"Neverwinter Nights 2 was hyped as one of the games to get. Sadly it did not live up to said hype. It's a good, solid RPG with some interesting story element and lots of the 3.5 D&D rules integrated pretty smoothly but the much touted story and character development were lacking far more than they should have been. The plot is a little difficult to follow. The graphics are disappointing for the system requirements. And the "characters" are not all they are cracked up to be.
It's still a decent game and I think now that the price has come down it's worth a purchase but don't expect to be blown away. Just play and enjoy."

Okay, but not as good as it could have been

What's great about it: Interesting story and characters What's not so great: Terrible design
"NWN2 has many good ideas as far as story and characters go, but it is so clunky that it makes it a chore to play at times. Whereas games like Oblivion seemlessly allow you to travel from one area to the next, NWN2 has to load everytime that you pass from one area to the next, which is very frustrating when it means that you are simply walking into a building or to another part of a town. The sad thing is that the graphics are sub-par. There is no reason for it to be so clunky. The game engine is just poorly designed. However, if you can put up with the flaws, the game itself is fun to play. You can develop your character in almost any manner that you choose. You companions also make it interesting. So, this game is worth playing, but you need to put up with some design flaws along the way."

Excellent improvement of Neverwinter nights ideas

What's great about it: Party system, customizability, ability to own and improve a stronghold What's not so great: Buggy
"This game has tremendous ideas. You control a party of characters that you can unlock quests with them if you influence them properly. This make a huge difference at the end of the game with some plot twists. You can recruit, train and equip soldiers for a fortress you can get halfway through the game. I can't stress enough how great this feature is. You can achieve knighthood, defend yourself in a trial, and defeat the ancient evil. Or is it evil? You can make that decision. There are lots of areas to check out so the game is plenty long, it is worth the money. The PC gaming community has scripts to sharpen up the gameplay (http://nwn2forums.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=569977&forum=109) and help with the party AI; it tends to be a little stupid and wastes all your best spells on unworthy foes. However the resting feature is very forgiving and you can restock your spells quickly. On the other side of the coin, the game has a lot of bugs, even at this point with the latest patch (12-2007) there can still be a showstopper bug if you allow the game to have default party behaviour. So use the auto-updater before playing the game. Go here to check for problems. http://nwn2forums.bioware.com/forums/viewforum.html?forum=116
Overall however the game is well worth playing for the features discussed above. Give it a try!"

Good but not great

What's great about it: strong plot, good sequel What's not so great: poor AI, too many bugs
"NWN is one of the greatest games ever launched, and I was drooling over this sequel. It's good, but not as good as the original. There were FAR too many bugs at launch, and even now there are still plenty of them around, even with the expansion in play. And while you can have a party this time, you get the feeling of being stuck with a class that may duplicate your own in many situations. The UI and the AI are both not so great, especially the PC's AI. Turn off ALL of their spellcasting and class abilities for clerics/druids/wizards/sorcerers, or they will act very stupid. The final encounter sequence was a royal pain in the backside, and much harder than it should have been. At that point, it acted more like a RTS than a RPG."

Great RPG

"This is a good and fun RPG. This one is a little different than the first one, but it doesn't take long to get used to. People are starting to also come out with server that you can play online, like the first one. The graphics on this game are good, the story line is good, and you will definately have a lot of fun with this game if you love RPGs."

Very Good

"I loved this game. Although its linear, the amount of character options and customization is phenomenal. The unique "pause and strategize" feature is awesome, turning the game into a pseudo strategy. Also, the amount of different items in game is literrally infinite, because of the amount of combinations of effects, weapons, and bonuses. To make it cooler, you get a castle eventually which you can customize with a spider guard and monestary, plus much more! Definite 5/5."

For hours of Fun

"If you enjoyed the first game you will love this one. Although the main campaign has limited replay ability, one can easily hop on to websites to find player made modules or a persistent world to play on. The variety of classes and races give the game most of its replay ability. The story line is able to fork into different directions during to game only to reach the same ending.
Spells: The spell effects are enjoyable in themselves, being not just a bolt of magic, but having an orb of fire flying through the air with flames licking the oxygen around it and one can even see the heat radiating off of fire spells.
Combat Graphics: In some games your character will use the same swing over and over. Not here you can see a variety of side swing from both sides, diagonal swings, and overhead swings. The unarmed fighting evolves fighting with both hands and feet. (some games unarmed combat is just boxing)
Companion AI can be unintelegent at moments. That is why multi player is loads of fun and easy to do, especially with an internet connection. Just move into multi player from the main menu create a free account and look for a game with the main campaign or a module you found on the internet."

Excellent PC RPG
09/09/2007

"If you like computer style RPGs over console style, you'll love this game, that is all there is to it. The game is set in the D&D universe (which I'm not too familiar with) which can be complex but thankfully, they have included a excellent manual and have automated some of the harder parts of D&D RPGs for you.
Character creation is excellent but seems somewhat limited at the same time. You can choose your religion, class, look, alignment, race, etc.
The best part of the game however, is its in-depth story and side quests. The game will require an above average PC to run smoothly, but at 30 bucks, this game is a excellent bargain."
