What's great about it: was good at first, BUT-------
What's not so great: company has promised to update & has not, technology very poor for a high price

agree with candilyn & champr this product outdated in very very
sort time of purchase date it will not play all the new Blu-ray dics
that have come out, & company has promised to send update dics ,
then said they didn't know when they'de send update dics, then said
they don't have update dics yet & everyone that called would be put
on list to receive update dics when they get them. Haven't got anything
not even an acknowledgement of anything. Price pd. too high to be
treated like this & left with a product not as initially advertised
by a company so soon behind the times."

What's great about it: Great Picture
What's not so great: Not up to date with technology
"I agree with the posting below. I bought this player 2.5 months ago. My player does not play all new Blu-Ray discs that come out. LG has told me that the firmware needs to be updated. 3 calls and 1.5 months later I still do not have the new firmware update. I was told I can download it from their website, but the update file does not play in the player. I'm still waiting for them to send me the disc. To all wondering, the final firmware update was supposedly done last week.
Other than that, great player as long as you choose a movie it can support."

What's great about it: Plays both Blu-Ray and HD DVD's
What's not so great: Outdated
"Will not play the latest Blu-Ray and HD DVD titles. I called LG and was tolded a firmware update was in the works but I would have to wait until it was available. While I am waiting my $1000.00 unit will not play my $25.00-$30.00 DVD's. Two months ago I would have given this product a five star rating as of today I would give LG a one star rating for not keeping current with technology."

What's great about it: This thing plays any type of movie
What's not so great: won't play MP3 disks
"before I bought this I didn't know anything about Blu Ray discs let alone the player but I am extremely satisfied with this purchase. Now that I have seen the resolution and know that no matter the foramat of the DVD disk I can put it in, I can never go back to a standard DVD player. This is a great player and I would recomend it to any movie lover or anyone putting together a Home Theater System. It's a must have."

What's not so great: no hd dvd bonuses
"It does what it says! If you want to watch both formats, this is the way to go. The only con to it, you will not have access to the bonuses on the HD DVDs."

"I've had this DVD player for four weeks now and absolutely love it. The unit itself may not be the coolest looking one on the market but it definitely gets the job done. Hook up was painfully easy, especially using the HDMI option. Power up is a bit slow (not sure if it's going through some sort of self-test) but it does ask the user to standby. Once it gets through that sequence though, loading a BluRay or HD DVD takes no longer than a standard DVD player. The great thing about this unit is it really does support all existing DVD formats. It's awesome not having to worry about which format the major studios are, or aren't, supporting. The picture is great! Of course,being this is my first BluRay player, I don't really have anything to compare it too, but it looks terrific. The included remote is a sleek little unit that has the capability to control a TV as well. Programming it to do that was really easy. If the price of the unit were lower it would be a little more palatable, but the argument of buying separate Bluray and HD DVD players is cheaper is a little hard for me to swallow. After buying two HDMI cables and using up your HDMI ports I don't think that would be true. Overall, however, I think it's a great idea that was execute well and would recommend it to anyone who asked."

"While I remain a strong proponent of the blu-ray camp, the BH 100 is an ideal solution for people who want to see high definition movies and don't want to wait for the format wars to end.
The versatility of this player is by far its biggest selling point, esp. with some companies now signing exclusive contracts in support of one company or another. However, the image it sends out is stunning. The piece also looks good on and off, so that you don't have an eye sore stuck in amoung the rest of your equipment. Another nice feature is controlability. The factory issue remote is relatively user friendly, but if you have a good universal remote this piece seems to be easy to program and control.
As a piece, my only complaint is a slow boot up period, but even that is not bad in comparison with other high-def players on the market. If you have an HDTV I would definetly recommend this as your best solution for high-def movies."

"THIS PLAYS FLAWLESSLY DVD. HD,DVD. BLU RAY. I HAD SOME ISSUES WITH THE UNIT BUT LG FIXED IT RIGHT AWAY NO QUESTIONS ASKED! I WOULD RECOMEND IT.THE EASE OF USE IS UNREAL PUT IN THE DISC IT PLAYS THATS IT! SIMPLE!VIDEO IS PERFECT 1080P AUDIO VERY IMPRESSIVE! IF YOU HAVE ONE AND IT SKIPS SEND IT TO LG FOR SOFTWARE UPGRADE!"

Format war?....no problem!

"I picked up this LG player a month ago before the new lower price, and I understand this thing is not cheap, but even then it was a good deal for real high-def movie fan. Here's why:
1. No worries about what format a movie is in. I'm mostly watching Blu-rays, but have also picked up several titles that are only available on HD DVD...I don't have to care what format the movie is in....priceless.
2. Some people claim you can buy a Blu-ray player and HD DVD player for less than the LG...but I don't want more remotes and my TV's HDMI inputs are already maxed out. The value of one player, one remote and one connection for all movies is worth it for me.
2 1/2. Secret side bennefit - Its not a fully licensed HD DVD player, so HD DVD menus are displayed very simply...not a problem since I don't care much about fancy menus...and actually HD DVDs start playing almost as soon as the disc goes in....you're not forced to watch previews and FBI warnings like on most Blu-rays.
3. AMAZING PICTURE QUALITY (with the right movies and a 1080p TV) and flawless performance. This is what its all about, and the LG picture quality is great for Blu-ray/HD DVDs and even regular DVDs up-converted look way better than on my old Toshiba up-converting DVD player.
Props to LG for ignoring the format war and coming out with this player....if you're not frightened off by the price, its money well-spent."
