Horrible!

What's great about it: alot of play back option
What's not so great: horrible with scratched disc's
"The was one odf biggest wastes of money that I have ever spent. This player worked well for about 6 months and then it went south. Now I wonder if the dvd will play or not every time I sit down to watch a movie. I have a 3 yr old son and I have disappointed him many times because the player cannot read the disc. If the disc is perfect then it will play it, but if it has the smallest scratch you never know what it will do. After finishing this review I will be looking for another dvd player."

"This product is great to have,because you can take it while traveling. Its great for the kids to have,especially when on the road,hotel stays,visiting family,at the park, or anywhere you can imagine. I think this is the Best Buy I've made."

What's great about it: versatility
What's not so great: no remote eject
"Wanted a dvd player that would play all types of video files....divx, wma, avi, as well as mp3 and standard dvd & dvd-r/rw. This unit plays almost any type of video file you can throw at it. And for the measly cost of $38.50, with progressive scan as well.....it's just a phenomenal purchase. I'm considering buying 2 more for the living room and for my son's room. Also; the Phillips quality is a plus as well as the small footprint of the player. It takes such a small space, but delivers a dynamite punch. I'm extremely happy with it. Could be the best $38.50 I've ever spent. :)"

What's great about it: not expensive, good pic quality
What's not so great: clumsy in opening the slot
"Bought it several months ago in order to play some movies. The picture quality is very nice and the player is versatile in playing DVDs with different area code. Considering its low price, it is good buy.
However, it is a little clumsy in opening the slot for some time."

What's great about it: Inexpensive, sleek and compact, attractive
What's not so great: A little slow
"This is a perfectly fine DVD player. I would have zero complaints except that my first one ended up having problems, so I had to send it back to Phillips for a replacement. They were very helpful, however, so it wasn't too much of a hassle. Other than that, it looks very nice and works perfectly fine. For the price, I think it is definitely worth it."

What's great about it: Plays Normal DVDS
What's not so great: Does Not Play all formats listed on box
"I bought this DVD player to have in a spare bedroom and just wanted a fairly inexpensive one. After reading the box, it sounded like a good deal since it played all formats of the discs. I have quite a few of DVD+R yet despite being listed on the box as being able to play them, I got an error. It did play regular DVDs just fine. Quite dissapointed in the product after thinking it would work great."

What's great about it: slim, light weight,name brand, inxpensive
What's not so great: no clock, no FF, no rev
"If you want a very basic inexpensive name brand dvd player this is the one for you. It is so basic there isn't even a clock on it. I have become very accoustomed to looking at the clock on my electronics over the years. The box is very deceiving it shows a clock on the player in the picture of the player. It also only has chapter fwd and rev. No slow motion or fast fwd/rev. I get distracted and interrupted occationally while watching a dvd, and now I have to watch the whole chapter to see what I missed. I would recommend this player, with those limitations."

"I bought this because my computer wouldn't run a learning DVD I got. Naturally I didn't want to spend any more money than I had to. This has turned out to be a great buy, does exactly what I needed. Now I guess I'll have to pick up some movies to watch. Spending any more money than this cost would have been a waste for me.
Go buy 2, one for you and one for a gift!"

What's great about it: Video component jack, DivX playback, Price, Supports PAL format
What's not so great: No automatic play
"This player was bought to replace one that my children destroyed. Naturally, I didn't want to spend a lot of money the second time around. For the price (less than $50.00, WOW!) it's the best player. It does everything I need it to plus has a few extra features that came as a bonus for me like the video component jack which allows for a higher quality picture and the DivX playback. It also supports the PAL format, which comes in handy as I have relatives in Europe and now they can send me copies of children shows (my children are learning their father's native language)and even sports games such as rugby and soccer etc. I love the streamline look of this player. It's smaller and lighter than our old one yet it has more features. Even the remote is smaller and more efficient. I am perfectly happy with this player."

"I would recommend this to anyone using DivX or even just trying to find a good DVD Player. I haven't had a problem with mine once yet, and I use it a whole lot. The DivX play back works great and all my regular dvd's play back perfectly. This DVD player is great for anyone wanting a DVD player or a DivX player and only have a small budget. Great price for a good dvd player."

"I have only used this to play DVDs, so I cannot comment much on the DivX or JPEG playback and such. As a DVD player it works well. It easily hooks up to my surround system and sounds great. Hooked up with component cables to my High Def TV, it handles the wide screen well. It has the option to auto-scale if you are on a wide screen and have a wide screen DVD, though sometimes it misses.
Start up is a little slow, and the device has to be on to eject a DVD, so if I need to grab the DVD to drop it in the mail, do have to wait for the device to load, eject, then turn it back off.
Overall, it was a good deal"

"I purchased this DVD player two weeks ago from Best Buy and I am very much satisfied with it. I bought this player because it plays all formats. I had couple of DVDs and VCDs from my country which I could not use with other DVD because of the different regional code. But this
one plays all. I even tried WMA, DivX and few other formats. It played all. I am happy with this product for the price I paid."

"I bought this DVD player a week ago and found it very practical and affordable. It reads all my CDs and DVDs, I can watch my WMA and MP3 files, NICE Quality! The only weak side of it is the quality of the JPEG images, they are not very clear. Overall, I am very glad I chose this player!"

"I very much enjoy my dvd player it plays anything I put in it and is very simple to operate. Its slim design allows it to fit in my crowded entertainment center and it is small and lightweight so it can be carried easily which makes it great for reorginization which I do often."

"Good picture quality with some features adjustable via system menu.
Good sound quality with many more features adjustable via system menu.
Silver finish with frosted-glass-look front panel combined with extremely low profile is a look that I like, but that's personal preference.
The options for component, composite, and S-video output make this suitable for any television. No HDMI output, but who expected one at this price?!
Has played every DVD I've put in it...I don't have a DivX disk, so I cant attest to its abilities there, but it's supposed to play them.
Two simple improvements for Phillips to make is to put a tray control (open/close) button on the remote and speed up the fast-forward beyond 8x."

"I need to re-word my earlier review. This model does play my DVD+/-R. But some brands do not work. It will either pause and show artifacts or will not read at all. It happened on my cheaper brands of DVD R. All my name brands works fine."
