What's great about it: Easy instructions, light to carry, Great Pictures & Videos!
What's not so great: can't think of a one yet
"I am an amature video user. The camera I had before was ancient. We have a Grandson now and a wedding in the near future, so the need for a good camera became apparent. We purchased this Sony video camera in the spring of 2007 and we have captured some of the most wonderful and classic pictures and videos of our little guy. This video camera has brought us hours of wonderful memories and will continue to do so for many years to come. I am still struggeling with putting my videos on a DVD, but that's not the camera's fault, just my amature status showing up. It's an natural to take the camera along with us to capture all our events - it's so easy to use and carry with us and the quality surpasses anything I has anticipated. I would recommend it to anyone for their memories to be captured."

Good Still camera

What's great about it: Good Still camera
What's not so great: Video sensor is not good
"This is a great camera for still pictures. I was very surprised to see such a good quality from 4.0 M, but I did not expect such a bad quality video.
If you are in the store, try to point at something with a black background, you'll see the noise on the screen. The same will happen if you try to record in low light places. Don't try to adjust the settings, the problem is in the CMOS image sensor, that is used for processing video. We've tried three diffrent camcorders with the same effect.
I ended up with getting a SR82 with CCD image sensor, and loving it."

Great camera

What's great about it: size,ease of use,quality of video, zoom
"I've had this since May, 2007 and have taken about 100 hours of video of granddaughter and family so far.
I am now the primary videographer of all the daycare events and family events. In the "best" video mode the view on a 16:9 HD flatscreen is as clear and detailed as HD cable TV. programs. The Dolby sound quality is also great, but it is sensative to wind noise outdoors."

What's great about it: ease of use & connectivity. good picture. touch-screen.
What's not so great: ?
"I am not an expert, seeing that this is my first camcorder, but I think it is a really good product. It is very simple to figure out how to use. The 40 GB hard drive is larger than most people will ever need, but it allows you to not have to constantly be deleting things to make room for new shots. I'm not sure how this resolution stands up to other models in the same price range, but it seems good enough to me. Most importantly I have had the camcorder several months and used it quite a bit, and have not had any problems with it (knock on wood)."

Great Camera

What's great about it: Light, great picture quality, easy to use
What's not so great: price???
"Great camera - upgraded from the SR42 because it was awful and not worth half the price I had paid. The salesperson talked me into this one after looking hard at the Panasonic and I am glad he did. This is a great camera that does everything I need easily and perfectly. Stills are good at 4x6 and video quality is great. Using Windows Vista and Movie Maker lets you make DVD's fast and easily. Great purchase and I would highly recommend spending the extra money for this model - it won't disappoint like others!"

"I was initially planning to buy a SONY HD Camcorder.. But when the Salesperson explained me the features of this one I was convinced to buy this one.
I have used it for 2 months but a lot many times within this short period so I think I can better review this one.
The product is excellent, light weight, great picture quality, editing features & being a HardDisk version it eliminates the use of CDs/Tapes.
So it is not only the lower price as compared to the HighDef which makes this a better choice but also the great features & reliability!!!!"

"I did quite a bit of research on camcorders before I made a purchase, and the sony handycam really rocks. It's small and compact, and the fact there are no discs or tapes to record to is a big bonus. I'm a big proponent of Sony electronics, and so far I've not been dissapointed. Great buy!"

"Wanted to buy a camcorder for a long time. First I knew Sony is at the top, no question about it. Second its nice to have hard drive rather then a cd. Like it very much, just remember to back it up and you will have to buy an extra battery. The battery that comes with the camcorder is good for about 110 min.
Now the camcorder is light, easy to handle and very user friendly, I had it for about 3 months. Yes I know people are not buying it for the camera however its great to have it.
You may take pictures during filming (only 3 allowed). The zoom maybe in the shop you think that there are better but I think that the zoom is right, if you get higher zoom its really hard to stabilize it. The bottom line like it and recommend it.
Last thing is the price I bought it for about 700$- found it in a different site and best buy matched the price- so great!!!"

I was running ard a month to buy a cam which would suffice my needs for still images and shoot for lengthy period of time. And no other cam comes close to sr 200 (or sr 300)...the touch screen and easy 2 copy feature wrks great!! Not to forgot , it can easily be connected to TV and viewed. So if u r planning to spend ard 700-800 better opt for this model ............cheers!!!!!!!"

"This is my first camcorder so take what I say for what it's worth. The still shot capability is okay. The pictures are not as good as I would like but considering most camcorders don't have as many mega pixels as this one, I can't complain. Plus, everything I've read says you should just buy a digital camera for still shots and not worry about them with your camcorder.
I like the ease of use. For someone who has no experience with a camera, it has been easy to get what I need from it in regards to filming and putting the data on my computer.
I like the picture quality. I'm sure there's better but this suits me just fine without having to pay hundreds of dollars more."

Great Pictures / Bad Sound

"Have owned this camera for 6 months and have recorded over 20 hrs. and have been very pleased with the picture quality of both the video and jpg images. However, the dolby 5.1 sound is great for indoor recording, but not outside in a light breeze (5-10mph). Most of my outdoor videos sound like a jet engine on take off when the wind was above 10mph. It is OK when the wind is to your back, but unfortunately not everything I wanted to record was down wind.
Overall--pleased with camera and all the functions, with the exception of the touchy mic."

"BUYER BEWARE - What a disappointment. I had the product for only 3 months when the video display only showed horizontal lines. Apparently, the recording head is defective and requires additional monies to get the camera fixed. It is not a good product I think that the video tape recorders (although older technology) demonstrate the reliability and dependability for the cost. Sony needs to re-visit these problems and concerns associated with these cameras."
