What's great about it: Clean crisp highs, and great sub lows.
What's not so great: The speakers are not quite as small as the Bose cubes.
I was going to buy the Bose system. These were rated as the best by several consumer groups. I can't wait to get home each day and listen to them. Music, movies and just watching TV in 5.1 sound is great. I use them with a high end Denon receiver.

What's great about it: Acceptional Sound
What's not so great: Mids
I acquired these speakers after selling my Def Tech BP7004 for the sake of space. I have had these speakers now about 4 months and they truely amazed me. I wasn't to sure what to anticipate with smaller satalite speakers because I'm accustomed to towers. The setup is a 2.1 configuration: 2 ProCinema 600 L/R Fronts and a Def Tech SuperCube 1 subwoofer. The SuperCube 1 have been the pride and joy of all my prior setups. At 1500 watts nothing really can compete with the accuracy. A/V receiver is an Onkyo TX SR805 @ 130 watts per channel. I admit I lost some depth in the midrange moving from towers, but I didn't loose enough that would make me go back to my towers. I use them mostly for music, and for this purpose I have them wired through the SuperCube 1. Wiring through the sub gave them more body and a thicker soundstage. The highs are crystal clear and they can handle anything that I throw at them. I've been thru multiple other satalites that went to Craigslist not long after purchase. These little gems are marvels and the sound is incredible. They do have to be broken in. Before the breaki-in they appeared rather echy, but smooth out after the 40 hours subsided. They are great for movies, I sampled them with the "Pod Race" for Star Wars Episode I and they handle the grunts and roars of the pods flawless, I was so immersed that I didn't realize that my towers were missing. Really great speakers. You would definately want to upgrade the sub on this speaker system if anything. Nothing is better than a SuperCube at 1500 watts that can keep up with the smaller drivers accuracy.

If your looking to set up a small bed room or small living room these speaker sound great for the price.. I upgraded the sub to the super cube 2000 it's amazing I have this set up in my bedroom for a living I would recommend going a little bigger with the pro monitors 800 or the pro mon 1000.. Over all.these speakers are great even though I still prefer My Bowers & Wilkins over everything... I would recommend thus set up each n every day

What's great about it: Speakers are compact if you're limited on space.
What's not so great: Bass is somewhat sloppy.
This speaker system is for a smaller setup. It works well in my condo. The subwoofer is a bit boomy but the speakers sound great for their size and look stylish.

What's great about it: Sound Quality, Build Quality, and Value for money!
What's not so great: subwoofer is so-so, no speaker mounts in box
Let's get this clear right from the start. Yes, these sound MUCH better than the Bose Acoustimass speakers. They have more range, are louder, clearer, and are MUCH cheaper. However, never forget that these are SMALL speakers. While they sound excellent for the size, they are never going to be able to replicate the depth of sound of a good bookshelf and especially a full-tower speaker. That said, this is a stellar choice for someone wanting a mid-to-higher end surround sound system that is small and packs a punch. That's not to say it's now without it's flaws. Now on to the review:
Pros:
-Excellent speaker design- just picking it up you can tell the build quality is there (they are pretty heavy for their diminutive size!). Definitive is known for the great build quality on the towers, and these speakers are no exception.
-Very good sound quality from the speakers- though a bit on the bright side. This is not a flaw in the speaker so much as a limitation from the size. Again, that mid-range punch is lacking- however, unless you're listening primarily to music (and if you are, then you shouldn't be buying small speakers!), you won't notice. They sound great and can easily fill a large room in a movie setting, provided you have a great receiver.
-The set has a TRUE (albeit small) center channel. Most of the other brands tend to through in 5 piece matching speaker design (like Bose, for example) - however, Def Tech has been thoughtful and provided a traditional center channel. This makes a very big difference in sound quality- the main speaker in a surround sound system during a movie is the center channel.
-Being that they are small, they can literally disappear in a room, especially when mounted on the walls. They also come in a white finish as well to hide better with white walls.
-EASY and CHEAP way to build a 7.1 setup. Add two towers or bookshelf speakers and you have a cheap and great 7.1 surround sound system.
Cons: I'm going to digress and point out that there is a difference between true cons and nit-picks. I'll point this out as I go:
-The included subwoofer is sub-par. While it's not bad for a movie experience, it just doesn't have the same punch and depth as a traditional Def Tech (or other brand) stand alone subwoofer. However, realize that this entire speaker package is $799- a great subwoofer can be $500 alone. My advice is to try it out and if you don't like the sound, add a better one! There's no "surround sound package" that's going to be perfect.
-These speakers do not like to be "over-driven." What I mean is that if you have either a) a receiver that's too powerful or b) a receiver that's underpowered- and you like to crank the volume up...then expect to have blown speakers in the not-too-far future. A great amp is the key to these things sounding as good as they do and have a long life. Don't expect 100% reliability if you abuse them (which is true about most speakers). That said, Def Tech has a 5-year-warranty (and BBY's Geek Squad makes it 9 years!!) so if you blow a speaker it's not the end of the world.
Nitpicks and random thoughts.
-Those of you complaining about not having speaker wire or a subwoofer cable included clearly have never had a home-theater-in-box from another manufacturer. I'm actually GLAD they don't provide the cables because usually included cables are beyond terrible. They're absolutely atrocious. Seriously, why spend so much money on a good speaker package, a good receiver, and then skimp on something as important as wiring? Good speaker wiring (and subwoofer) cable is relatively inexpensive and makes a DRAMATIC difference in sound quality. Don't be cheap!
--The speaker mounts are not included in the box. If you plan on wall-mounting the speakers, then you have to purchase Def Tech specific wall-mounts. These aren't exorbitantly expensive like the Bose mounts so it's not bad, but it's annoying that universal mounts don't work. That said, the mounts allow the speakers to pivot and are great quality!
All-in-all an excellent speaker package- especially when you factor in the low cost. Yes, you can buy a Polk Audio or Klipsch speaker package for cheaper, but I guarantee you will not come close to the sound quality, build quality, or longevity of these.

