Delivery was $25 for the set including setup.
Bought the set for me and my daughters. Runs great. A little noisy, but with the doors closed not too bad. Purchased in October 09, so only 2 months old, but is used often and so far no problems. Wanted a top loader that fills up. Not concerned with saving water. Old fashioned top loader was what I wanted. Bought the service plan. If it crashes and burns they will fix or replace...I like that.
No complaints yet, gets the clothes clean and huge capacity. Both pluses in my book. Will write another review in 6 months and let you know if its still working okay.

What's great about it: Nothing I would have given this a 0 rating but thats not an option
What's not so great: Have owned 2 units both broke in less than a year
We first bought this washer in Feb. of 09 and right from the factory it had a loud clunking noise. GE sent out a tech and the tech replaced the transmission, motor, control board and something else over the course of four visits (not to mention we went one month without a washer). After all of this GE refused to refund my money and would only offer a replacement unit at no cost. We accepted the offer and now 7 months later we are having the same issue with the replacement unit!!! GE will not offer a refund. I am a reasonable person and understand that every once in a while a company may let a bad unit pass through the QA process but after having the same issues with the second unit within 7 months of mild usage I am of the opinion that this unit is of inferior quality. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND PURCHASING THIS UNIT!!

What's not so great: If failed after 2 years
Bought this machine on 01/06/07. Now it is making a huge loud sound while spinning. It sounds like a bearing is going out. You can hear it through the whole house when it's spinning.
I would not recommend this machine to anyone. I paid $449.00 for a machine that ran less than 3 years before having a problem. Junk, Junk, Junk.

What's great about it: Quiet, Great Features
What's not so great: Nothing
The washer is so quiet that my husband and I will still occasionally lift the lid to make sure it's working. We've had it over a year now and have 3 young kids. The washer is put through the grind on a daily basis. It helps gets stains out, helps limit that funky "left in too long" smell, and is overall just a great machine.

What's great about it: It has a large capacity
What's not so great: We replaced this after 2 years
We purchased this washer approximately 2 years ago on the recommendations of our washer repair man. It was always loud during the wash cycle. You could hear the tub grinding as it agitated the clothes. The clothes were also very damp/wet when they came out of the washer. The only think I liked about this was the large capacity.
It quit spinning and draining when it was 2 years old, and the repair man said the motor was burned up. The cost to repair the motor was almost the same as the original cost of the washer. He said he has had a lot of bad luck with the GE motors lately, and that some were burning out before they were a year old.
GE support would do nothing for me, except send someone out to repair it for a minimum 79.99 house call fee. Suffice it to say that I will NEVER buy another GE appliance. We purchased a new set of Samsung washer/dryer and they are amazing so far.

What's great about it: No problems within a year and king sized capacity.
This is a very good washer for the money. Spent much more on a Maytag a few years back, and it leaked within 6 months. Took over a month to get it repaired. Then it was so loud you couldn't talk on the phone while it was running. Fortunately, it started leaking again in a few months, and we went back to a GE washer. I love the king sized capacity on this washer as I am washing for my husband, myself, and 2 grown sons.

What's great about it: Not one thing i will never buy a GE product again!
What's not so great: run don't walk to another brand!!!!!!!
I paid over 500.00 with everything (hoses, tax delivery) and in 2 years i had to buy a new Machine, from the begining this machine was loud. my laundry room is on the first floor and you could not hold a conversation in the next room unless the door was closed, then it made loud squeeky noises then it leaked then the motor burnt out it was going to cost more to fix then i paid!!!!! we are so upset a washer should last longer than 2 years, it is only me and my husband so i was not doing over sized large loads or running this everyday, can't imagine if my kids were still home and i was doing 2 or more loads everyday this thing would have lasted 3 months DO NOT BUY THIS OR ANY OTHE GE PRODUCT!! My last washer was a whrilpool and it lasted over 10 yrs with the whole family so we bought another one....no wonder this country is going down the tubes with this kind of product and parts that cost more than the machine, they really should back there prodct.

