The Man of Steel returns to the big screen with this continuation of the icon's film legacy that picks up after the events of the first two Christopher Reeve films. Some time has passed since the events of Superman II and the world has gotten used to life without Superman (Brandon Routh) ever since his puzzling disappearance years earlier. Upon his return, he finds a Metropolis that doesn't need him anymore, while Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) has moved on with another young suitor Richard White (James Marsden) in the meantime. As the hero begins to tackle the fact that life on Earth has continued without him, he is forced to face his old arch-nemesis Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) and restore the life that was once his. Directed by Bryan Singer from a script by the writing team of X-Men 2, Superman Returns marks a return to the screen for the man in tights, whose production history has seen many failed attempts including a famous near-miss from Tim Burton and Kevin Smith with Nicolas Cage in the lead role, along with another from director McG and writer J.J. Abrams (Lost). Superman: The movie redux 10/24/2008

"There were many problems with this movie, the biggest one being that it was, beat for beat, a redoing of the first Superman movie. Everyone from every country knows who Superman is. We don't need the introduction.

What this movie did right though, is introduce him to a modern audience and modern times. While the movie, as a whole, is underwhelming, it was set up nicely for a sequel that, it seems, will never come because like the Hulk franchise, DC plans on rebooting this character. Still, it's a nice movie and if you're a fan, you should've pass it up."

"Superman Returns is a bit different from other movies. There's not as much action as in other movies, and the fighting is toned down quite a bit. Nevertheless, this film soars. Why? Because the action has been replaced with an excellent story. Superman doesn't just have to save the world; he also has to win back Lois Lane, who has chosen to move on since Superman's departure. We get to see a hero's personal struggles in addition to his normal conflict with evil. Finally, by the end of the movie, we watch in awe as Superman performs an immense act of self-sacrifice. It left me breathless, and I ho[e it does the same to you.
Go watch Superman Returns. Once again, you'll believe a man can fly."

What's great about it: great, personal story
What's not so great: could have used a bit more action

"After numerous failed scripts and numerous directors, finally a story to bring Superman back into theaters, and directed by Bryan Singer of the X-men and X-men 2 movies.
Yes, it could have used a bit more action, but the personal story shined through to give Superman an extra dimension."
