What's great about it: Easy to set up and very fast What's not so great: Nothing so far
"I bought this router to replace an aging router with sporadic issues. The range on this router is great throughout the entire house. The internal circuitry to support the 1Gb connection appears to increase throughput through the router even when connected to the router via Wi-Fi. The 1Gb wired connection substantially increases throughput to other local devices. The router’s internal software has many options for controlling/protecting the WAN and LAN. The only downside I’ve found so far is that the internal software doesn’t compute Wi-Fi access keys from a passphase, but I can live with that. Overall, I’d say that this is an excellent home/small business router for the money."

What's great about it: Does what it says. The USB port can be used as a print server What's not so great: Need to add more software
"Need shareport software to use USB print shareiing. The only problem with that is that only one computer can share the printer. If you are using it on one computer you have to disconnect for another computer to use the printer. The install went really easy and fast. Had no problem encrypting the signal."

What's great about it: very configurable; works as advertised What's not so great: none that I've found yet
"I purchased this to replace a broken Belkin N1 Vision after wasting an afternoon trying to get a new Linksys working. This installed easily and was working in no time flat. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of configuration that could be done on this router - not as much as routers running DD-WRT but much, much more that the Linksys I returned and infinitely better than the Belkin. If you want/need to configure a lot of different parms on your router, I recommend this one. I was able to easily configure the QoS engine on it to work with my VoIP phone line so I don't hear poor audio when downloading files.
Hopefully, this one works for a good long time."

What's great about it: Good price for N router; recent firmware upgrade allows USB port sharing What's not so great: lousy customer service; no Mac/*nix support for USB port sharing
"I bought this router to replace an older and dying D-Link router. I have now owned this router for a little less than a year, and this router has never failed me. My biggest tip for those out there is to be sure to upgrade your firmware. This allows for better performance and fewer signal drop-offs. It also allows for sharing of the USB port on the back of the router, so you can also turn this router into a network-attached-storage device and/or print-server. The bad news is that at the moment, the USB port-sharing only works for Windows computers. If you have problems, be very wary of the customer support. I've had problems with other D-Link products, and the customer response is abysmal."

What's great about it: Outstanding mixed 11g/11n range and speed, USB shareport. What's not so great: Cost, otherwise none.
"I purchased this DIR-655 wireless router to replace a much older generation D-Link that was causing issues with my XBox Live wireless connection. Originally I had this router with all 11g clients including my XBox and it was able to give better connections at farther distances on all my devices. I eventually bought a D-Link DAP-1522 Wireless Bridge for my XBox, TiVo, and a computer to all plug into giving 11n speeds and range to these three devices even with a couple 11g clients still on the network. I haven't made use of the USB shareport yet but it definitely helps to justify the $99.99 price tag."

What's great about it: Good speed, extremely simple install, tons of features What's not so great: Range is less than my old 802.11b router!
"It's crazy, given that 802.11n is supposed to have a much larger range than 802.11b/g, but when I swapped in this router I went from 100% signal strength to my PS3 in the next room to 80%, and I went from 80% strength to my computer in the basement to 45%! My whole point in upgrading was to get better performance, so these signal strength numbers are disappointing. But, despite the lower signal strength, my throughput is much faster. I now regularly get Internet download speeds of 1MB/s wirelessly where my average was about 300KB/s with my old router. Unlike other reviewers, I have no heat issue with my router: the metal bottom gets warm (not hot) but the plastic housing is always room temp. Since it has 3 antennas I will have to play around with their orientations to see if the signal strength improves.
Since I upgraded from the really slow 802.11b standard, it's possible that a cheap 802.11g router might have given me the same performance improvement since 1MB/s (8M bps) is about the limit of my Internet connection...I don't have a 802.11g to compare it to. Regardless, I still recommend this router. The installation was amazingly simple, it supports every network feature I can think of wanting in a home network (port forwarding, QOS, etc.), is reasonably priced (at the time of writing this), and so far seems to operate reliably."