What's great about it: nothing is GREAT about it.
What's not so great: I wasted my money
It leaks every time I do towels. I've tried using less soap and decreasing my load size; but nothing works. All other clothes loads work just fine. I sure was hoping I wouldn't have to purchase another washer for a long time, but after reading posted reviews and realize I'm in big trouble, especially with my husband. This is my first major appliance purchase and I am very disappointed.

Bought this about 14 months ago. Within two months the balance ring failed and the motor blew out. The motor (or transmission) has now blown again. Since I did not purchase the extended warranty it is now not covered.

What's great about it: nothing
What's not so great: Over fills. Loud squeaking
This is the second washer I have purchased of the same brand and model. The first was open box so I thought it may have already been broken. The second was brand new and over filled the first time we used it. Tried adjusting the load size and even on lower settings it still continued to fill right over the wash tub. Shortly after this it now makes a vary loud squeaking noise like something is slipping inside. The only upside is Best Buy's customer service cause they are coming to get this thing!

What's not so great: leaks
We bought this approximately 2 years ago. Make sure you buy the extended warranty, you will need it! The lid broke within a year. Then just about two years the hose connecting the bottom of the Tub to the pump sprang a leak. Had it replaced and in 1 week the new hose sprung a leak too. My repair guy said never buy GE laundry washer or dryer.

Purchased this item in June. Broke in early Sept. Parts didn't come in until mid Oct. Very upset. VERY!!! Only had for 3 months and it quit working. This is the second GE product that I've owned. I should have guessed that if the other product quit within 6 months this would too. Just forgot that the other product was GE until I started looking through paperwork.

What's great about it: none
What's not so great: water leaks
When I took out the washer from its box it had water drops inside of it (we are talking about a NEW machine); still I ignored it and continued to install it. I loaded it with a small amount of clothes to test it and while the machine was filling up with water, it was also releasing water from the drain hose. The machine never filled up! Instead it wasted alot of water. I returned the washer and exchanged it for the same product, thinking that the store might have sold an open item as a new item. This time I had it delivered and installed. Now the second machine has the same exact problem as the first machine! It won't stop draining the water, even when the machine is trying to fill the machine up with water. I would NEVER recommend this washer!!! It's a waste of time and money.

What's great about it: quiet
What's not so great: it terribly tangles clothes, it broke within 6 months
We researched many washing machines before we purchased this one. This one had great reviews and I had several friends that had purchased front loaders and were not happy with them. We were confident that this was going to be a good product, so we bought it. I have hated this washer since the day it was delivered. My husband convinced me that I just needed to get used to the differences between the new one and our 20+ year old one that had finally died. I never did get used to it. No matter what I try, the clothes come out in a huge tangled mess. Then, less than 6 months after it was delivered, it broke. It would no longer spin. It took a week to get an appointment, and then they called to reschedule it. So I had to take half of a day off work to avoid waiting weeks to get another appointment. The repair man told me he has fixed MANY of these over the last several months and they don't know why because the design has not changed in 12 years. He said they think maybe someone at the factory is not getting the torque right on the screw that holds the drum, but they don't know for sure. He fixed it so I can use it for the next week, but warned me not to cancel the next repair appointment for much longer than that because it might do more damage to it, causing him to have to order additional replacement parts. He ordered a part and is coming back in a week to replace the broken part, which means another half day of work missed. I am NOT a happy camper, GE!

What's great about it: Large Capacity, failry quick
What's not so great: Shoddy Aluminum parts, loud
I bought this washer in mid-October 2007. It was completely broken by mid-November 2007. Now to be fair, I overloaded it once with too many jeans, but had done the same load in my prior Kenmore many times (and had that for 11 years). It has been repaired 3 times now, and still goes out of balance after 3-4 loads (where I now just tighten down the aluminum nut myself, after taking out the agitator of course). Basically, the way it is now, the entire internal basin needs to be replaced, along with the shaft/motor more than likely. I will NEVER buy another GE product again in my life. Will be buying another Kenmore, this week, to finally put all this to rest.
