What's great about it: Cost,size,quality
What's not so great: Records in some funky video format/still shots
Very nice Hdd camcorder for the price. For video editor thought you will have to download some software to convert it into a usable format such as avi or mpeg2.. (its a jvc thing)But overall a very nice pick-up.

What's great about it: great quaility easy to use holds like 10 hours 45 min
What's not so great: battery doesnt last long weird format
wen i got this camera i was like this is the best camcorder ever great quallity everything is amazing i use this for filming my skating and puting it on my website or youtube.. then when i got back from my first day out with it i said it was so great then i loaded it to the computer and i couldnt get it to my movie maker on my computer cause i thought i had to use there editing system wich sucks and i was about to return it but then.. i just downloaded a video file converter and got it to windows movie maker.... now its the best cam.. i hiley recommend this to anyone.. i do sujest to get another battery tho

What's great about it: lots of space
What's not so great: for the price i dont think its worth it at all.
I really thought for the price of this camera the picture would of been allot better. I have a wide screen so I'm not sure if that does anything but it shouldn't because it video tapes in wide screen. I really do not like the fact that I cannot just put the video on Microsoft movie maker i have to go threw a whole bunch of things with some power director express that is only a demo and I have to purchase something else to get all of the transitions and many other features that I already have on movie maker. I'm sure for allot of you this camera is great but I like making promotional motocross music videos with allot of splitting and transitions and I usually only get about an hour of footage a day at the most. They are music videos so I only use 3 minutes of that footage anyway and the rest sits on my computer. Since it is on my computer I just delete it off of my camera because I do not need it. I had a panasonic mini dv camera and it worked fine with me we strapped it on to someones fender and it fell off 50 feet in the air and rolled and what not the camera worked for another 2 months and I dont know what hapend after that it just stoped working.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: Small, works with vista, no tapes or dvds needed
What's not so great: Battery life powers about 1.5 hour record time
I love this small easy to use camera. I was so happy that it worked with Vista. It only took a minute to upload to the computer, after the software was installed. This camera is so light and is great because you don't need to worry about tapes or dvds.

What's great about it: Small and easy to use
What's not so great: Time/Date stamping on video does not download to PC.
I bought this camera for surveylance. After I tried it out, i found out that the time/date stamping does not download to a PC with the video. You can only get this feature by buying the prorietary "Share Station" DVD recorder ($200). I spent half an hour on the phone with a JVC Technician to find out why. He said thats the way we make'em (what??). This seems like a no-brainer to me.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

What's great about it: features for the price, auto and manual modes, size,
What's not so great: not the best quality of DVD depending on what is filmed, Stills are not the best but usable
product is pretty easy to use. people are complaining about not being able to copy to their PC. I don't use the software since the PC sees the camera as a storage device I just to a file copy and get everything. it is easy. The night filming is good under certain conditions but mostly don't try it. It is not really worth it. The software that comes with it is good for basic DVD creation. If you want option you will need some other software though.
Overall it is a good product. You definitely need a second battery though.

What's great about it: Good video, sound, easy to use, real one hand op
What's not so great: Bad still image and that's expected
1) Good video: it's much better than my old miniDV from SONY and it's DVD quality. The color is right at both day light and night time.
2) The sound is Dolby sound and good quality.
3) Easy to use: I only use one hand to shot movie as well as switch to take snapshot.
4) Easy upload movie and photoes to PC: after you connect your JVC to your PC, the JVC Hard drive will show up as a HDD, you can just copy the clips to your pc.
5) Get a video converter and convert the MOD to any format you want. I use it to make DVD. Did use the included software package as people complaint a lot about it. Will give it a try today.

Just debating the prior review. Although the specs on Best Buy say it doesn't work with Vista, jvc's website shows a video on how it DOES work with vista.

What's great about it: quality of video.
What's not so great: I bought a Everio Share Station (burner) with it and cannot download to PC!
The quality of video is very good. Camera is ideal size as it fits in the palm of your hand. The onboard build in software leaves much to be desired as it is not too consumer friendly. After hours of reading the manual, experimenting on my own and many calls to tech support, I'm still unable to download videos to my PC! This I am very disappointed with! There has to be a way as I have seen reviews here that say it is easy to do. If someone out there knows how to download from the camera to the PC, please let me know. I would very much appreciate it. Thanx.