"First off, the really tough thing about wireless routers is that your performance can vary dramatically from someone elses. Whether its your hardware, your software, spyware, configuration of your house, your ISP, what type of cordless phone you use, or a myriad of other things, your experience may be entirely different from your best friend's. So, this isn't so much a review of the router as it is a review of my experience with it.
The Good
This router has all of the bells and whistles with the exception of dual band broadcasting. QoS, WISH, VPN, Port Forwarding, all levels of security, etc. It has Gigabit wired ports. You cannot get anything more elsewhere without doubling the price. It is all packaged within an attractive set up that provides hope that this will be your last router for quite some time. Set up is easy and straight forward. And, most importantly, you literally cannot get a faster router when within 30 feet.
The Bad I really wanted to keep this router but I couldn't. My main problem was heat. After a few hours of use (just being on at all), this router was almost too hot to touch. I actually exchanged it figuring it must be a bad router but the new one was the same way. And, more importantly, when it got hot, I got intermittent lag via my wire machine on my internet traffic. Games that played flawlessly on my old Buffalo router started lagging; video started stuttering; downloads started pausing. Diagnosed it with my ISP as being on my side of their modem. When my old router was plugged in, all problems went away. D-Link tried to help me but there was a language barrier and no matter what we did with QoS and WISH, it didn't go away. I had to return the router.
The Ugly FYI: Blue lights are pretty but REALLY bright. Seriously, you could read by them.
Like I said, I really wanted to keep it but I had to replace it instead. Your experience may vary so I would encourage you to try it because it is a very feature-rich router. Just keep your old one handy just in case.
P.S. Owned it for three weeks before returning it."

What's great about it: Features, features, features What's not so great: non yet
"First off, I'm a network/security engineer, so I'm very picky with wireless, networking, and security. After seeing the complaints from the Linksys WRT310N, I went with this D-Link, and just picked it up today at BB. Manual config was a breez.. no setup wizards for me, went strait into the web config. I was up in 20 min. including all the wireless and security settings. I have two laptops, one with Wireless G, and one with N, and two PC's and a PS3. Everything works great! Setup WPA2 encryption. One really cool feature this thing has, is ability to configure a separate wireless "Guest-Zone", that you can secure just for internet access for your guests, without accessing your LAN. Highly recommended from an IT professional."

What's great about it: compact in size, runs relative fast What's not so great: expensive at $100, little speed boost from pre -n
"ok, i bought this d link 655 to go with intel 5100 wireless in my new laptop. dont really see much speed boost than my previous router, which is well the best router ever belkin pre-n.
anyway, im going to stay with dlink655, just for the beautiful shiny white skin and blue indicator lights. yea, the look is awesome, but N DRAFT dont do nothing at all when it comes to performance."

What's great about it: Range, Speed, Ease-of-Use, Not as many restarts needed What's not so great: None so far
"I got this router to replace one that got fried in an electrical storm. Due to my high usage, it required speed and protection to a high degree. This router has been great so far! I set everything up one time and have not touched it since. I run anywhere from 3-9 computers simultaneously playing online games and the latency is very respectable. One other small thing that I have found is that after power surges, the router has come back online automatically with the cable modem keeping me from having to manually restart it after the cable modem comes online. The only thing I have done to cause it some grief is that when downloading large gaming updates across the net, it does seem to concentrate on one machine only for speed while the other's latency gets incredibly large. It is not a big deal since once one machine gets it, I can copy it to the others using the gigabit transfer speeds. Overall this is an excellent router and highly recommended for home use and LAN parties."

What's great about it: Wireless works great, nice setup interface What's not so great: won't work with hubs, initial connection to 1st computer to complex, horrible customer support
"Once set up, this router worked fine until a hub was plugged into any port. This caused the internet connection to all hard wired computers to cease. I spent two hours talking with tech support on a bad overseas connection (I could hardly understand what they were saying), only to be told that they have no idea why it won't work. On the brighter side, the wireless connection worked fine straight from the box and never had any problems. I think this router would work fine in a setting where no other hubs are used."

What's great about it: Speed, Quality, advanced features
"I bought this router to go with my new laptop with Wireless N. My previous router was a netgear 802.11G. I got a great deal on it (<$50), but I quickly realized that sometimes you get what you pay for. It regularly dropped connections, speed was mediocre, and it was a challenge to make work.
This router stands in sharp contrast. It's not the cheapest out there, but the quality of construction and hardware make it an outstanding value. Installation of this router was rather straight forward, although a little more printed documentation would have made things a bit easier. Once connected (via a cable modem to the internet), this thing is flying! The included Network Magic software trial is pretty cool and straight forward. It give a nice user interface to the whole process. After the trial expires, you still get to use the basic features or you can upgrade.
The D-Link admin software is feature rich and pretty easy to use. After inital set up was complete, I was able to unplug and continue to manage the router wirelessly, a feature which my old router had difficulty accomodating.
So far, I have had three separate laptops running concurrently throughout my condo with no loss of signal strength nor download speeds. I have streamed audio and video without a dropped connection, and I have played a few basic games without issue.