What's great about it: Superior sound for only $800.
What's not so great: No speaker wires or sub woofer cable.
I almost returned this until I wired it "my way". The manual says for best sound, to wire the speakers to the sub woofer then to the amplifier/receiver (similar to a Bose setup). I did it their way and had VERY disappointing bass. I personally like my house to shake when there is an explosion in a movie but with the suggested setup I'd be lucky to even feel the bass from across the room. So I wired it the standard way (directly to the receiver) and wha'la, awesome sound. I don't know if it was because my receiver auto calibrates for the best sound or what, but standard wiring worked best for my setup. So onto the sound, AWESOME. Very clean highs and good bass. The speakers are perfectly matched for sound, so you dont have to keep lower or raising the volume when watching a loud or quiet part of a movie. I've owned Bose and Klipsch before and for the money, this is the best. Yes you could drop $2k on a Klipsch or Bose system but for $799 you can't beat this system. Only thing I was a little disappointed about was that there are no speaker wires included, not even a sub woofer cable. So don't forget to buy those. Oh, only reason I didnt give it "excellent" for power is that I wish it came with a bigger sub woofer but thats just me.

What's great about it: Very detailed sound repoduction.
What's not so great: Bass could be a little stronger, might get another sub to balance it out.
I decided on these speakers after reading the reviews. I am not disappointed at all. The sound is amazing. I am using a Yamaha 667 receiver and PS3. Read the other reviews, this is a quality product. I never heard of this brand before, but I will look for it from now on.

What's not so great: I would say the $$, but "hey you get what you pay for" =)
Started shopping around for systems and decided on the Klipsch.......until i heard these bad boys in the speaker room at best buy! I can honestly say this system is better than the bose and klipsch combined. (As i heard a comparison test). Not for the faint hearted as this system will shake the windows. If your looking for cinema quality sound, go with this.

What's great about it: Great sound
I auditioned these versus a set of Martin Logans and Klipsch speakers. In the store the bass on the Martin Logans was better, but I didn't want to upgrade my receiver to deal with 4ohm speakers. The Def Techs sound great in the house and provide more than enough bass (enough to really shake the floor).

What's great about it: Easy set up, good price point, excellent sound!
What's not so great: only issue is that gloss black finish picks up fingerprints WAY too easily
I bought this system with my new pioneer receiver. I initially purchased this as an open box and had MULTIPLE issues. Best buy was great about taking care of these. After having the subwoofer replaced (initially had NO output), then having one of the surrounds and the center channel replaced (blown speaker), this thing sounds great. Lesson learned - buy new next time...because this system sounds amazing now!
I listened to multiple setups, and was torn between a Klipsch system and this one. After listening in the Magnolia HiFi rooms...I decided on the Definitive Technology system, and have not regretted it at all.
Yes, you can buy 5.1 speakers cheaper than this....but you'll get NO WHERE NEAR the sound quality. VERY loud if you want them to be...with incredible, precise, crisp sound reproduction.

What's great about it: Multiple set up options, amazing sound, various mounting options, small., piano-black glossy paint job.
What's not so great: Subwoofer goes on a road trip on hardwood and tiled floors.
Multiple set up options, amazing sound, various mounting options, small., piano-black glossy paint job. The subwoofer tends to travel a lot on hardwood and tiled floors when the bass hits, so may you need to place it against a wall or put down some rug or carpet cutouts or make holes in your floor for the "feet".
These sound incredible in small to medium sized rooms. If you have a larger room, go with the DefTech ProCinema 800 or 1000 models.

What's great about it: Rich sound
What's not so great: The sub will vibrate across the floor at mid to high volumes
I just replaced my stereo I've had since 1990 and it's taking a little bit to get used to the sub & surround set up. I've been jamming with large, house shaking speakers (300 watt RMS, dual 12" drivers, 3-way towers) and I wasn't sure what to expect with this new set up. I was pleasantly surprised. I love the rich sound the system has at low volumes. My old speakers required a lot more power before the low end could really be appreciated.
The one situation where these can't be my old system is jamming outside, but that's not what I bought them for. What they excel at is home theater. My home theater is set up in a 16'x18' room and the fill it with sound without a problem. Deep bass, crisp highs and clear voices.