What's great about it: size, lightweight and compact

It's been a couple weeks now, so far it's been great. I love the size of this camcorder, fits right in the palm of my hand. Better to operate in manual mode, gives you the option to adjust screen settings etc.
pros: lightweight and compact, again just love the size not to big not to small. Easy transfer of videos and pics.
cons: If you have an event to attend to, make sure you have a spare battery. Less than 2 hours.
The nightvision which is called the "night alive" is useless. You can only use it for still video capture. At nights i just use regular mode and adjust the shutter speeds, much better than night alive.
Overall I like this camcorder, very happy!

What's great about it: Everything, except night vision, and battery

My parents got this for my family beofre christmas last year, and after a year of use, this puppy is still running better than ever! Video and sound quality are excellent, and the fact that all the clips you take are stored on the camcords hard drive is even better. You can view, modify and delete clips rather than having to use disks or tapes. The only problems I have with the camera are night vision, and battery life. I got an extra battery that says it lasts for 5 hours. In reality, it lasts about two, if it's 70 degrees out, sunny, low humidity, and no wind. I like to sometimes take shots in the dark. The light that is built into the camera is absolutely pathetic. The camera will not pick up the light unless it is about two inches away from an object. The night vision mode is horrible. It's slow, annoying, and it ALSO doesn't pick up light unless the object is biting your nose! Overall, excellent product with two cons that aren't that big of cons.

What's great about it: Good quality, price, easy to use

I have used for 4 month for holidays and vacation. Very good zoom (I filmed shuttle lift off from 5-7 miles away), a night video not bad. Buy extra battery. Software is not friendly user, too many switching between applications. You have to have very good computer to use this software. I found better solution to use Pinnacle Studio Version 11. It works perfect to make a DVD. It easy deletes unwanted files, right from your camera hard disk. Don't afraid the format problem, like many people has complained about it; use Pinnacle Studio Version 11 will solve all your problems. This camera is not for professional users, you have to spend at least $1000 to get professional video. But ask your self how many times will you use it?
I recommended it for all users whom wanted to have good memories about vacation, weddings or birthday parties. Good luck with shopping.

What's great about it: lightweight, easy to use...
This camera is great! It's very light weight and easy to use. I'm still in the phase of seeing if you can edit a clip on the camera itself before downloading it onto a cpu. Otherwise, the camera is awesome. My husband loves it.

What's great about it: Light wieght, very compact and easy to use.
What's not so great: Video formate style is not very compateable and software is hard to use.
Over all the JVC Digital Camcorder with 30GB Hard Drive and Digital Still Mode is a good buy. It handles and records very well. It's lightweight and very compact which makes it easy to carry any where. The zoom wors great for its compact size.
The most disappointing part of the package is not the hardware but the software. The formate that the camcorder stores video too is not the most accessable by some programs. I have only been able to download video and pics from the camera using the software which means if I'm over at friends house and they would like to download it, we couldn't download it to their computer but we could play it on their TV and record it onto a VHS or DVD. The software that you have to use doesn't allow you do determine a destination when downloading (backing up) vdeio or pictures. You can later move videos to anty where you want, but it's a pain.
Even though it looks like i ahve more on the negative side, I really do like JVC Digital Camcorder.
I would recommend this to a friend!

We had used sony camcorders in the past and they took good videos but to get the videos off we impossible. With this camera having the hard drive is great. It is so easy to burn the videos to a dvd and watch them on you tv. One thing I wish were better would to have a better still photo so I would not have to take my regular digital camera places. Overall a great camera.

What's great about it: Excellent picture, easy to use, still shots & has a remote for remote control, choice of recording screen size
What's not so great: Image stabilization is not that good
I noticed when I zoom in on something that the image stabilization does not work well. When I am not zoomed out, It works very well. I bought this to be mounted inside a race car for 1/4 drag racing. When I am video taping other racers going down the track is when I noticed that the image stabilization did not work well. I did buy a tri pod to correct this problem. If you have the slightest movement - It will be a lot on the video.
