What's great about it: Frees up cables
What's not so great: Installation was tricky
"I purchased the Linksys print server right after Christmas. At first I couldn't figure out what i was doing wrong but I got it to work after I got on the chat line with Linksys. Now my wife can print from her laptop while she is sitting on the couch. The printer we have is an HP all in one. The print server makes it so much easier to print from either the desktop or the laptop. i have already recommended this to some of my co-workers and friends."

Runs good using XP to install

What's great about it: Install with Windows XP was a breeze
What's not so great: Could 'nt get this recognized with Windows Vista
"I tried for an hour to get my Windows Vista machine to run the install disk. Took the install disk to my other networked Windows XP machine and installed it in a few minutes. Works fine on my network with my other PC's, still having problems with my Vista box."

Good, But not Perfect

What's great about it: Print from anywhere in house; Easy to use
What's not so great: Can't scan wirelessly
"The Linksys Print Server was something I decided to buy after much deliberation because I couldn't figure out whether or not it was worth it to buy it. After I bought it, the product was very easy to set up, however, it did require to haul my printer, complete with the Print Server all the way downstair to manually plug both in to the router. After finishing the setup, you must manually add each computer.
All in all, it is not a bad piece of hardware, however, I still cannot scan or doing anything other than printing.
However, it was still worth the money."

Figured it out!!

What's great about it: Product works like a champ
What's not so great: Installation was a challenge
"My wife and I decided we wanted access wirelessly to both of our printers - HP Laserjet, and a color Officejet. The Linksys folks were very helpful in getting the printservers to work, but they would not stay connected. After re-installing the software, performing contortions thinking it was a connectivity problem, and talking to four different people at Linksys, I finally figured out that my firewall was blocking the printserver, and I simply needed to allow that address to pass through my firewall. So, great product, works great, but watch your firewall!"

Ridiculously Easy Setup

What's great about it: Easy Setup even for tech challenged
What's not so great: none so far
"I am not terribly tech literate at all. I purchased this printserver after first trying a D-Link DPR-1260. After 3 hours of trying to set-up the DPR server with the help of 4 DLink support techs, I was unsuccessful and ultimately told that the DPR was apparently defective. Within 20 Minutes after returning from the store having exchanged the DLink for this Linksys, I was printing wirelessly through my linksys having simply followed the step by step written and pictorial instructions that came on the setup CD. This was a wonderful contrast to the terribly written instructions that had come with the DLink which I had previously purchased. Anyone could set this system up and use it and the instructions are not written for tech geeks."

Easy To Install & Use

What's great about it: Effortless Installation
What's not so great: Lynksis didn't list my printer as compatible, but it certainly was.
"I love my multi-function Cannon MP530 printer but I have 3 computers in my house and needed to connect all of them to my printer (wireless). Although I've never installed a print-server before, the Lynksis installation disk made this installation a breeze.
I didn't notice, until after I purchased the PrintServer, that my Cannon MP530 wasn't listed on the Lynksis website as a compatible printer. I have no negative criticism of the product, but Lynksis should really update their website because my printer works flawlessly through this device with full functionality.
We can now put our printer ANYWHERE in the house and not have the clutter on our desktop (or the extra cords running to the back of the machine). I should have bought this months ago!"

Only My Own Stupidity
12/06/2007

What's great about it: Easy to install, worked the first time I installed it by the directions
What's not so great: Wish it would work with MAC OS X and/or Linux.
"I originally goggled for wireless print servers and found people had issues with this product, so I bought one from TrendNet. That one appears to be an easier print server to setup, but it DOES NOT work with Linksys wireless router WRT54G!
So I sent it back and bought one of these and I wish I had gotten this in the first place. Is is almost as easy to setup as the TrendNet one, but it works GREAT with a Linksys my wireless router.
The only problem I had was rushing through the install and not following directions. Once I did that, the installation was easy and it worked immediately.
I would highly recommend this wireless print server and I give it an A+ for ease of installation and overall use."

What's great about it: Seamless installation
What's not so great: loads vry slow on VISTA, but works great once it is installed
"Two set up two laptops and one desktop, it took about an hour. The setup was very easy. To save yourself some time make sure you know your encryption keys before you get started."

What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Directions for install backwards
"I purchased this product so that several laptops can print from anywhere in our home. It does that job perfectly. The only thing is that the instructions state to set up print server first. However I could not do this until I installed the drivers first. After that was solved, everything went smoothly. I recommend this product."

What's great about it: None
What's not so great: Didn't work with windows vista business with windows live care installed, have to use install cd
"This device didn't install on Windows Vista Business Ed. with Windows Live Care installed. Didn't work even after disabling all the services. Linksys support couldn't get it to work either. I was disappointed that you had to run the installation cd and couldn't configure through printers in control panel..this one was returned. Don't waste your money on this."

Only works with Windows
09/24/2007

"According to Linksys support, this (model WPSM54g) product only works with Windows computers because users are required to load LinkSys' proprietary Windows utility to communicate with the printer. This was my experience with the product as well - it worked fine with my Windows clients but not my Mac or Linux clients. If you need a print server that supports true TCP/IP printing without additional utility software, try LinkSys' predecessor model, the WPS54g. It works well in a mixed client environment."

Clearest Installation Instructions
08/31/2007
By Bear

"One review I read said that this item was very difficult to install so it was with some trepidation that I bought it because wireless activities and I don't get along. Linksys has done a purely outstanding job of writing instructions, both hard copy and on the computer screen. The instructions are detailed, broken down into easy bites and led me to first time success with nary a misstep. I followed the instructions to the letter and checked each one off as I accomplished it. Two hours after I began I had two different lap tops sharing the same printer. These instructions and the end result were so good that I'll consider Linksys first when I get ready to update to "N" and to extending my network."

Great Product

"Purchased the printer server a few days ago. Finally got around to install the product.
If you do not know how to install a wireless product or configure your router, you could have a hard time with the initial setup, but after its up and running, it works nicely.
Before you install the product, make sure you install the complete disk of the printer you are putting on the network. DO NOT just install the PCL5 or PCL6 driver. You actually need to go through and install the disk that came with your printer, otherwise, you will receive a cannot find hardware driver error. I thought i could shortcut around and just install the basic drivers, but it didnt work. Once i installed the complete disk, it worked.
As i said before, if you do not have any experience setting up your router, get someone to install this for you, especially if your router was setup with security."
