What's great about it: Cheap

What's not so great: Cheap

Took it back after 3 days. I accidentally left a movie playing all night and when I woke up found that most of the color had bled out of the picture. It wasn't a problem with the TV. Problem went away once I turned it off for a few hours. I didn't bother waiting to see if it happened again. Instead I returned it and bought something better.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: Playback formats, HDMI compatible

What's not so great: No eject button on remote (no biggy)

I've had this DVD player for about 6 months and I haven't had any problems. I like that I can watch virtually any video format on it. Also the HDMI output (cable included) is a great bonus for my HDTV. I've had a Philips DVD player before and they are a real solid brand. I would recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: Easy to use

What's not so great: Stopped working after a year

We got this DVD as a replacement for an even cheaper player that stopped playing discs or would freeze/skip in the middle of movies. It worked for about a year with only a few freezing/skipping issues. Then it just suddenly stopped playing DVDs all together. I can't get any of our movies to play in it now, get a "can't read disc" error. I tried cleaning it and it wouldn't recognize that either. Since we bought it 14 months ago, the 1 year warranty is over and Phillips has no solution for me. Waste of money and time.

What's great about it: Great price, it plays DVDs excellently, what more can anyone ask for? It's small, compact, and light.

What's not so great: None.

I love my DVD Player. It's small enough that it fits perfectly in my little college dorm room. It's really light so if any of my friends ever needs to borrow it, it's easy enough to lend. It plays back the DVDs well enough. Love it and I definitely recommend it. Plus, I ordered it on a Friday and got it the following Wednesday which is amazing timing!

What's great about it: Huge feature list

This small beauty played everything I threw at it: standard DVDs, standard audio CDs, burned DVDs & CDs, Computer media such as JPG, MP3, Divx. It even remembers where a DVD was in terms of elapsed playing time after inserting an entirely different DVD, then reinserting the original.
For its price, this unit is amazing

I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: small, inexpensive, easy to use

What's not so great: one disc, cannot program

This product is a great buy for my budget. I needed something to play DVDs for my 5 year old. The picture quality is very good especially for the price.

I have plenty of other DVD players that play standard DVDs from the store. I recently purchased a Samsung DVD Recording machine that works well. I needed a player in another room that plays the recorded DVDs. This Phillips DVD player only played one of the 6 that I recorded.

What's great about it: Price

What's not so great: Poor image quality; fuzzy JPEGS

Bought the unit on sale during the holidays to give as a present. Even though it looked very cheaply built I still thought it would perform similar to an older Philips player (DVP642) which has been a secondary unit in our home for about 4 years. The image quality of DVD playback is acceptable but inferior to my Toshiba and the older Philips. Unfortunately image quality when viewing photos is extremely poor and zooming in on a any image is just horrible. It did playback various Divx files, so I'll give it 2 stars for that but in the end the unit was returned to the store. Even at $30 I cannot recommend this model

well this dvd players does play all this site says I had mine for 7 mouth no trouble dvd-/+ R does work in this dvd player and they work just fine. Recommend the people that want to use a dvd-/+ r cd has to be format to this dvd player unformatted Dvd-/+r will not work.
Divx works great you do have to download divx videos to the cd.
Way to go Philips A++++++ in my book

What's great about it: Cheap, multizone, plays several formats

What's not so great: noisy mechanism, lightweight, feels as cheap as it is.

Well, we wanted a DVD player that could also show JPEG images from digital cameras and movies of family events, as well as discs from other regions (that we brought with us when we moved to the US from Europe). This player does all those things.

This player is slim and very lightweight. this is good if you want to stand it on a flimsy shelf, but it just feels like it's made from paper-thin money-metal.

The mechanism when searching between chapters is horribly noisy, and the noise echoes around what is basically a biscuit tin. The noise goes away when you start wathing the film, though.

I can't comment on sound and image, because it's hooked up to an old TV set, through an RF modulator...

I'd recommend this only to friends on a tight budget. If I'd had my hands on this in a store, I'd have left it on the shelf.

If you need a simple name brand DVD player that's inexpensive this is perfect for you. It works just fine for playing DVDs. There are only a few buttons, great for older people who may have difficulties working DVD players or great for a college student

What's not so great: have to press and hold stop button to eject

This dvd player works as advertised and works well. It is a very good value for the money especially being a brand name.Yes you have to press and hold the stop button on the remote to eject a disk but you would have to get up anyway to take it out.This unit works great i say why pay more to do the same thing.

I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Easy, nice view, quality

its a great dvd player, easy to set up and easy to use.
i mostly decided to review this in response to a previous review that didnt like the product, i want to inform a customer a way to Prevent the problem he/she had.
they said they had a problem start after 6 months, well you can buy a service plan on this dvd player for about 15 dollars or so. that way when you have that problem you cant get it fixed, and if it doesnt get fixed it gets replaced. i believe its for 2 or 4 years and either way its worth the money so you have a dvd player that lasts for a long time.

I would recommend this to a friend!

What's great about it: Plays almost any format

This DVD player has been going down hill since the day I got it. I bought it because it will play anything, AVIs and DIVX, but I have only had it for a few months and it has started skipping on movies and sometimes won't even play DVDs that it used to be able to play. I even bought one of those lens cleaner things thinking that might be the probablem, but it wasn't. The problem is just that is it a cheap, junky player. It has never played cds well, it always skips with them. I am currently looking for a new DVD player to hook up to my receiver.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
